Having come across some v misogynistic attitudes across social media on heavy metal boards I thought I would start a thread were is women fans of all things hard and heavy could hang out, feel free to say hi.

We've got tickets already. DH is happy about Sleep Token, I'm quite happy about Green Day and Korn. We saw Korn at Gunnersbury Park in August and they were excellent so it should be a good show.

Maatandosiris · 13/11/2024 16:15

I can see no one is excited about Mcfly - WTAF?

The crowd for busted last year was massive! I wasn't in it but I saw it

Mcfly and busted were gateway bands in the day. Different to boy and girl bands and opened people up to other music with guitars and drums. They're a bit nostalgic really

Oh ok, I’m a bit old for that, we went straight into metallica or maiden so bands like that have always fallen into chart pop for me.

I grew up with Led Zeppelin, Extreme, guns n roses and nirvana! But I can see why there was a big following for busted.

Same for Avril I suppose.

Yay just got my Sabaton tickets for Nottingham next year - anyone else going?

Just got home from seeing Within Temptation at Wembley - special guest Tarja 🥰 'what about us' was awesome, so was 'bleed out' (blood imagery in background! 😂)

Not read the full thread so apologies if this has been pointed out, but I think there is very little crossover between those metal fans who post hate on social media, and those who actually go to gigs. I have never felt remotely unsafe at a metal gig.

Yes the people I’ve met at gigs have always been lovely. Proper metal fans who are there for the music are generally the sweetest people.

I've not seen this thread yet. I'm more into post rock and blackgaze but also love a bit of rock in general.

As you can tell by my user name, I'm massively into Arctangent festival. I don't know if anyone has been, but it's genuinely the friendliest festival I've ever been to. I go with friends these days, but I have been on my own a few times and never had a chance to be lonely because I get chatting to lovely people. It's like everyone is waiting to be your new best friend. The music is also treated with such reverence. If there's a quiet bit in a song, you could hear a pin drop as everyone is so respectful.

I thought about going to Arctangent last year to see Heilung but it's a really long way from me. Thankfully they're coming my way instead next year.

Agree also that metal fans are generally a really good bunch; have been to gigs alone and always felt safe.

The only thing I like about metal fans online is the genre snobbery; I don't give a single fuck about which genre is which and which is best and which came first and blah blah blah. If it's good music, it's good music, end of story for me.

Heilung were really good, but I hear they're more impressive when they are on their own tour. It must be seriously impressive though because they were amazing at the festival. I'd love to see what they get up to on tour.

I can’t wait. Excited to see what they have lined up.

Haven’t told DH yet though as he was moaning about the price of London hotels to see Maiden (LP and BTS playing on same day at Wembley and Hyde park respectively) 😂

I’d love to see them but no where near me, the weekend gig is the other side of the country so would need to fly😭

LetMeEnfoldYou · 25/11/2024 19:35

So I'm at a Sleep Token gig on my own, standing with my beer and trying to look like I'm not a complete loser. So thought I'd say hi to you other metal women <waves> 👋👋👋👋👋

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 25/11/2024 21:06

I know a couple at that gig tonight @LetMeEnfoldYou . Enjoy! I've never heard of sleep token 😳

Anyone thinking of going to see Ghost next year?

Yes!!! Been at the first gig of the tour for the last 4 tours, had to travel to France for it last time but couldn't miss it. Glad Ghost 'count', I've had an awful lot of snobbery from male metal fans who don't think Ghost is 'real' metal. Although I met a lovely grandfather and granddaughter duo in France who were seeing them for the first time who were absolutely charming ❤️

Love Sabaton (though couldn't get tickets to 25, and had to watch the cinema release of the last tour) and Powerwolf.

Aware metal is very male dominated in terms of artists too. Apologies, I've not read the whole thread (though I will) does anyone have any female artists they can recommend that haven't been recommended above? I loved Twin Temple when they supported Ghost but they are by their own admission Satanic doo-wop.

I love Nightwish floor is my favorite singer.

When I saw Bruce Dickinson earlier this year he had an awesome female bassist Tanya o Callaghan (also played with quite a few others).

I definitely think ghost are metal - I love melody in my metal-so yay to power wolf. Did you see the voice Ukraine with the girl singing “we drink your blood” - fantastic

Oh it was just stupidly incredible. Although it's quite emotionally gruelling stuff tbh and I cried quite a lot.

I 100% endorse going to gigs alone. Don't let anyone out you off, it's always worth it, and you always end up speaking to people.

I accidentally ended up in the pit which wasn't really for me, but never mind. I retreated, got a beer, and went back in.

That’s fantastic. Glad you had a good time. Absolutely- never miss out on anything by thinking you can’t do it on your own - I missed so many gigs because of this.
