Does anyone else feel like the Islamophobia on Mumsnet has ramped up in recent days?

There have been several faux innocent threads started which have given posters the opportunity to be open in their Islamophobia. It’s truly depressing to read.

The oxygen of publicity, freedom and letting people show their true colours is often better in a democracy than closing down free speech even if it is the views of others with whom I disagree.

Just checking in to see if everyone is OK.
Especially after the events of the last few days.

Thanks for checking in @Parkingt111. I don't know it's hard to say really. The mother who lost her 6 kids and returned to them as ashes really affected me yesterday (they all do tbh). Then you get people justifying it is just infuriating.

How are you?

That one really got to me too. I've seen some pretty bad things in my time, but that... The pain in her words triggered some pretty bad flashbacks. I sat up half the night just watching DC breathe (I have 1 DC here with me and 1 DC who'll be waiting for us in Jannah, insha'Allah). Took so much willpower for me to wave DC off to nursery this morning.

@anotherlevel @Scirocco I was really traumatised after the Rafah massacre too. That story of the mother was heartbreaking. I went onto my social media and the first thing on my feed was the raw uncensored footage of the aftermath. Its so bad but I wish I didn't see it because I can't get it out my mind. Can't imagine how the poor Palestinians are still coping somehow with the non stop aggression.
Just been listening to more Quran as it has a calming effect.

Parkingt111 · 29/05/2024 17:45

Hope you are both feeling abit better and everyone else too

Parkingt111 · 29/05/2024 18:18

I should probably avoid the CITME board 😬 for awhile because people trying to justify it, or 'legalise' the massacres is really filling me with so much anger

I know the posts are getting ridiculous

I wish people could just leave us alone. What is the bloody point in trying to seek support online when people just come on and start saying "oh, you don't care about xyz though". Yes, yes I do care. Today though, I'm mostly upset about this one specific thing, on top of all the other things. It's like people don't understand people can care about more than one thing and still want to discuss one thing at a time.

Don’t you know - we are responsible for the actions of all Muslims everywhere. Doesn’t matter what’s actually happened - if it involves someone who is a Muslim, we are all collectively responsible.

It’s not lost on me that society accepts blaming Jews for the actions of Israel is anti semitic but the same courtesy is not extended to Muslims.

I have stopped reading that board a long time ago. It's awful

Scirocco · 01/06/2024 20:42

Love the thread over in Sports. So far it's covered Tommy Robinson, "the UK respects Muslims!", and Rochdale police/social work/family law.

I missed that. Sports! A whole new area of blame!

Oh gosh, sounds delightful. I'm not even going to look. I know mumsnet always says to challenge the islamophobia but I often just try and ignore it. Kudos to those who do challenge it

I'm actually shaking now, after reading the 'Maldives' thread in CITME. How f*cking heartless can people be.

Totally agree - extraordinarily crass and inhumane - well done for speaking up so calmly

I read that comment with my mouth open.
I certainly would not have been as polite as you in my response.

anotherlevel · 03/06/2024 08:39

An absolutely awful post. I was shocked to read that. You handled it so well @Scirocco.

Disgusting post. I don't recognise the username. Your post back was well measured and respectful well done. I had thought about reporting it but then your response wouldn't make sense and you got quite a bit of support for it so probably best it stands so people can see how cruel some posters are

BibiSuzanne · 03/06/2024 10:48

I wonder if some of these 'mumsnetters' have only made accounts in the past 8 months. You know what I'm getting at. We see it all over innocent FB groups that I've been on for years such as Palestine in the 50s, Palestinian Tatreez, Palestinian Recipes. All of a sudden these vile people come on and make nasty comments on there.

BibiSuzanne · 03/06/2024 10:49

So don't take it to heart @Scirocco. They've been paid to do this.

Scirocco · 03/06/2024 12:23

The silence about it in the thread speaks volumes.

Efacsen · 03/06/2024 14:56

It's gone now - took more than 12 hours though

EnglishBluebell · 03/06/2024 14:59

Whilst I'm white british so perhaps not as observant of it, I genuinely haven't EVER noticed anything even remotely negative towards any other religion or race. If I did, I'd report it immediately.

Really? You mean on MN? Really?!

Which bits of the forum are you hanging about in, it's everywhere!

I've been on a thread today where someone said that Palestinians being killed was voluntary and therefore implied it was Palestinian children's own fault when they are blown up.

I've seem posters demand Muslim women leave a thread because the non Muslim women wanted to talk about whether people should be wearing a hijab and they weren't interested in the Muslim women's opinions on the subject

I've seem white posters repeatedly go on to the black mumsnetters topic to debate black women over and over again

And the resistance to the black mumsnetters having a topic in the first place was disgusting.

I've seen black women essentially be told to sit down and shut up whilst the white women fix sexism and then maybe they will consider talking about racism. I've seen some horrendous shit on here, much deleted but still more allowed to stand.

But then I wonder about the intentions of someone coming into a group of people who are known for facing islamophobia, who are discussing actual threads where its happening, merely to tell them you don't see it happen...
