Tea Room 17 - The Tropical Beach Hut

1000 replies

amberlight · 23/07/2010 14:41

Welcome to the 17th version of the Tea Room. We find ourselves on a tropical beach, with the tea room now in a beach hut on stilts, the waves lapping on the golden sands beneath. Palm trees surround us. Our virtual gardener/beach surfing dude/handyman, Mellors, is here to tend to your every need. He looks like the person of your dreams (male, female or otherwise ). There are of course holidaying Bishops and other leaders of faith, the Camels, the Bison, various guinea pigs, the tea room horses, a life-size cut out of George Clooney, the NMBs (please don't ask me to explain how Mohawk Babies joined us, and a wide variety of other virtual followers. We chat, we relax, we share how life is. All in need of friendship are most welcome. The kettle is on...and the distressed chintz sofa has of course made the journey over. Enjoy.

Thumb - You are mentioned five times so far on this thread where people are listing their fave MNers!!! Wow, you are a popular lady!

JBsmama · 12/08/2010 04:59

I can't imagine I'd be anyone's favourite. I'm mostly anonymous and too bitchy. :(
Oh and I namechange too much.

Blush - thanks A&O! I then just had to go and look. It's nice that people do remember when you've helped them out (a couple of them, including the OP, are regular chatmates of mine) - just gives you a nice little warm glow inside!

You're all my favourites anyway - and my other chatmates.Grin

Catita - congratulations! Have you washed the hand yet? Wink

Scout19075 · 12/08/2010 10:19

Thanks for the tea, amber. Nice and warm on this cold and wet day.

(I miss BabyScout even though I feel rough and am very busy getting ready for camp.)

Scout19075 · 12/08/2010 15:43

(oooohhhh, how squishy and lovey was BabyScout when I picked him up today?!)

BabyScout's big boy carseat came today -- just in time for camp and holiday. YAY!

HubbyScout working from home today because he has a meeting at his old employer (work he does means he can use contacts at old job for things with new job and both jobs benefit) and a doctor's appointment. Means he'll be home before BabyScout's bedtime which means help. YAY!

mistlethrush · 12/08/2010 15:49

Squishy and babies is not necessarily a term that I would agree on being lovely Scout - but if you meant soft and cuddly, I'd understand! Makes me think of ds's christening - when, seated in the front row, mistlechick managed to fill his nappy - very audibly - just as the vicar was praying for the peace of teh world... the vicar had to take a second to regain his composure before continuing Grin - we made it through communion and then I sent dh out with mistlechick, rugby style, under one arm (in long flowing antique family christening gown) and the changing bag over the other shoulder Grin

Scout19075 · 12/08/2010 16:01

Squishy as in his kept squishing me tightly around the neck in hugs and cuddles. So soft and cuddly, yes. Not in the stinky bum sort of way. Grin at vision of baby being carried rugby ball style in Christianing gown. BabyScout managed to wait until we were home to do that and then leaked all over his special Baptism onsie (vest). Nice.

JBsmama · 12/08/2010 20:12

Love the term squishy (not in the bum way) because it's so descriptive, but then don't you get all startled sometimes when you hug your baba and suddenly he (or she) has gotten all strong and muscly instead of plump, and, well, squishy? :o

(Had a chortle at your vicar nearly losing his composure, MT :o)

UniS · 12/08/2010 21:14

ummmm, tea. proper job, thank you amber.

one morning of workmen attacking the house, one afternoon of DH and I clearing up teh mess workmen had left and we now have cavity wall insulation and LOTS of loft insulation. This house certainly SHOULD be warmish come winter. Just need to get teh oil tank changed before teh frost start and then I hope we can stop spending money hand over fist on the place.

Catitainahatita · 12/08/2010 22:10

Cheers for the cuppa, Amber. Congratulations to Thumb for her muchlovedness status. It's nice to feel loved, eh? That's one of the things the TR helps me with, really. I've not got many friends here(well none actually)and it gets a bit lonely after awhile. DH is great, but still you need to chat to lots of different people.

JM/4M/JBMama you are one of my favourite MNetters.... if only because you send me biscuits every now and then.

And yes I washed my hand straightaway. The gov is no favourite of mine. He belongs to the old ruling party (PRI) which governed Mexico with what was described as "a perfect dictatorship" for nigh on 80 years. Here in our state that monopoloy on power and its consequent dampeners on social and press freedom to mention only a few things is still alive and kicking.

Just participing in a book that the government were funding makes me feel like I'm selling out, quite frankly. But there is nothing like living in the day to day realities of things to make you a pragmatist.

Hope you are feeliong better Scout. Gatita is also adorably cuddly and squishy. Not quite so much the toddling and mayhem inducing Kittenito though.

Scout19075 · 12/08/2010 22:10

Any medically types around? Have a question....

Have been sick today. Proper sick. Sick like I've never been before. Came out of no where. Bless BabyScout, he was such a good boy and HubbyScout missed his appointment to come home and take care of us. Tried soup and roll earlier but didn't do me any favors. Just got down about a third of a banana. Need to take my meds with food but not sure how much more I can get down without being sick (though it's been a few hours). Is a third of a banana enough food to try to get the pills down?

UniS · 12/08/2010 22:31

IIRC even a plain biscuit is enough for a take with food tablet. So half a banana should be fine.

www.walgreens.com/marketing/library/ask/aap/drugsinformation/drugsinfodirections_takewithfood.jsp
seems to concur with my memory

Give NHS direct a call if you want to check it out for your particular meds.

Scout19075 · 12/08/2010 22:43

Thanks UniS. Have just managed a bit of soup, too, so will brave my tablets. HubbyScout has brought me loads of things -- four types of soup, rolls (my request), rich tea biscuits, bananas, water, juice.

I'd rather have headaches than this.

HubbyScout asked what my plan was if I got sick like this at camp. "Ummm, call you" was my response and he laughed. He'll be there, too, just off out and about taking pictures of all of the activities.

UniS · 12/08/2010 22:50

Look after yourself scout. fingers crossed "dr busy" will help out at camp and you won;t feel so bad coz you'll have mind on other nicer things. In the theatre industry we call that phenomenon " dr Footlights", I've seen actors leave stage, throw up in bucket and then make it back on stage for their next line with the audience none the wiser.

Scout19075 · 12/08/2010 23:01

That's usually me if I feel poorly but I go out to do errands (even if I don't have any) or for a walk. That's why, even with my headache yesterday I took BabyScout out for lunch with my friend and to messy play -- staying out kept me focused on other things. Had been very busy today but the lightheadnesses came out of nowhere and I couldn't distract from it. Not sure how I managed to get BS downstairs but know it was while I was still lightheaded but before I got dizzy. I knew his food and water and milk were downstairs, as were the phones (mobile and landline) so that's where I thought I should be.

DH working from home tomorrow so will get BS to his last day at nursery and take care of me if needed.

Going back to sleep now (haven't left bed since DH got home except to go to the loo).

thumbwitch · 12/08/2010 23:58

Scout, that's dreadful - is it a side-effect of the meds? It might be a good idea to phone your doc in the morning to ask them about it.

Dry biscuit or half a banana fine as UniS says. Try to minimise the amount of fat you take in if it persists - it's quite hard to digest (the stomach does almost nothing with it, it doesn't really start digesting until the small intestine is reached).

Hope you feel better in the morning.

JBsmama · 13/08/2010 00:33

Gah!! Big anti-nausea hugs for Scout.

mistlethrush · 13/08/2010 09:25

Yes - hugs to Scout... You may find if you speak to the Dr about it that there's something that they can give you for it - but as its not one of the most common side-effects they've not done so... And there are various options on this - and if you keep on pestering them if it continues, you can try something else. Hope you're feelign better today.

Had an awful morning with mistlechick - I think he's very tired after 3 wks sports camp - this is the last day - he's got a bit of a sniffle and anything that could go badly did....

Scout19075 · 13/08/2010 10:45

Thank you for all of the advice and support. Was a very strange and rough ride last night. Feeling a lot better today -- not 100% but any stretch of the imagination but way better than yesterday evening/last night. The lightheadedness/nausea/vomitting are all listed under "common side effects" for the once-a-week medicine so am convinced that's what it is/was. Eek!

Am due to have an appointment in two weeks, but am on holiday then so have to call to reschedule. If the clinic only runs on Fridays I'm going to try to move it up a week -- grant it, that would be during camp but I'm local for camp and would rather go sooner rather than later.

Have had a look and the weather forecast is crap. Am packing jeans, sweatshirts, jackets, jumpsuits, longsleeved vests, wet weather gear and lots of socks for BabyScout. No point in taking lots of cute tee-shirts, etc. I also got a couple of extra folding "smalls" hangers to hang up his things to dry in our tent if needed. Poor BabyScout -- I was really hoping his first camp would be warm and sunny.

CMOTdibbler · 13/08/2010 15:24

Lovely to be home after hospital - the oldies were doing my head in, and I really wasn't getting enough sleep.

amberlight · 13/08/2010 17:01

How are you feeling, CMOT???

Hello, everyone. I'm really not sure that I'm in the right place - one child and trying to come to terms with having the one.

This thread looks waaaay too much fun for all of that!

If someone could pitch in and point me in the right direction, that would be great Smile

Thanks!

UniS · 13/08/2010 19:25

wayhay Sussexoldspot, Hi. Welcome to teh mayhem and mutual hand holding society that is the tea room. Other threads do exist, but this one is more fun.

Are you really named after a pig? There is probably a guinea pig somewhere about the tea room, if you hear a snuffling from deep within a distressed chintz sofa... that'll be the guinea pigs. They like twiglets.
