Muslim Mumsnetters

This board exists primarily for the use of Muslim Mumsnetters. Others are welcome to post but please be respectful.

Anyone else fed up with some of the blatant anti-muslim hatred on mumsnet?

I don't know if i should even bother trying to address it anymore.
Anyone else fed up?

I've been told that many times since I was a toddler. Ir would help if you told me why.

I still haven't seen you say if homosexuality is a sin, after some 20 posts.

Well, when someone comes along who asks such a question in good faith, without the intentional use of offensive language, I'm sure people would be happy to have a conversation about it. Ideally in its own thread.

Cool, take your assumptions and say nothing then x

You could crush what you think are my assumptions by saying you don't support any theocracy, though.

It's really that easy.

sillything · 06/01/2025 19:21

Ha! Plenty of people have asked me what's wrong with me all throughout my life.

I dare say there is nothing wrong with for being an atheist. Nor for being a woman or a lesbian.

Least of all for questioning a supposedly "atheist" poster who stated a society that followed sharia law would have nothing wrong with it.

If you're OK with a theocracy, then I really don't know what to say.

Who said there was nothing wrong with sharia law?

But we won't. You know why not?

Because next week- or tomorrow" will be someone else saying "tell me you don't agree with this" "tell me you don't support suicide attacks" "tell me you don't support Saudi Arabia" "tell me you don't support honour killings" etc etc. For you this is (very obviously) a rare conversation with actual Muslims. For us we are pressed near daily to reassure people that we're not criminals. So, no. We don't need to live our lives justifying ourselves against Islamophobic tropes.

I'm taking a lead our of @Scirocco's very kind book in replying to you sincerely. But it will be the only time.

Scirocco has already told you she doesn't judge you for your sexuality. Why don't you just drop it now? There are plenty of other boards tearing Islam apart that you can join. This thread was started by Muslim women to discuss the hate they're exposed to. You come on with more hate. Muslims are under huge pressure at the moment with relentless criticism. Let people have their safe space where they can discuss their issues without being attacked.

At least there is a consensus among people that you have issues. Why don’t you address those before you try to engage with people.

Again why are you derailing this thread? After 20 something posts. Why don’t you make your own thread?

Then say nothing.

Then say there's nothing wrong with being a woman, an atheist or a lesbian, and that it's not a sin to love another woman.

If you do, you'll be the first on this thread. Go!

Blah blah blah, make your own thread.

Blah blah blah,
Bluh bluh bluh.
Is a theocracy right for you? Coo!

See, I could also be silly. But it really can't hurt if you answered if

  1. Do you prefer a theocracy?
  2. Lesbians - are they sinners?

Somehow no one has been able to give me a straight answer so far. They just try and pretend the United States of Lesbians are being very prejudiced and oppressive and homicidal and genocidal and suppressive and all.

What a silly goose you are. Coming here and being disingenuous and derailing this thread. Why should I engage with you? If you want engagement make your own thread.

Scirocco · 06/01/2025 20:09

@sillything people might be more inclined to engage constructively if you refrained from the intentional use of offensive language.

Saying you wish someone no harm becomes somewhat undermined by the intentional use of offensive language known to be hate speech against those people.

It's clear that you have strong negative feelings about Islam. Trying to offend people here isn't going to achieve anything though, beyond ending up feeling more negative emotions.

I have no interest in debating the pros and cons of theocracies or other systems of government, nor in discussing religious perspectives on sexuality, with people who repeatedly and intentionally use hate speech in attempts to cause offence. When someone starts such discussions in good faith and manages to avoid repeated use of offensive language, I will probably be happy to discuss such topics with them.

For goodness sake @sillything . This thread is about anti Muslim hatred and you have kind of proved the point.

I am a white British woman - I will stand up against racism

I am a heterosexual woman - I will stand up against homophobia

I am an atheist - I will stand up against religious discrimination

I will never not believe a victim of sexual abuse or domestic abuse. I will stand up to those who make comments about having self respect in a domestic situation because I understand it isn’t that simple and stand up to victims of sexual abuse when there are comments about having to report to save all others (check my posting history)

please leave this thread, it really isn’t the right place for what you are commenting on
.

Scirocco · 06/01/2025 21:21

@sillything I refer you to my previous posts and suggest you go elsewhere. I have already stated I have no issue with your sexuality, ethnicity or other protected characteristics. I will continue to advise that the intentional use of hate speech is unlikely to generate constructive engagement or discussion. All sexual violence is reprehensible, as I'm confident my sisters here will agree. I hope at some point you feel able to engage in discussions in good faith, without resorting to intentional use of offensive language or personal attacks, but until that point, I'd suggest that, for the sake of your blood pressure if nothing else, you try elsewhere on the site for a bit.

@Sillything you continue to use derogatory language. Then you complain why people won’t engage with you. This has nothing to do with being ladylike, white or a non native. It’s about having manners and decency. Which you clearly don’t have.

You need to post your own thread on the topic and maybe people will engage.

I am sorry that you have been assaulted in the past I hope you are getting the help you need to heal and recover.
