Gaza. Another example of how Muslims are seen as vermin, to be eradicated.

Iraq, Afghanistan, and now Gaza. whole cities, towns, villages, communities razed to the ground. The number of deaths are staggering. Mothers, fathers, uncles, aunts, brothers, sisters, children, dead, destroyed.

Apparently "we" asked for it so it's justified. We are rats. We are terrorists, we are backward, we are rubbish, better off dead.

I don't know why I'm posting this really.

Just. So. Tired. Of. It.

It's exhausting, just the day to day coping with how some people see us. It's especially hard when those people might previously have seemed tolerant or even supportive, when it suited them.

But not everyone feels that way. I've also been touched by the support and understanding from friends and strangers alike.

ForestFawn · 05/05/2024 21:57

What was hugely painful for me was the response to Ukraine. Seeing this huge outpour of grief and support for Ukrainians whilst the lives of Iraqis and Afghanis meant nothing was really difficult. It was a stark reminder that we don’t matter. It hurt much more than I expected it to.

Well there is a question of what is deemed an Islamist terrorist attack and why the frequent attacks by white non-Muslims are not called terror attacks. Claiming they happen all over the world with great frequency is hyperbole.

In any event, to respond to your misinformed comment, the Muslim Council of Britain does often condemn attacks - it just doesn’t get much attention.

Parkingt111 · 05/05/2024 22:26

Yes, I feel muslim lives matter less to some

Yes exactly this.

However, when it comes to Palestine I do feel that the world is finally waking up to the decades of injustice that they have been subjected to and are no longer staying silent about it.

Scirocco · 05/05/2024 22:42

How lovely. Another "we're watching you" comment to remind us that what we'd hoped could be a safe space isn't going to be allowed to be.

Parkingt111 · 05/05/2024 22:48

@Scirocco from a rather hypocritical poster too

Yes and no. Generally people are becoming aware of the history of the region and how appallingly Palestinians have been treated, and that Netanyahu is a complete and utter warmonger. But the reality is Israel is not going to have to face the consequences of its actions so nothing is going to change.

Scirocco · 05/05/2024 22:49

@Parkingt111 indeed. Can you imagine the uproar if someone did this sort of thing to any other minority group?

Scirocco · 05/05/2024 22:50

Thankfully moderators look to have taken action.

It’s Mumsnet. Anything anti-Islam is fair game here. I mean, look how long it took to even get this space started.

It's a shame. There are things I'd like to discuss with other Muslim women but just don't feel like I want to be entertainment for the "we're watching you" brigade.

I try and give these posters the benefit of the doubt and assume they just happened to see the heading in active and posted without looking at the board. However, knowing that poster, I suspect she was actively watching us.

TowerStork · 05/05/2024 23:22

I'm not Muslim. The thread just popped up in active topics and the title struck a chord. I was listening to a podcast about the Australian military yesterday and the casual dehumanisation of Afghanis and Iraqis was frightening.

Dulra · 06/05/2024 10:04

I had not realised how bad things were until I started posting on the conflict in the middle east threads. It is is so blatant and righteous with no hint of caring about how racist they are being. I think the hypocrisy is what angers me the most. You either see all people as equal or you don't, you can't pick and choose who deserves to be discriminated against and who doesn't.

I have also got increasingly frustrated with Mumsnet and what they do and don't allow. So I don't think a thread for Muslim posters is a safe space unfortunately. I think I'm done with Mumsnet and the hate and divisions they're site is contributing to, they should be ashamed of what their site has become.

TakeMe2Insanity · 07/05/2024 03:54

It’s beyond awful. I can’t even begin to imagine how tired and frightened people are in Rafah tonight. I had a brief view of the ME section and the posts are just horrible. Over 30,000 dead not to mention maimed etc but apparently it’s ok because they deserved it.

Agree 100%

I agree. The posts on here have been especially disgusting in the last 2 days. It's actually hard to believe these people exist. I also agree about mumsnet. They don't take action on a lot of hate speech that's posted here and reported. It's genuinely shocking.

Sorry I've never been in this section before and am not Muslim but I'm just beside myself at what's happening in Rafah. I just saw another horrifically injured child (just popped up on Instagram) and it's made me so upset.

I hope you are all okay given the horrendous situation in Gaza and the resultant hatred that you're being exposed to. I'm thinking of you.

Scirocco · 08/05/2024 06:19

@ConnieCounter you're very welcome here! I hope you're ok - it can be so hard to keep from getting overwhelmed by everything in Gaza and elsewhere. At the moment, the world can feel like a very dark place.

TakeMe2Insanity · 08/05/2024 09:11

I’ve done the school run, baby sleeping so sat in the car and read wizard bisan’s post from last night, along the lines that she is praying for Allah to take her soon. That just made me so sad. That broke my heart that while these people are standing witness to the horrors their hope is fading… honestly I pray they get justice and freedom.

Parkingt111 · 08/05/2024 09:40

I was speaking to my mum yesterday and she told me when she heard about the planned assault on Rafah she couldn't sleep properly all night.
The images coming out of Rafah are gut wrenching, I still can't believe the world is allowing this to happen 💔

Parkingt111 · 08/05/2024 09:56

Lots of people have seen that picture of the women holding her neices body that went viral but not many have seen the little girl. I sobbed when i saw her she looked just like my neice. People often just see the dead as statistics and figures. But here was a little girl who had her whole life ahead of her. Her only crime was being Palestinian, born in Gaza.

What a beautiful little girl. What a waste and a loss.

I was watching Al Jazeera yesterday and they had a very long programme telling the stories of some of the children, including many babies, killed by Israel. It was so sad I had to turn it off and take a walk. Somehow seeing them playing and laughing and having fun with their families was even more jarring than the horrendous photos we're now sadly used to seeing of dead and injured children in Gaza.

It's so important to tell their stories but my God is it sad. Such a waste of potential.
