I hope nobody dissolves in the rain over the BH weekend... :)

Scout19075 · 24/05/2014 12:31

The new American style Diner in town is having an identity crisis. MrScout asked if I felt "at home" but it just made me uncomfortable Hmm.

Scout19075 · 25/05/2014 05:46

Give me strength not to go nuts on SB. I'm soooo tired....

CMOTDibbler · 25/05/2014 08:06

Oh dear, not a good sleep night Scout?

I have visiting small girl, and we hid from the rain in a v nice (and otherwise pretty empty) museum all day yesterday. Though not until I had been soaked to the skin a) taking the dog for a run and b) collecting my bike from Scary Bike Shop where it was being repaired. And standing in said bike shop for half an hour while they very helpfully decide to adjust it to make it more efficient for me and all these thin men with hugely expensive racing bikes wander in and look at broken woman with non racing bike getting all the attention!

Dog show this morning, then trail cycling this afternoon - weather is supposed to cheer up by mid morning

Scout19075 · 26/05/2014 21:35

It was a rough sleep night on Saturday night. Last night so much better!

CMOT, how is it having a small girl?

SB enjoyed his friend's birthday party yesterday and after a shortened sleep Saturday night slept like a rock last night (wahoo!).

Had a nice Bank Holiday Monday though SB had a run in with a bigger boy at the playground in the forest.

Off to PiLshire tomorrow for a couple of days to take advantage of grandparents who are willing to babysit (we don't ask them often but my PiL have always been more than happy/eager to help on the few occasions we've asked them to help). SB is excited to have a bus/train/tube/train adventure tomorrow and then to have "Nana and Grandpa alone" on Wednesday.

UniS · 27/05/2014 21:39

Cmot - if that is the scary bike shop I think it may be... the owner is not scarey at all their child has SN and may well need adaptive bits n bobs on any bike they ride. It does LOOK scary in there tho, with chuffing expensive bikes in Windows.

They are totally lovely tbh, and are organising a single brake lever solution for me, but with differential hydraulic pressure. And the change in setup has made things better already (10 miles off road on Sunday, 14 miles road on Monday).
Have discovered small problem as I go faster in that my fingers on bad hand start flapping around in the air flow Grin.

Small girl is lovely, and she and ds both being only children with no cousins of a similar age they love doing things like having a bath together, snuggling in bed for a story, and rifling the kitchen cupboards to concoct their own breakfast.

Ds and I have a few days off together this week. Alas, the weather is awful which is a PITA. Only 4 weeks till ds and I do our first triathlon now!

UniS · 27/05/2014 22:55

Do flappy fingers hurt? or just look odd?

I was riding my bike tonight - doing a cyclo cross womens only training thing. Its definitely improving my confidence off road on technical stuff. Boy and MrUni when mountain biking yesterday as MrUni has bought himself an MTB. BOy had a whale of a time, I was at work, getting very dusty taking a festival electrical network to bits.

VERY busy next few days with work then off to my parents. if I can;t get the mobile site working again on my phone I'll see you all on the flip side.

CMOTDibbler · 27/05/2014 22:59

They hurt Sad.

Cyclo cross sounds great fun!

UniS · 27/05/2014 23:02

What have you tried to stop flappy fingers? I can ponder other ideas whilst at work if your after ideas? Does that hand do anything other than balance assist on the bike? Can't remember if you have gone for drop bars or straights?

CMOTDibbler · 28/05/2014 08:44

I've tried taping them (even worse), and finally found a wrist splint with finger support which I will try when it stops raining (I ride in a full arm splint and wrist splint). Hand, well, actually my wrist as the rotation of my arm doesn't let my hand go down, just rests on the bars - which are flat. There was a suggestion that I might cope on tribars, but that would mean trying to ride dhs new pride and joy road bike to see.

Scout19075 · 29/05/2014 20:52

I am convinced I have the world's weirdest four-year old (boy). Today he got a blanket out to play "wombs." As in "I need to make a womb so I can be the baby in the Mommy's womb."

Um... okay!

UniS · 30/05/2014 21:58

Yep. Werid. Not to worry he will eenachange as he grows up.His quirks will change too and chances are he will find a quirky friend or two.

Still not got mobile app working but using phone browser seems to work OK.

Been a very long day on not enough sleep. I'd cheerfully go to bed now but boy isn't asleep yet and we're sharing the spare room at grandparents...

Cmot- I can't. Work out how to paste a link on my phone. But try googling MTB pogies. Or fat bike pogies. There is a diy pogie thread on a fatbike forum. How to make a cuff/ glove that stays on the handle bar to protect the hands in sub zero with D's. Might something like that keep your fingers from flappyness?

OP posts:
CMOTDibbler · 31/05/2014 15:21

I'll have a look at those, thank you UniS!
Today we cycled 4.5 miles with ds to drop him at a party, went off and did 30 miles, collected ds, then cycled home. The party was kayaking, and ds has his long awaited (had to be 8) kayaking lesson at the swimming pool this evening, so ds should sleep well!

Scout, the other day ds and smallgirlvisitor were enacting her birthing multiple soft toys, so making a womb is not so weird to me

mistlethrush · 31/05/2014 19:44

THese look as though they might help CMot.

Back from a week of no wifi and no phone signal.... Bliss! Weather's not been bad either.

Scout19075 · 02/06/2014 09:59

I am grateful to be home, too, but I was just at PiLshire. Was meant to go Tuesday to Thursday/Friday but stayed until last night instead.

Scout19075 · 03/06/2014 13:15

I have a very silly question... Can you get all-in-one wet weather suits/gear in size 5+? Up until now we've been given wet weather gear (either as gifts or hand-me-downs) so I haven't had to look for any. Any recommendations for where to get some?

mistlethrush · 03/06/2014 13:21

I've bought from here in the past and had no complaints.

I think we moved away from all in ones to dungarees and coat - then trousers and coat. DS currently has a nice bright orange coat from Outdoors (from an outlet centre) and we've not got any waterproof trousers that fit him at the moment - but he's normally in shorts so doesn't get very wet anyway!

CMOTDibbler · 03/06/2014 13:53

Like MT, we went to dungarees and coat, but Little Trekkers have both

mistlethrush · 03/06/2014 13:55

I think we also got some here

Scout19075 · 03/06/2014 20:14

Thanks CMOT and MT! Yes, I think dungarees and a jacket would be better for what I'm wanting. We're going to go pond dipping and creek exploring so dungarees would be better so then he can just put them on over his shorts, dip and then take them off to go run in the playground without overheating (SB really doesn't do hot).

SB had his weekly swim class and run around the soft play after (while I babysat his BBF). One of his friends from swim class joined them today though when the boy's mother saw him try to rip SB's glasses from his face she practically frog-marched him out. Why on earth do these kids go for SB's glasses?!

Scout19075 · 04/06/2014 10:40

I think I'm going to have to sort out wet weather gear sooner rather than later!

mistlethrush · 04/06/2014 14:49

It does seem to have been excessively wet today.

Scout19075 · 04/06/2014 18:28

Anyone else really tired lately? Feeling like I can't catch up, no matter how hard I try....
