Welcome aboard.

The first rule of the tea room is - No fisticuffs.
The second rule is - Put the kettle on and lets have a Brew or open a bottle of Wine if its that time of day. Pull a sofa and relax. Parents of one, more (or less) children are welcome to hop on board and chat about anything and nothing. Introduce yourself if new and if you name change give us clue please.

Toddler's girlfriend (Wink) gave him a birthday present today. Grin A total surprise and so sweet! (My friend wasn't at swimming last week so she was later than she wanted to be with it.) I am touched.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 08/11/2011 20:16

Aw, bless!

Scout19075 · 08/11/2011 20:21

We saw them as we were going into the leisure center before "lessons" and both of the kids just beamed when they saw each other. I know they're too young for friends in the dictionary sense but I really do see them as friends. She tries to feed Toddler, today she was holding his hand, he offers her snacks, they splash each other (though don't seem to splash other kids). So sweet!

I'm sappy, I know.

My tummy hurts. (Envy Tea Room Special)

LittleDeerandMe · 08/11/2011 20:22

Hey!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 08/11/2011 20:24

That sounds really cute!

::Equally sappy::

Donki · 08/11/2011 21:55

I have here some Tea Room Cold remedy. Guaranteed to get rid of coughs and sniffles...

I only wish it were as effective in real life (blows nose for 15th time in the last 5 minutes)

[wannabe languages geek emoticon]

I'm sorry I'm not around much, I do think of you all and lurk from time to time, but I am finding life rather busy at the moment.

I went on an excellent course at the National Science Learning Centre last week. Lots of excellent ideas and there is a follow up installment in March too, which I am looking forwards to despite the rather daunting amount of development work I am supposed to do before then...

I'm glad we met you and mc - it is nice to put names to faces. It makes everyone a bit more "real"

And when Ofsted come calling, I am sure that I will end up taking refuge in the priest hole.

CMOTdibbler · 08/11/2011 22:05

Mistle, I was wondering if you'd be wandering down the country at Christmas ? I could intercept you somewhere !

My new nerve pain medication doesn't seem to be doing a huge amount for the pain, but has made me feel a lot better in myself somehow, which is fabulous

Wine anyone ?

UniS · 08/11/2011 22:26

CMOT- I will be in your bit of teh world early december.... Have a meal at Jimmy Pickles to look forward to.

Donki- How nice to see you, sorry about the dusty hay, it may have been down wind of teh NMBs bonfire the other night. Hope teh fresh stuff is tastier. Mellors is coming over to give you an ear rub pronto. I'd offer a marzipan carrot, but its a tad dangerous with NMBS about.

Scout - tiddler is def too small for "girlfriends" but nice he has a friend and they can be cute together. Boy and his mate were getting rather excited before dance class today and giving each other big hugs. I'm soo glad they still do that even after a year of school.

beanandspud · 08/11/2011 23:19

Good to see you back, I wish I could have joined you at the weekend.

Small Bean has a few 'girlfriends' and it is very, very cute. Mostly they are the girls that help him with his shoes etc. (and, of course, the one girl at nursery who likes trains!!!)

Hope all are well. I haven't been here much - am away for much of this week and internet connection is sporadic!

Maud - how are you today?

Thumbwitch · 09/11/2011 07:10

Hey Deer! how are you going?

Donki - lovely to see you again, no wonder your hay pile had gone dusty!

miniThumb has a girlfriend or two at playgroup - they almost fight over him but not quite (yet)

Farkin' hot here now - thunder season! So it's all hot and muggy and disgusting during the day, then cools down in the evening with the thunder and small amount of rain. It's not enough rain to save the garden from nearly dying in the heat during the next day though! Being at the top of a hill is a bit annoying from that point of view, all the water just drains away. :( But shouldn't complain - at least we're not at risk of flash floods here.

Maud - presumably you have antibiotics from the doc? If you're not already on erythromycin, you probably need to be (if you can). I used to suffer from a filthy thing called Moraxella catarrhalis, which gave me chesty coughs for weeks until I took the Big Gun antibiotics. It's mostly resistant to any form of penicillin, so if you have that and that's what you're taking, you need to get better ABs.

mistlethrush · 09/11/2011 09:15

Bean - next time... ! We didn't stray as far south as we were intending due to the inclement weather and the fact that Donki and I didn't manage to make contact properly until the morning, but would be nice to have a slightly larger get-together. I know Donki and small Donki are keen to try the previously suggested location - and I know Mc likes it there....

CMot - we shall, indeed, be travelling up and down the country like a somewhat erratic yoyo at Christmas, weather allowing, so you never know, we might manage something. When I've worked out what we're intending to do I will let you know and we and see if we think anything might work at any stage Grin

Thumb - winter has suddenly arrived here - although the leaves are still on some of the trees - its damp, drizzly, cold and quite often frosty in the morning - but not in that nice frosty-sunny day type frost - the sort that creaps up from the soles of your boots and means you can't get warm.

CMOTdibbler · 09/11/2011 11:09

UniS, would be fab to meet up while you are here. Maybe in the park so Tiddler and Boy could bike in the skate park. Jimmy Pickles is def something to look forward to.

Mistle - we'll be pretty much around all the time, so give us a call if you need a stopover Grin

Jacksmania · 09/11/2011 14:22

Morning all. I have a filthy rotten cold and even though it's 6 am and JB is sleeping cuddled in beside me, I can't sleep anymore.
Remember the unexpected chill and rain in Southern California that I was bitching talking about? Well, it resurrected DH's cold that he'd slowly been getting rid of, and then either he passed it on to me it I caught my own Angry. I feel like crap.

CMOT, is your nerve pain medication gabapentin or pregabalin? Both of those help increase the amount of GABA (gamma-amino-butyric-acid) in the brain, which is a precursor for serotonin, dopamine and 5-HT. All of which are your feel-good neurotransmitters. Unfortunately neither pregabalin nor gabapentin are amazingly effective for nerve pain :(

Jacksmania · 09/11/2011 14:23

Maud, no better? :( Bugger. I second Thumb, time for heavy duty antibiotics.

How's everyone else?

amberlight · 09/11/2011 14:25

Alright thanks

Brew on for those in desperate need of something for life/colds/coughs/annoying relatives/behaviour of offspring/anything else

CMOTdibbler · 09/11/2011 14:43

Gah on the cold front JM. And thank you for explaining why I feel cheerier but no less pained. Alas there doesn't seem to be a lot of options for CRPS, although I find giving it a Good Talking To helps.
I now have 45' of active rotation on my forearm - I am very proud of this Hmm

I was thinking of you Amber, the other day I was visiting a customer where the exits involved pushing a wall button, then pushing on the door to exit. Which would be OK, but timing and placement meant you needed to use one arm to push the button, and have the other outstretched to push the door instantly otherwise it timed out. Not being able to do this, I had to stand on one leg and push the door with one leg. Not very accessible really.

amberlight · 09/11/2011 15:57

45 degrees is good!!!!

Yup re doors. Many claim to be accessible but no disabled person I know can operate them, Grin

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 09/11/2011 18:11

::cough, wheeze, cough::

I have been told that my infection is viral and therefore ABs won't work. Shiould I ever manage to crack my GP's inpenetrable defences and get an appointment, I might try for a second opinion on that!

Cmot - That's long been my concern about the heavy plate-glass doors that every building I've ever worked in has had. A bit of thought (but not always very much thought) generally goes into how someone using a wheelchair would get into the building, but none at all into how people with other sorts of impairment might manage.

CMOTdibbler · 09/11/2011 18:47

Oh dear Maud. Have you tried some Sudafed ? Since ds was prescribed it for his eternal chestiness we've all used it, and it does help thin the mucus and let you get rid of it. But you can get bacterial chest infection secondary to a viral overall infection, so worth trying to get a gp appointment.

I've been rapidly learning Ambers point about accessibility being seen only as a wheelchair access issue (and I think only about a wheelchair user being able to get into the building in many cases), and not thinking about a range of impairments.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 09/11/2011 19:55

Quite! In the long-gone days when I was involved professionally in this field it was often pointed out that one of the great fallacies is that accessibility = installing a ramp and (depressingly) things seem hardly to have moved on since then. The problem seems worst in secure buildings which don't have doors which automatically whoosh open and where (like yours) one has to simultaneously press buttons and shove.

I'll add Sudafed to my shopping list.

::Looks at her vast range of over the counter medicines and considers applying for job as cough medicine sommelier::

amberlight · 09/11/2011 20:16

My cough lasted four weeks. This isn't cheering you up, is it? Blush

Engrossed in watching Masterchef...

Jacksmania · 09/11/2011 20:51

Is it wine o'clock yet?

I think in future I will be sticking to the safety of this thread and my other regular ones. Bloody hell. The rest of MN has claws and teeth. The thread I'm talking about has been pulled since, but I'm still a bit shaken by the unusual experience of having been called a troll. :(
I know I know, words on a screen, blah blah, but I don't know how I'll ever feel the same again about some posters.

Scout19075 · 09/11/2011 21:02

Toddler's had a cough for going on two weeks -- went to the GP today but she said his chest is clear and it will clear itself. Okay, that's fine, but she was very dismissive (a rare thing when I take TS to the doctor or nurse so was a bit Hmm).

Oh dear JM. Was it a thread you started?
