Having come across some v misogynistic attitudes across social media on heavy metal boards I thought I would start a thread were is women fans of all things hard and heavy could hang out, feel free to say hi.

Hello!

Goth for life here - listen to about 50-50 goth and metal. I love the old stuff - Slayer, Iron Maiden, Metallica. Also love Devin Townsend, Avenged Sevenfold and Mastodon.

Checking in! Love metal/anything heavy but am a 90s grunger at heart. Favourite band is Alice in Chains.

I can definitely understand that. I've always had a soft spot for AIC. Layne Staley's voice was so unique.

FunkyMonks · 08/09/2023 20:24

Hi All love metal and rock music I really do enjoy a variety of music though not just metal
My favs would have to be
Type o negative remember getting into them at the age of 16/17 via Kerang never looked back.
Rob Zombie Mariyln Manson , Metallica, Rammstein Black sabbath Ozzy osbourne.

I will admit that my younger brother got me into Rob zombie and Rammstein he's always been a metal head at a young age and I would regularly be woken up on week mornings to him blasting various metal bands.

FunkyMonks · 08/09/2023 20:26

Forgot to mention slipknot as well but I'm also fortunate as my husband likes a variety of music and is also into metal bands so I'm getting to know about bands I'd never heard of before and that's good.
Went to my first download festival this year loved it and can't wait to go back next year.

Bellendula · 08/09/2023 20:28

I love heavy metal, all time favourites are Metallica, Faith No More, Guns N Roses, Alice in Chains, Pantera (cemetery gates a fantastic song) to name a few.
Their songs can actually be very beautiful and melodic not just thrashy noise!

I'd also love to hear new band recommendations as well as older bands that are less well known/more niche. I'm always happy to have a listen to something I haven't heard before. 🙂

Greydog · 08/09/2023 20:35

Motorhead, Alice Cooper, AC/DC

Cemetery Gates is my favourite 'Rap fan/classical musician/composer listens to Pantera for the first time' song. I've enjoyed a few videos of that.

Gahhhhereheisagain · 08/09/2023 20:37

@Bellendula fricking love Pantera! Also Down and Rebel meets Rebel (Dimes country band!)

LetMeEnfoldYou · 08/09/2023 20:42

@Maatandosiris I like Gojira, Sleep Token, Bad Omens in terms of newer bands.

CervixSampler · 08/09/2023 20:42

May I recommend The Virginmsrys. I knew them personally when they were first starting out. Toby Jepson of Littke Angels and now Wayward Sons produced their first album and I gave s photo of him hugging me at a semi-private gig😃. Danny is an awesome drummer as Ally really kicks ass on guitar and vocals. I might have their handwritten dedicated and signed song lyrics on my wall 🥰

Maatandosiris · 08/09/2023 20:48

@LetMeEnfoldYou and @CervixSampler thanks for the recommendations- will check them all out,

So great to meet like minded women

My favourite band is Metallica.
I've been to download 4 times, reading and Leeds, wacken in Germany and hellfest on France.
I feel a bit old to go to festivals now though but still love the music.

I have a varied range from within temptation and nightwish to blind guardian, to Metallica Megadeath and maiden.
An ex bf loved black metal so have seen a fair few bands like emperor and gorgoroth too which was quite an experience!

But Metallica have my heart :) I also love "normal music" -celine Dion being a personal fav.

Carsarelife · 08/09/2023 20:53

I love Maiden, Megadeth, Metallica in that order.

Gahhhhereheisagain · 08/09/2023 20:53

@Hungrycaterpillarsmummy same, I love all types of music. Funkadelic on at the moment!

Carsarelife · 08/09/2023 20:55

I went to see Iron Maiden at O2 in July and I'm 51 now.

Allthestories · 08/09/2023 20:55

I grew up listening to the heavy metal my much older brothers listened to very loundly in the 70s/80s. Still a fan now! Thanks for the thread

Knockon · 08/09/2023 20:57

Hello! I am absolutely a metal fan :)

I have been listening to metal for 20 years since I started high school, not soo much a fan of those 70s/80s bands but 90s/00s are my jam. Trying to listen to some new stuff since having my babies in the last five years and so dropping off of the music radar so have been trying a few recommendations from instagram. Current banger I’m enjoying Is feel invincible by skillet which has really seen me through a few runs recently! I just love working out to metal!!

mommalaulau · 08/09/2023 21:00

I wear my Korn, Slipknot and Iron Maiden tees to the school playground at the moment. The only thing I say is make sure they don't have unsuitable pictures on as some bands do (I wouldn't wear one with skulls on as might scare some kids).
That being said I wore my Korn one yesterday and one of the schools helpers complimented it and said they rock. Damn right 😂

Music is like a religion to me. I invest in decent headphones to zone out and blast some good metal. My kids are also realising the importance of music in general; my eldest listens to it before bed and my youngest has "twinkle twinkle Little Rock star" on Spotify as lullabies.

countdowntonap · 08/09/2023 21:00

Any Deftones fans?
