So which one do you want to be Christmas number 1?
I have downloaded RATM.

I could'nt care less about ratm, or who gets to number 1 for that matter.
Stopped being interested in this years ago.
I just hate this plastic expression free music that is completely and utterly soul
destroying.
As for the participants,- particulary the younger ones,- Most of them will be flipping burgers this time next year, or if they're really lucky appearing in christmas panto in widness or some such.

Kaloki · 15/12/2009 17:02

"It's FUN, Kaloki. "

If you're doing it for fun, then I definitely understand and think that's great.

"As for the participants,- particulary the younger ones,- Most of them will be flipping burgers this time next year, or if they're really lucky appearing in christmas panto in widness or some such."

And for that they can't have fun now?

NormaSknockers · 15/12/2009 17:03

I think The Muppets should be number 1

I have to say though whatever happend to the "proper" Christmassy number 1s like All I Want For Christmas, I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday, Merry Christmas Everybody etc?

UnquietDad · 15/12/2009 17:04

I certainly won't buy Joe's song but I'm not about to start throwing my hands up in horror at it. I watched The X-Factor this year for what it was - a piece of weekend entertainment.

AllFallDown · 15/12/2009 17:20

History's so littered with great Christmas No 1s before the X Factor, isn't it? Am I the only one who finds it intensely patronising that this campaign is built on the assumption that the people who buy the X Factor single are idiots who are only doing so because Simon Cowell has told them? Might it not be because they like the person who's singing it, after seeing him on TV, and they like the perfectly serviceable song he's singing?

AllFallDown · 15/12/2009 17:22

PS And RaTM are not in the least alternative. They are mega selling zillionaires, who - in fairness to them - at least talk the talk and (Tom Morello at least) walk the walk. But they are corporate rock giants.

curryfreak · 15/12/2009 17:25

Allfalldown, Yes it is assumed they are idiots, and idiots lacking in any imagination at that!
Hope that answers your question.

ParanoidAtAllTimes · 15/12/2009 17:25

I downloaded RATM purely because it would be funny if it was Christmas no. 1! And it brings back memories of playing it in the 6th form common room

MattBellamysMuse · 15/12/2009 17:29

Allfalldown, no-one's saying people who buy the X-Factor songs are stupid. But by timing the final so that the winner's single goes on sale in Christmas week every bloody year, Cowell ensures that his product is always Christmas number one.

MattBellamysMuse · 15/12/2009 17:30

And just because a band sells a lot of records does not make them 'corporate'. How ridiculous.

IMoveTheStarsForNoOne · 15/12/2009 17:31

MBM, the thing about the cheap amazon copy was also on the FB thing - how odd!

Kaloki · 15/12/2009 17:33

"But by timing the final so that the winner's single goes on sale in Christmas week every bloody year, Cowell ensures that his product is always Christmas number one."

It's called marketing, rather than all out evilness.

MattBellamysMuse · 15/12/2009 17:34

I know, that's where I got it from. They've changed the page now to say only buy from iTunes, Play.com or 7digital.

MattBellamysMuse · 15/12/2009 17:34

Who said it was evil?

Kaloki · 15/12/2009 17:37

Noone did on here, but Simon Cowell does kind of get talked about like he's some evil scheming overlord inflicting Xfactor upon the masses. Makes me giggle.

MattBellamysMuse · 15/12/2009 18:03

He's not evil but he has got a little to powerful i'd say.

purepurple · 15/12/2009 18:38

I don't particularly like RATM that much.
But for me, The X Factor is torture. I detest it.
That's why I bought the RATM song. I think Simon Cowell is a knob.
I don't like 'popular' music. I don't even know what's in the charts. I don't care who is no 1 for Xmas normally.
Not everyone likes the X factor and i certainly don't think the winner 'deserves' a no 1 because he won a karoake (sp!) competition.

For those who don't like swearing in songs, how about:

"Gosh darn I won't do what you tell me..." maybe?

or

"Fiddlesticks I won't do what you tell me..."

morningpaper · 15/12/2009 18:49

Everyone said this about Stock, Aitken and Waterman

Chill out, it's just industry

Kaloki · 15/12/2009 18:53

"Fiddlesticks I won't do what you tell me..."

Haha, excellent!

NormaSknockers · 15/12/2009 19:00

I don't get why people are so down on Mr.C tbh - yes he's arrogant & smug & I certainly don't get why some women think he's sex on legs but all he's doing his earning a living by selling artists/records etc - it's a job, is that so wrong?

Tidey · 15/12/2009 19:01

If it's going to be Christmas no 1, they should release a special version.

'Ho ho, I won't do what you tell me'.

Kaloki · 15/12/2009 19:30

Apparently so.
