I'll start:

Problem = X
Solution = "They must be autistic because..."

They don't like wet food
They don't like wearing socks
They shout when I'm in the bathroom
They cancelled a trip
They sometimes look to the left when I'm speaking to them

Please feel free to add your own 'FFS, really?' here.

OP posts:

And apparently now I’m suggesting they should just go top themselves.

Seriously @mnhq what the fuck?

EatSleepRantRepeat · 24/03/2022 09:29

@MNHQ really need to add a function for individual users to block other posters from showing in the discussion at their end. The twitter mute and block buttons are sanity savers

AchillesPoirot · 24/03/2022 09:32

I’m actually so upset.

Why can’t they see the casual diminishing of autistic peoples experience and putting them in the you are unreasonable to make accommodations FOR YOURSELF THAT DONT AFFECT ANYONE ELSE bucket is ableist and unfair?

AchillesPoirot · 24/03/2022 09:32

Sorry. I’m really upset and angry and hurt.

EatSleepRantRepeat · 24/03/2022 10:54

Disability inspo by NTs for NDs is the adult version of the 'biggest cheers for the slowest child' at sports day.

We are not inspo porn or morality pets - we are people too.

PS anyone else who was the recipients of the biggest cheers or 'you're doing very well' when every objective indicator says otherwise ever make you think 'kill me NOW'?!

AchillesPoirot · 24/03/2022 10:56

Thanks everyone I’m sorry for ranting but I’m sitting here with my inner arms in shreds due to a bad feeling jumper the other day and it is anything but unreasonable to buy myself “special” shirts

EatSleepRantRepeat · 24/03/2022 11:00

Mumsnet seems to have gotten a real dark side, especially in the last couple of years. There used to be funny posts about the minutiae of life and now it's mainly people competing to post the most horrible, cold responses from their armchairs at home. You can tell there are also a lot of frustrated people who had kids as a recompense for not achieving their full potential, who feel important by making unqualified medical diagnoses on people. Its a bit pathetic really.

Ugh I feel that, my legs are often in shreds thanks to winter and having to wear heavy itchy clothes.

I can imagine that's infuriating - I don't tend to attract that attention but I go unnoticed in most group things because I don't participate in the first place Grin

JohnMcCainsDeathStare · 24/03/2022 11:06

That was only ever a school thing. My adult life is SO much better since I actually can control who I work with and when and whom I perform for to a much greater extent.

School is such a shitshow for ND people - so much forced association - it isn't socialization and stupid rules like uniform that hurt more than help.

Clarice99 · 24/03/2022 11:48

I don't blame you for not wanting to be involved in that bullshit @EatSleepRantRepeat

We get enough crap without actively inviting it.

Well done for saying no 😁

FFS 😡

I'm so sorry @AchillesPoirot Flowers

Flowers Achilles

I don't think @mnhq goes anywhere - you are better off tagging a specific mod or using 'report' .

ofwarren · 24/03/2022 19:01

You seen this one where the OP says the teacher "pulls the neurodiverse card"?
She says she has recently been diagnosed with ADHD herself but it's not acceptable to say that about someone with autism who cannot use the phone.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 24/03/2022 20:37

@ofwarren looks like a standard autism bashing thread. There's at least one each day now.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 24/03/2022 21:47

There's another one in AIBU now. They do love a good wind up don't they? They're coming thick and fast, like locusts.

AchillesPoirot · 24/03/2022 21:55

I’m on that one I think @BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation

AchillesPoirot · 24/03/2022 22:13

Yeah I think I’m actually done with mumsnet now because of that thread.

What’s the point. There’s no point in reporting because nothing changed and they don’t care.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 24/03/2022 22:24

I know. I don't know what to think about people who hate autistics as much as they do. It's certainly very sad, particularly towards children, but how many of the threads are even genuine?

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 24/03/2022 22:26

I must admit, I wouldn't be on MN if there was an alternative. If anyone finds an alternative then please let me know. This place has been having a detrimental effect on me for quite some time.

AchillesPoirot · 24/03/2022 22:26

Apparently that one is fine.

It’s just that the OP's perspective may be one that some find difficult to resonate with.

And MNHQ have decided to let this thread stand because it seems the OP is being honest about their dilemma and seeking support and perspective in order to work through their discomfort with how they feel. They have received some helpful responses and have not broken any talkguidelines so they will leave it up.

The whole premise of the thread from the very first post is discriminatory. But hey ho.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 24/03/2022 22:28

I think the threads are carefully worded to get around the rules.

AchillesPoirot · 24/03/2022 22:30

@BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation

I think the threads are carefully worded to get around the rules.
Absolutely agree
BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 24/03/2022 22:31

It's all getting rather obvious now. They probably pop over here to see if we're complaining about the threads and feeling happy because it's having the desired effect.
