Does anyone else feel like the Islamophobia on Mumsnet has ramped up in recent days?

There have been several faux innocent threads started which have given posters the opportunity to be open in their Islamophobia. It’s truly depressing to read.

I don’t frequent these boards enough to be able to comment about whether it’s getting worse, but sending solidarity to everyone who experiences Islamophobia - it’s vile and unacceptable

Absolutely, as a Palestinian I'm finding it very hard. I've made it clear I'm a Christian and still get the Hamas card. So it's not only them being Islamophobic, but a real contempt for Palestinians and an utter refusal to acknowledge the history.

BibiSuzanne · 17/05/2024 08:56

And then we are asked why we don't march for the Congo or organise something for something else??? Why? I march for other issues too but why must it be a prerequisite for supporting my own country.

They don’t want Palestinians to exist full stop.

I see some lurkers have been on here having messages deleted 🙄

anotherlevel · 17/05/2024 10:53

It's awful isn't it @BibiSuzanne

I too am not a Muslim, but spent many years living in the Middle East, and can say that we experienced nothing but generosity, kindness and a great willingness to talk about and explain Islam. I was genuinely shocked by the prevalence of Islamaphobia across the UK when we came here.

It IS shocking and I was very naive to assume Islamaphobia only came from a small group of uneducated people but its endemic.
I am not a Muslim but live in an area with a high Muslim population. Muslim groups are always at the street kitchens and when there were floods some years back some local Mosques took bus loads of helpers to the clean up.
I was off MN for around 6 months and since I came back in March I have seen some shocking opinions and while I would like to believe its all due to Bots or people with an agenda I am afraid that there seem to be a lot of quite nice reasonable seeming people who do genuinely hate and fear Islam for some reason (probably due to believing the right wing press).
Its horrible and I really feel for the people experiencing it

Why have messages been deleted? I can't remember what they were but nothing I replied to struck me as offensive.

I'm sure whoever reported it will be along shortly to explain.

I'm Arab but not Muslim. I too have noticed a lot of Islamophobia on here recently. It is quite depressing. It feels very similar to the atmosphere after 9/11.

Interesting both our posts mentioned a country and both were reported/deleted. And very quickly.

Almost like people are watching and waiting for opportunities to report...

Meanwhile, frank Islamophobia leads to advice to "just challenge it in the thread".

Yes!

DragonFly98 · 17/05/2024 21:29

No haven't noticed any, I have only seen the rise in antisemitism on this site and in social media in general.

That's good that you've not experienced or noticed any - it's a horrible thing for people to experience discrimination, rudeness and hatred because of their faith or ethnicity, and it's horrible for people to have their concerns about such experiences dismissed on those same grounds, so I'm glad you've not had to deal with that.

And another ugly thread on UK admitting refugees from Gaza. The hatred and racism towards us Palestinians is depressing and frightening.

I'm so sorry @BibiSuzanne. I haven't been on here much today so I've not seen the thread yet but it must be so awful to read posts like that on here. Flowers

It is disgusting. I have reported it three times and if it's not deleted I will be making an official complaint. I don't know why Mumsnet want to be associated with such hate

I've seen it, outright racism on display and the thread is allowed to stand. Some truly hideous things being said on there.
