Chatty thread for ND mumsnetters

I thought I'd try and start a friendly chatty thread here on the ND board. All are welcome. Bring a cuppa.

I'm whiskeyaramadillo. I'm late 40s and AuDHD. I have a ND parent and two ND children - my third DC is NT ish. I work full time and live on the western edge of London but my heart is firmly in the countryside which is where I grew up. I have one black and white cat who is my sunshine although he is in my bad books today after bringing in a mouse.

Today (Sunday) I'm sorting out my very very messy house - again. Making sure homework is done and uniforms are clean. Putting endless pants and socks in drawers. If I'm lucky I'll get to lie on the sofa and continue reading 'Wintering' by Katherine May or watch a bit of a crappy fantasy movie with a giant mug of tea.

What is everyone up to today?

Did anyone here have the frog book in their assessment
That was weird
The whole assessment was aimed at a 5 year old
I felt like I was being treated as a child
Why have they not come up with a better way to assess adults rather than use the tools they use for children

I had the frog book 😁 I remember thinking 'WTAF is this about'. My autism assessment was about 10 years ago, so I'm a bit surprised the frog book is still being used.

Like @JewelleryCat I had no idea this thread existed. I've posted occasionally on the autism thread, but it's fairly quiet.

A belated 'hello' to everyone.

I had to make up a story out of toys as well .
I thought I did really well actually,I was quite pleased with my story and my discussion of frogs ..
Didn't really expect a diagnosis..no idea what they were actually looking for 😂

Loobyloo9 · 17/11/2024 15:47

I've just ordered some vitamin d ..I feel like I could sleep for a week ..I thought my tiredness was down to my weight loss injections..but then I read something about low vitamin d causing tiredness..and it came on when the clocks changed and the evening got darker ..it's a spray ,so no swallowing tablets ..which is a bonus

Loobyloo9 · 17/11/2024 15:50

Does anyone else eat exactly the same for lunch and dinner, every single day ..then suddenly feel sick at the thought of it and have to find two new meals ..
So me and my two diagnosed boys are like this .. thankfully my DH and other two DC are not like this ..soooo many different meals each day I'm making...that's enough to make anyone tired .

Would an SAD light help? I’ve not tried one myself but I’ve heard they can help

I have A very old one ,I just can't find it ...but I don't know if it works ,I've not used it for a few years I didn't feel much better when I did use it ..
Maybe it's something that needs replacing

It’s completely up to you. If it didn’t work for you before, then don’t get another one. See what the spray does and maybe try something else as well like B12 if you could be low in that

Thank you for welcoming me, that’s very kind of you 🙂 so is this thread just to hang out and chat about whatever we like?

Exactly that 😀

I think I might do this. I know this staff member is doing it deliberately because they've misinterpreted my behaviour, and I'd like them to stop.

And I think education is a better approach right now rather than a complaint. Although I'll still compile my evidence just in case it comes to that.

I really hope not, though.

Thank you!

Good luck! Hope it goes well 🤞🤞🤞

I’m on the injections as well and they definitely make me fatigued 😴 But since yours coincided with the clocks changing hopefully vitamin D does the trick. In my case I don’t get the greatest sleep either which is compounding things. Are you making good progress on the jabs? I’ve got another 10 or so pounds to go 🎉 I have (or had?) insulin resistance so losing weight was a nightmare before this medication.

Apparently it’s about seeing if you focus on details vs the big picture, whether you add in emotional elements / a moral or lesson or whether it focuses more on ‘the facts’ of what happens, rigidity in the events, and so forth.

Signing in. Hi everyone. Nearing middle age, ADHD and autism diagnosed earlier this year and I still feel like I'm coming to terms with it all / looking for coping mechanisms that work. Very little is getting done work-wise this morning, but I have a list and am just picking off a few easier / more reachable things and then will call it a day.

I had the frog book too. I remember at some point there was a dog chasing (?) the frogs, and I said something like "Fluffy* is chasing the frogs." My assessor looked a bit alarmed and asked how I knew the dog's name. I pointed out that it was written on his collar. She replied that no one had ever noticed that. Brilliant, so I guess that's attention to detail covered off...

(no idea what the dog's name actually was, memory like a sieve)

Anyway - good to meet everyone.

Welcome! ☺️ ‘Memory like a sieve’ - same. Or Swiss cheese, or a colander, take your pick 🙃

I've only recently started on the jabs ,not long before clocks changed which is why I can't work out what's causing the tiredness.
Actually though it's suddenly gone dull here and started raining and I can feel myself getting sleepy..5 pm feels like 1 am..
I'm also vegan ,so probably deficient in all sorts .
Took me a year to work up to having the jabs ,I got sucked in to all the ...it's cheating stories.....in other words I had huge expectations of the weight just falling of me ..sadly not to be ,I still have to calorie count and put the leg work in ..very disappointing it's not the quick fix tictock had me believe .
Sounds like your doing well on it 🙂

Ah that makes sense ...for the frog book ,I just said what I saw .frogs on lilly pads... frogs flying...,frogs watching TV ....it went like that ..I wasn't wrong thats what happened in the pictures..there was no actual story to it ,well not that i could see

Hello.nice to meet you ..
Did it come as a shock getting diagnosed.
I had a three year wait on NHS ,and all I could think about was Autism and if I had it or not .then I got the diagnosis, before Christmas last year and I've never given it a thought since ...it's like I've ticked that box ,I can move on now

Same here, vegan. I had a blood test a while back which prompted me to start Mounjaro. Vitamin D was low for me so I’ve been taking a daily supplement. Iron and B12 were fine but I take a vegan multi that has those in it so I guess it was good enough. And my progress is slow! Maybe 1 pound a week? But better slow and steady I think 👍

I don't know where I'm at weight wise,I need to be in a good place mentally to weigh myself, otherwise it's all downhill and self sabotage.i had blood test to and got told very low vitamin d ,but I thought I'd rectified that ..my £6 vegan vitamins d spray arrived from Amazon, and I don't know if I'm imagining it ,but I feel better already ..last time I weighed I lost a stone and a half ,but I've not weighed in a few weeks now .all clothes are much looser

I think you need to tell me bout the frog in the book. I have an autism assessment coming up. Telling a story about a frog in a book sounds horrific.

Probably best not to prepare especially, but basically it’s a children’s book with no text and you’re ask to explain what happens in the book, iirc. It’s not graphic or frightening or anything, just a bit odd.
