I just wanted to start a thread where fans can share their favourite things about George. Share video links, lyrics, rare footage. Tell us why you liked him. Have you met him? Share your memories. Anything really.

Please, no speculation about how he died here.

I bloody worshipped him from being about 12 years old. I remember liking Wham! music and hearing it at a youth club I went to, and then one day I saw his picture in my dad's Daily Star and it was LOVE! It was 1984.

I've just shared this clip on another thread, I think it's one of the sexiest performances I ever saw him do, I love the dance moves in this.

I have got so much stuff up in the loft, from newspaper cuttings to Wham The Final box set. So glad I could never bring myself to throw it out.

Awww, that duck is cute- I vaguely remember this from Smash hits.

I was just discussing today with DD how it was in the 80's when I was her age (she's 11) and how we idolised our chosen pop stars, whether you loved Duran, Wham, A-ha etc and you had their poster on your locker at school, and a picture in our keyring, and you couldn't wait for Smash Hits each week to read the latest interview. You knew their star sign, their height, the colour of their eyes, what their pet was called etc. You learnt their dance routines from their videos and reproduced them at the school disco. Kids don't seem to follow music in the same way. DD has songs she likes but doesn't really know who sings them, pop stars all seem so faceless these days, so manufactured.

Yes Fresta, I remember being like that about music growing up in the 80's. Such a different world now, music is just one option of many, and the people who are famous often are famous for no reason, so I just can't get interested. The music scene seems so fragmented, AND there's no TOTP! I cant remember who did which song mostly, they're so interchangeable. I wonder how it will change

Found this early interview.

They've finally taken the flowers away. Seems sad in a way, it's like someone's saying time to get over it, but they were probably annoying the neighbours a bitGrin <a class="break-all" href="https://www.google.co.uk/url?q=www.billboard.com/articles/news/magazine-feature/7647560/george-michael-freddie-mercury-elton-john-british-pop-empire&sa=U&ved=0ahUKEwi_p6Dyvd3RAhVBCsAKHTieBmsQqQIIPCgAMAc&sig2=lWHe3SBAsbm9cA4n8W-i0Q&usg=AFQjCNEA6_RhDlKXsCERXQVPkEgLtDnpvw" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">This is interesting, a good overview I think

Fresta · 26/01/2017 18:13

It still seems surreal to me that he's gone- I keep expecting him to pop up and declare it all a lie!

Know the feeling Fresta. It's Andrew's birthday today. Probably his first without George since he was 11 or so Sad

Destinysdaughter · 26/01/2017 19:18

I finally listened to his Desert Island Discs yesterday, he really was such a lovely guy. He said that he was such an honest person that he wouldn't even be able to dye his hair!

His favourite record was by Amy Winehouse and he was v sympathetic about her ( this was before she had died ) 😥❤️

LoveMySituation · 27/01/2017 14:51

I hope he and Amy are now able to sing together Sad I randomly found this version of Wham! Rap. Vaguely knew there were 2 versions. George says 'crap' in itGrin

Just listening to Radio 2 and Claudia was paying tribute to George, played CW. Set me off againSad Wish this was just a dream..

LoveMySituation · 29/01/2017 19:56

Other songs of his I prefer, but the 'now that you're gone' at the end has a new meaning now

Fresta · 30/01/2017 21:33

I love [ this]]. I love how Madge calls him a diva, did the know something we didn't at that time? Smile

Yep, that video (and that suit!) is one of my strongest defining memories of the 90's. In a way, it seems like yesterday. But then I realise more time has passed since then then the age I was thenGrin

LoveMySituation · 03/02/2017 12:14

Off topic, but I didn't want to start another thread. Someone else that went somewhere. The impression is uncannyGrin

Fresta · 04/02/2017 12:01

That's funny Love

Two clips I've been watching on Youtube.
The first is one I've never heard him do before which is cover of Tracy Chapman.
The second is from 2003 when he appeared on Richard and Judy. This one just sums up all the reasons I loved him. He was so brave to try to speak out against the war, I don't think he had anything personal to gain and he was so right, so intelligent, so articulate. The best bit for me though is around 16 mins into the clip where someone brings a tiny dog on- OMG, his face lights up, he's so adorable, moreso than the dog, so gentle and the way he gives it little kisses ...

Great clips Fresta. He was totally right about Iraq. Remember the song at the time. Had forgotten it samples the Human League Grin Thank you for starting this thread, there is no one in RL that I can talk to about him, and it's good to know someone is there.
I love this. The energy, the joy in this performance, its amazing to think he must have been dealing with his grief at Anselmo's death at the time. I was 15 then, where did the time go? He was there the whole time, the only constant I've ever hadSad I'm still so sad, but so grateful he was thereSmileSad

Destinysdaughter · 04/02/2017 22:10

If George was around now, I wonder what he'd be saying about Trump since he was so outspoken about Bush and Iraq?

Just one more reason to miss him. Sad

LoveMySituation · 05/02/2017 14:56

I don't imagine he would like him very much destiny Grin he would probably have a few 'alternative facts' of his own..

LoveMySituation · 05/02/2017 14:57

That would be true obviously Blush

LoveMySituation · 05/02/2017 15:34

I have to say, the way Theresa May is fawning over Trump re state visit is reminding me more and more of 'Shoot the dog' every dayHmm so maybe he'd have written another

Fresta · 09/02/2017 16:08

There's going to a tribute to George on the Grammy's on Sunday 12th Feb.

OMG, I think it's going to be sung by Adele, which should be amazing. I know George loved Adele too!
