Anyone else miss the old gigs thread and have concerts planned?

Didn't there used to be a Gigs thread?

Anyway, just sorted tickets etc for Masta Ace + Live Band (!) at the Jazz Cafe nexrt month. Very excited about that! No late-night train to get home from Euston, sadly, means an overnight London stay, though. Resigning myself to being the oldest in the audience by some distance 😃, but I can live with that.

one of our local bars (not UK) has cover bands most Fridays and Saturdays, and a 2 day open air festival in summer (very eclectic bunch of music)

costafortunum · 28/09/2026 21:42

I enjoy a cover band. We saw Dirty DC last year and they were brilliant. They have two singers one Brian one Bon Scott, the Bon era is my favourite and I’m never going to see the real Bon Scott perform so it adds something I feel. I’d like to see a Nirvana or Alice in Chains tribute band for the same reason.

We live in the south west so always have to travel to see anyone 🤣🤣

So many good bands in the south west!

@AllTheGigsi love a cover band. I live in a little town in North Devon and getting to actual gigs is a challenge. We have a great small music venue where they put on covers bands and local original bands and it’s brilliant.

The Palladium?

Tarkan · 28/09/2026 22:03

Going to be starting next year off well. Today I won two tickets to a music event in the next town for February. They haven’t released a line up yet but this year was a mix of cover/tribute stuff and decent DJs so not a bad wee win.

Wonderknicks · 28/09/2026 21:46

The Palladium?

Yes! I’m seeing Land of the Giants there in a couple of weeks then a smith’s tribute in November. Want to see Horce Divorse there on Saturday but it’ll depend what time I get home as I’m taking my daughter to a book signing.

love jam night at the pally when I can get down there always good fun

UnderThePressure · 28/09/2026 23:12

I have coming up: Gene in Camden, The Chameleons in Camden, Placebo at Wembley, The Velveteers in Brighton and Editors in Southampton.

socks1107 · 28/09/2026 23:20

I’ve just seen Roger Taylor tonight, surprise appearance from Brian May ( not so surprise ) and it was fabulous!

moto748e · 28/09/2026 23:25

That sounds great, @socks1107 , surprise appearances are so much fun!

On my way to see Weezer in Brooklyn tonight. First time seeing them live.

16 year-old me would SCREAM.

😁😁😁

Silverbirchleaf · 01/10/2026 08:46

If you like a cover band, then ‘Illegal Eagles’ are superb, and there’s a touring production called ‘ Sounds of Springsteen’ which is also really good.

CMOTDibbler · 01/10/2026 21:03

Just bought tickets for TX2 at the Thekla in Bristol- I’d never been there before last year, and it was ideal to go to on my own- plus gigs on a converted ship will
always be cool!

cheesychipsontheoche · 01/10/2026 21:17

Thekla is a great venue - enjoy!

WorthySloth · 01/10/2026 22:00

I really want to see something at thekla however the dates never align ☹️

WorthySloth · 01/10/2026 22:01

Anyway. Tomorrow I am taking my daughter to Stoke on Trent to meet an author for a book signing. Not a gig but should be fun. I went there to university a very long time ago

moto748e · 01/10/2026 23:32

I saw the Cunninlinguists at the Thekla. It's a lot of fun!

@Oldraver absolutely love the Bearcave. Bear is such a lovely bloke met him at a festival when his band was playing bumped into him in a pub in Birmingham and then went to his venue a couple of times where he was really welcoming 😊

Ooh I didn't know there was a bloke called Bear. Our family calls ourselves Bear and our house the Bearvacve, hence wanting to go there

I think Daddy Bear may have to skip as he has surgery on the horizon

AllTheGigs · 03/10/2026 17:01

it is a bit of a thing with us that we will often buy tickets for a gig while we're already at another gig.
Yesterday at the Tom Petty tribute gig (7 in the audience, poor loves, outnumbered by the band and their friends and the bar staff) we bought tickets for Cock Robin next year. And today at a gathering of friends - some of whom were playing music and singing self composed songs - we bought tickets to the Ukelele Orchestra of Great Britain for next year.

Rfriendselectric · 03/10/2026 17:27

One of the concerts I’m most looking forward to is a GnR tribute as it will be my DS’s first concert.

Other ones I’ve got booked:
Manics/Suede
Simple Minds/Gary Numan
Goldie Coloured Chain
Oasis
Ibiza Classics

Tempted by Paul Heaton with Lightning Seeds but resisting so far as need to recover financially from Oasis expenditure!

YessicaHaircut · 03/10/2026 19:19

Great thread!
We don’t make it to as many gigs as we used to but it’s been a pretty good year. We saw Alanis Morrisette and Skunk Anansie as a double headliner in June which was great. I saw Cornish rappers Hedluv + Passman as part of a comedy festival in June too, they do a brilliant show! Clever songs, a bit wacky and really funny.
Last weekend DH and I saw Goldie Lookin Chain and next month we have tickets for Elvana (Elvis/Nirvana mashup) - very excited for that one, I caught a bit of them at a festival a few years back and it’s right up my street!

WorthySloth · 03/10/2026 20:25

@YessicaHaircut I love elvana. Seen them twice as headliners and once at a festival. Their support are brilliant Nick Cage Against The Machine. Saw them as headliners in Bristol last December. It’ll be a brilliant night.

WorthySloth · 03/10/2026 20:29

We are going to try for slash tickets on Wednesday in the presale either Cardiff or London. Depends on cost but hopefully we will go.

I’ve just booked the hotel for Sanctum festival in Birmingham next August. Can recommend if you like unsigned metal and rock bands. Cost me £40 for the last one to see 21 bands over 3 days no clashes and able to chat to all the bands as I handed over my wages for merch 🤣🤣 got next years tickets before we left the venue on the Sunday night 😊

Found my people … although none of you seem to be going to the gigs that I’m off to! I’ve always thought that taste in music is as individual as your taste in food. Some people just love one type of food, others like it a lot more varied. I’m at the eclectic end of the scale (and a keen amateur musician too!). Here’s my line up fir the next 6 months:

Fanfare Cicocarlia
Dexys Midnight runners
Stevie Wonder
Ocean Colour Scene
Sambroso all stars presents Bueno vista social club
Nigel Kennedy
Goldie Lookin Chain

Ive been debating all day if I should buy tickets for Dexys Midnight Runners in 3 weeks time or not. I last saw them in 1983 and have always said it was one of the best gigs Ive ever been to.
Strangely nobody wants to go with me! I think they may be either amazing or flaming awful so cant decide if I should go or not.

Was going to book The Script, seen them 3 times but last time we walked out half way through, they were awful.

Same dilemma with Alfie Boe. He has a concert later this year but I saw him a couple of months ago and I was so disappointed, I wanted to hear the power of his voice but he came on stage with jeans and a flat cap on so sitting higher up meant you were just looking down on the bloody big hat and he sang random stuff like Lonnie Donnegan and he was just like an average front man in a band.

Paul Heaton is fantastic live and prices all his tickets fairly - it’ll be a bargain.
the lightning seeds were the support act the first time I saw the Beautiful South so it’s a full circle for me

bababamama · 03/10/2026 21:43

Well I bagged oasis tickets, knebworth.

currently watching an excellent covers band at my local which definitely has it’s place, weekly free live music including up and coming originals bands as well as covers
