Anyone else miss the old gigs thread and have concerts planned?

Didn't there used to be a Gigs thread?

Anyway, just sorted tickets etc for Masta Ace + Live Band (!) at the Jazz Cafe nexrt month. Very excited about that! No late-night train to get home from Euston, sadly, means an overnight London stay, though. Resigning myself to being the oldest in the audience by some distance 😃, but I can live with that.

Was it good? I really fancied it but wasnt sure two big gigs in two days want too much for me as didn’t know what time I would get home Friday (Bon Jovi ). I saw an acoustic set from them recently but not the same.

The Brighton gig was excellent, we’ve seen them loads over the years and they were def on form.

Yes I saw that, was contemplating myself.

I have The Beat and Selector coming up in October. Plus Courtney Barnett a bit later that month.

I've got Selecter supporting New Model Army in December. Can't wait.

Nothing for me since Lee Ritenour in Ronnie Scott"s. Looking forward to Slade (again!) in December. They're such fun.

There's a great documentary on BBC Iplayer about the birth of ska in Coventry. Well worth a watch if you haven't seen it.

Epoisses · 24/09/2026 21:04

Heaven 17
Jalen Ngonda
Courteeners
All before end of the year.
Seen 11 bands this year.

Oldraver · 24/09/2026 21:23

We're booked to see Skinny Lister @ The Bearvacve in Bournemouth next month, as we wanted to go to this venue. The following week Good Charlotte in Brussels

Skinny Lister and Pet Needs again in December for the Christmas party and on the Cutty Sark the following night

WorthySloth · 24/09/2026 22:42

@Oldraver absolutely love the Bearcave. Bear is such a lovely bloke met him at a festival when his band was playing bumped into him in a pub in Birmingham and then went to his venue a couple of times where he was really welcoming 😊

Found my people … although none of you seem to be going to the gigs that I’m off to! I’ve always thought that taste in music is as individual as your taste in food. Some people just love one type of food, others like it a lot more varied. I’m at the eclectic end of the scale (and a keen amateur musician too!). Here’s my line up fir the next 6 months:

Fanfare Cicocarlia
Dexys Midnight runners
Stevie Wonder
Ocean Colour Scene
Sambroso all stars presents Bueno vista social club
Nigel Kennedy
Goldie Lookin Chain

ohhh thanks. My DH is a bit too old for that wave of Ska and has absolutely no connection to it (although he did love the Specials when we saw them)

We have just bought tickets to a Genesis cover band doing the albums in the aftermath of Gabriel leaving.

Crushed23 · 25/09/2026 15:32

I haven’t come across anyone on MN who is into the same music as me, but here are my upcoming shows (raves, really):

-Notion - Brooklyn, tonight
-Dom Dolla - Queens, Oct 3rd
-Overmono - Manhattan, Oct 9th
-EDC (festival) - Orlando, first week of Nov

Forton26 · 25/09/2026 15:36

The strokes, Placebo and Oasis… all Manchester

I don’t go to as many as i’d like tbh. Cos of pricing( yeah i know Oasis 🤷‍♀️) plus evening work shifts: i have a friend who follows a lot of smaller acts and i go to some small venue gigs with her too.

Last week did Richard Ashcroft and Fatboy Slim (with a day in between).

Looking forward to the Manics and Suede in November.

That will finish up my year of live music. Then need to think about what's coming next!

I saw the manics and suede line up a couple of years ago @ castlefield. Both bands were brilliant but Suede/ Brett shone that night.

cheesychipsontheoche · 25/09/2026 15:43

Shed seven in jan - Tiny record store gig.

I saw Suede probably 30 years ago and they were fabulous then. One of the best live gigs I've seen.

I only saw them maybe once or twice back in the day. But the last time couple of times i saw them in the last few years or so. I agree: amazing and so much energy and great new music too.

On the back of this thread, I have just put ‘Yard Act’ on the speaker. Got no idea what type if music they are, but love listening to new stuff.

i saw suede support Radiohead when Creep had just come out and it was everywhere, wall to wall on MTV.
Suede were fantastic. Radiohead bore me - but then most of us had only heard Creep. When they played it the singer was really scathing "oh you've all been watching MTV" so that put me off them. Suede were fab tho

I’ve booked tickets in Cadogan hall to see Chris de Burgh. I thought the tickets were really well priced and got good seats. I’ve seen him once before, in Royal Albert hall, so this is a much smaller venue.

Same! 😀Good fun, like it, something a bit different.

As there's been a flurry of interest in the thread, I think the story of its genesis can now be told. I was super excited to get ticket to see Masta Ace and a live band. Hip-hop with a live band is a real treat that doesn't come along too often, so I booked room nearby for the night, and settled down in the pub across the road in good time. it was the night of the England/Croatia game, and every pub was showing it, it was full of people with England shirts. I strolled over to the club and spoke to the bouncer on the door, asked what time Masta was on. In about ten minutes, he said. I was about 7 pm! I thought, yeah, right, you just want people in early drinking your beer, and strolled back to the pub. Went back later, around 8.45 pm, asked about the show, he said, it's all over! They'd put him on stage early, so they could show the England game live, so whilst he was on stage, I was sat in the pub like a dick! 🙄Whoever heard of a hip-hop show being all over by 9 pm?
I was so gutted, I ran to the tube station, ran though the Tube system, and just managed to last train home, 200 miles away.

So that, readers, is why there was no review the next day!

Saw Stevie Wonder earlier this year he was absolutely incredible you'll have a wonderful time.

Also saw Yard Act supporting the Hives at Aviva Studios. Brilliant night. Both bands great.

Going to see Joe Jackson on Tuesday, can't wait!

TheresOnlyOneWayOfLife · 25/09/2026 20:06

DH is a mad Welsh Manics fan, thinking of tickets for them or maybe Simple Minds and Gary Numan.
We’ve got Embrace at Roundhouse in November, Pogues at Brixton Academy on 5th December and I may do Del Amitri at Roundhouse as well.
Depends if the ankles, hips and back can cope!

costafortunum · 25/09/2026 20:12

I saw Barry Manilow in Birmingham this year, he was wonderful. Really moving experience.

We’ve got tickets for Duran Duran next month and Fat Dog in October, then Weezer next May. Our first time seeing all of them and I can’t wait! I love having gigs to look forward to.

DH and DSs got tickets for Oasis at the Etihad today, they saw them at Wembley last year. I saw them in about 2007 and wasn’t really bothered about going again.

CrowsInMyGarden · 25/09/2026 20:28

@DareDevil223 I love Sparks. Saw then live around 2017, they were amazing. Have fun
