Does anyone else feel like the Islamophobia on Mumsnet has ramped up in recent days?

There have been several faux innocent threads started which have given posters the opportunity to be open in their Islamophobia. It’s truly depressing to read.

OP posts:
MissyB1 · 18/05/2024 21:41

Just seen a post on there calling all Palestinian men “rabid dogs”.

WTH!

It’s Palestinian men that are digging people out of rubble with their bare hands, physically carrying the injured to hospital, digging graves, caring for their people.

anotherlevel · 18/05/2024 22:49

Wow that thread is absolutely vile and riddled with so much racism and Islamophobia. And what's even more shocking is that Mumsnet is allowing it to still stay. Wow. I couldn't bring myself to read it all.

They are absolutely conflating Palestinian civilians with Hamas.

One poster commented this and it just shows their complete ignorance.

"I don't wish to be controversial, but they also have no record of attacking people in the name of making God great."

Interesting both our posts mentioned a country and both were reported/deleted. And very quickly.

Deleted again! So not allowed to say i suspect there are bots on mumsnet that support [insert whatever]
WTAF mumsnet?
What about if I say pro Russian bots? That's allowed I bet.

Efacsen · 19/05/2024 07:13

@changefromhr don't think you're allowed to mention bots from any country - the difference is whether or not the post is reported and this thread is clearly being 'monitored'/posts being reported. Other posts referencing Russian bots etc generally seem to get ignored - posters just shrug and scroll on by

Also have the racist refugee thread hidden and most threads with a Telegraph/DM link in the OP because they always go the same way and seem to attract some very unpleasant characters- will report the refugee thread later

Dulra · 19/05/2024 10:10

@Efacsen how do you report a thread? I can only see how you report a post

Efacsen · 19/05/2024 10:20

Dulra · 19/05/2024 10:10

@Efacsen how do you report a thread? I can only see how you report a post

The last time I did this I reported the worst post and in the report box explained it was only an example of an overall awful thread and it wasn't possible to report all the T&C breaking posts - it took over 12 hours to be deleted but lots of PP on the thread were saying the same. So.....?

anotherlevel · 19/05/2024 10:24

I've done the same @Efacsen & @Dulra. There really needs to be a better way of doing it tbh.

Yes I've done it 3 times, thought maybe I was missing another way. They respond saying they've deleted the post but no reference to my request for deleting the thread. There hasn't even been an intervention to say they're watching it and to remind posters to stick within their guidelines

anotherlevel · 19/05/2024 11:29

@Dulra I thought the same too about the intervention message. I received a reply from them just saying the usual "thanks for reporting, we're taking a look at it now" and nothing else.

To be honest, it’s stopped me from coming and using the forum. A lot of the posters that are posting have only recently registered. That's why I stopped engaging with them.

It's such a shame. It would be lovely to have an actual safe space, but it's hard to feel like that's possible.

I totally agree with this. I am on some female Muslim only groups on Facebook which does help.

I feel the whole situation in the world has been eye opening for me. It genuinely makes me afraid for my children’s future. I wish I had relocated to another country when I had the chance to.

Part of me still clings to a tiny bit of hope that my home country can escape from this dark slide to the far right, but the pragmatist in me is looking at what we need to do to make a quick exit when we need to. Not sure where we'd go, though.

I've requested for this board to be hidden from active. @BeckyAMumsnet

I still haven't heard back from Mumsnet about this. It's been a week now almost.

I'm sorry you feel this way :(. There's been an influx of new posters recently and some who have disappeared too.

It does feel like there's been an influx of new posters with anti-palestinian/Muslim views.

It does feel like there's been an influx of new posters with anti-palestinian/Muslim views.

There's often a flurry of new accounts when something happens that might suggest increasing sympathy for Palestinians, or something critical of the right wing. Several have quite similar posting styles.

Wow the post on the ICC thread is awful. I've reported it for hate speech and Islamophobia but it's still standing.

Is it gone now? I know it saw it too

anotherlevel · 29/05/2024 13:58

@Whatsinanamehey the poster requested for it to be withdrawn because they could see it was causing the thread to derail but still stood by what they said. It was withdrawn after I reported it and I received an email from MN to say they will look into it but by that point MN had already withdrawn it.

If I read between the lines it feels like they ignored my request and only withdrew it at the other posters request. Or maybe I'm reading too much into it.

Scirocco · 29/05/2024 14:51

I'm still waiting for the poster to respond to ny question about why the prosecutor's name is relevant... I'm guessing they won't respond because there's only one answer they can give and it puts them in a negative light.

anotherlevel · 29/05/2024 14:56

They still haven't answered mine either by what they meant about one part. 🙄

anotherlevel · 29/05/2024 14:57

Oh and when I pulled them up on their double standards on another thread my post was deleted 🙄

Parkingt111 · 29/05/2024 15:01

Just checking in to see if everyone is OK.
Especially after the events of the last few days.
