The Nordic Tearoom (Number 31)

We have moored the barge for the winter and have moved to a beautiful, cosy log cabin in deepest Scandinavia overlooking a frozen lake and surrounded by pine trees.

Mellors has lit the log fires and candles, it is snowing outside and there are comfortable seats for everyone and fleecy blankets to snuggle up in. For the more active tearoomers there are skis and sledges outside as well as a steaming hot tub for winding down after a busy day.

So pull up a chair. The kettle is on for Brew and there is always plenty of Wine depending on your mood and time zone. (Alternatively there is schnapps, smorgasbord and smoked fish).

Everybody is welcome ? share as much or as little as you like ? but no fisticuffs please!

Can't move old threads, but , there is "OCF Tea room 31a" open for business on "Off the beaten track "

face book like button free currently.

UniS · 15/12/2011 20:36

Xmas Grin
Scout19075 · 15/12/2011 23:15

I've wrapped Toddler's stocking/Santa presents and his presents from MrScout & I. I also made sure there were batteries in any toys requiring them for immediate gratification on the day. I had hoped to wrap his presents from the CampDirectors (aka: Grandmom and Grandad Scout) but it's late and I had a wedding gift to make & wrap as well. Oh well, at least there's still a week until Christmas!

I probably won't be online tomorrow so JM I'd like to wish you good luck for tomorrow. I'll be thinking of you and hoping things go well.

How is everyone else?

Thumbinnapuddingwitch · 16/12/2011 00:03

PMSL at JM's finger-dyslexia! Xmas Grin

AS mentioned in the other place, I have been on threads in OTBT and it is a royal PITA when they go "poff" overnight after 30 days - we may lose more of the less-regular posters if we divert to OTBT all the time.

This may be a less popular/more confusing suggestion - but how about if we keep the general tearoom open in the One-child topic, have a tacit pact that none of us will click on the Like button at the top, and use OTBT for any more sensitive stuff?

Thing is, nothing has really changed - we could always have linked to this thread on FB if we wanted to, by C&P the address into FB - the only difference is that it's now easier to do it by just clicking once.

Anyway - we'll see what works and where most people go and I'll no doubt follow the crowd. Xmas Smile

Jacksmania · 16/12/2011 01:26

Thumb, you make a lot of sense. I hadn't thought about how inconvenient it would be for anyone to find us when the 30 days are suddenly up. I just had a --usual for JM knee-jerk reaction to that like button. Grrr. There is a thread running about it by CarolCervix in Site Stuff and it was up to nearly 500 posts with tempers running high - maybe MNHQ will see sense and pull that stupid button.

CMOTdibbler · 16/12/2011 09:06

Thinking of you today JM. Lots of love, and wishes for a happy knee. BTW, for a split thumb, the steroid tape I've been prescribed for my keloid says it is ideal for splits and fissures, so might be worth a punt - its called Haelen tape

Anyone for a lemsip ? I am still feeling grotty, but after sleeping for most of yesterday rather more human. DS has finished school for Christmas, and is currently helping the cleaner mop the floor

Thumbinnapuddingwitch · 16/12/2011 12:00

Yes indeed - good luck for today's knee adventure, JM - hope it all goes textbook perfectly and that nothing too serious needs to be done. Xmas Smile

I have antibiotics. Finally caved and went to the doc yesterday to get some. Got some stuff for thrush as well as it's an almost inevitable consequence these days. Xmas Sad. Never used to get thrush - but since coming to Australia, after the antibiotics I had for one chest infection in the first year, I got it - and didn't realise Xmas Blush - so when I finally plucked up courage to ask the doc about my fragile feeling bits, she looked and said "thrush" and I'd had it quite a while by then so it comes back very easily now.

Went to watch MIL in her line dancing display this evening. She's been trying to get me to go along to line dancing with her and I've been resisting because to me it's an old lady's game I don't fancy it; and tonight I felt vindicated because there didn't appear to be a single person under 60 in her group! I'm going to start adult tap classes with miniThumb's teacher next year instead Xmas Smile - far more my thing! MiniThumb didn't want to just watch MIL tonight though, he wanted to join in! so I asked her if she'd take him with her for the next dance she did, and he looked very cute trying to follow all the steps! He got a bit bored of the sedateness of it all and started a bit of freestyling at one point, but he was pretty good on the whole.

beanandspud · 16/12/2011 22:54

Just back and not sure what's happening in the Tearoom...

I don't do Facebook and haven't read the gazillion threads about MN and FB.

Are we still here?

Xmas Confused

Thumbinnapuddingwitch · 16/12/2011 23:01

I am still here. I haven't gone to the OTBT tearoom - I probably should have a look though.

beanandspud · 16/12/2011 23:07

Are you feeling better? I laughed at your account of MIL's line-dancing!

Wine?

OP posts:
ComeIntoTheFestiveGardenMaud · 16/12/2011 23:10

I think we're still here unless we want to be ultra hush-hush and be other there, if you see what I mean.

The gist of the threads is that if you 'like' a thread here, it will be posted to your FB wall, which (as someone else pointed out) is tantamount to saying to your FB friends (who are presumably people you actually know in real life) "I am on this thread - can you guess my MN name and then track down all my other posts to see what disobliging things I might have said about you and other people we know". To which, as Thumb says, the obvious solution is never to like a thread.

What astounds me about this fuss (and all the others like it) is that people seem surprised that MN Towers run MN as a business and take decisions according to what they think will work for the business, even when MNers say they don't much care for it.

Any word from JM and her knee (so to speak)?

Thumbinnapuddingwitch · 16/12/2011 23:10

Bit early in the morning for me bean Xmas Wink but thanks - I'll have a Brew instead - it's still on the chilly side over here (although not as cold as you lot, obviously! Xmas Grin)

Thumbinnapuddingwitch · 16/12/2011 23:12

Not after-the-event, Maud, not yet. I know she was a bit wibbly about it just before but haven't seen a post from her since - but then it has only just happened, I believe! Or about an hour or so ago, anyway.

beanandspud · 16/12/2011 23:16

Hello Maud! I have just been down in your neck of the woods for 3 nights (I think). It was lovely but so nice to be home with the boys tonight!

I think I'm possible safe then. I sometimes feel like the only person in the world without a FB account.

OP posts:
ComeIntoTheFestiveGardenMaud · 16/12/2011 23:20

I left FB for some time but have now rejoined. I don't post photos to it - for me, it's a glorified email. I'm always a bit Hmm at people who use it as a stream of consciousness and post 99 times a day, but then, I'm equally Hmm about Twitter.

::old fogey emoticon::

What brought you to Maudsville, Bean?

Thumbinnapuddingwitch · 16/12/2011 23:25

Sorry Bean - forgot to reply to your lovely caring question about my health - yes, the ABs seem to be doing their job in that the goo is changing (that's all you're getting otherwise it's TMI) - my voice is nearly back, hope it's ok for this evening when I have to sing in the local community choir for our Carols and Fireworks Spectacular - I only volunteered on Thursday on the understanding that I might have some kind of voice working today!

Just want to try something: :O

beanandspud · 16/12/2011 23:26

It was work, Maud. But now finished until the New Year - hurrah!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think that's my problem with FB - I can't be bothered with reading 'tosh' about "I went to the shops...I cut my toenails...I had pasta for tea..."

::equally old fogey emoticon:: Grin

OP posts:
Thumbinnapuddingwitch · 16/12/2011 23:27

Nope. Ah well - just wondering how Maud got the random Grin in her post - doesn't work for me! unless...

::Ol

Nope. No idea! Xmas Confused

I always forget which one to do and which one to avoid for annoying and inappropriate Shock intrusion!
