Rachel Unthank and the Winterset. Listen to them- they're new folky stuff.

boogeek · 29/12/2008 19:52

I second Rachel Unthank, they are fab! Also a friend told me I would like Seth Lakeman, though I haven't investigated any further so I don't know whether I really would.
My absolute all-time fave is Christy Moore

fleacircus · 29/12/2008 19:53

Boden and Spiers, quite traditional but new arrangements, they're a fiddling box-playing duo. Or Bellowhead, which is them also plus lots of others. Don't laugh, but The Grass is Blue, by Dolly Parton, proper bluegrass if you like that kind of thing. Slightly rockier folk, try Chris T-T, 'Nine Red Songs', it is indeed red though so you might not like it if you're not of a political bent. And his other stuff is all much rockier so don't bother with that unless it's your bag. Or for UK Country, try the Broken Family Band or The Singing Adams.

SuperBunny · 29/12/2008 19:54

Ooo, this is all good, thank you

Christy Moore is a classic!

I am a fan of Tim Eriksen.

Actually to be fair the Chris T-T is probably more folky rock than rocky folk...

I wasn't a huge RM fan until I saw him live quite by accident and he was Very Good Indeed.

apuppydaviesisforlife · 30/12/2008 13:45

SnowOfHands · 30/12/2008 13:58

Oi, I won't have a word said against him. He's lovely too. Met him after the gig and told him I'd always thought he was crap but had been pleasantly surprised. He said he thought he was crap most of the time too.
