Music that makes you cry when you just think about it, let alone listen to it?

Mine is the theme tune to the 70s tv series Black Beauty. The closing credits with the black horse galloping through the wheat field.

Sheesh, I am getting all silly just typing that.

I would definitely cry if I were to see/hear it.

Mintyy I am exactly the same about Black Beauty. I love watching the end credits but wish it stayed on long enough to hear the horse whinnying at the very end/

It reminds me of happy times when I was little Smile

Bring him home always makes me sob. They played it at this years Remembrance parade, and i and other people were crying

endlesstidying · 14/01/2014 21:11

Bright Eyes

Missisdoyle · 14/01/2014 21:11

'One day over the rainbow' never fails to get me weeping. 'Brighter than my northern sky', by Nick Drake. All of 'the boatman's call', by Nick Cave, especially 'Into my arms'( used to sing it to ds 1 to get him to sleep !)

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 14/01/2014 21:23

'Jessie' by Joshua Kadison. First heard it on the radio when on holiday with my ex and whenever I hear it I'm right back there. It's such a poignant song.

troubleinstore · 14/01/2014 21:28

Hurt - Christina Aguilera ..... it was so written for me and my now gone Mum ... the words just break my heart

troubleinstore · 14/01/2014 21:30

"Hurt"

Seems like it was yesterday when I saw your face
You told me how proud you were but I walked away
If only I knew what I know today
Ooh ooh

I would hold you in my arms
I would take the pain away
Thank you for all you've done
Forgive all your mistakes.

There's nothing I wouldn't do
To hear your voice again.
Sometimes I wanna call you but I know you won't be there

Oh, I'm sorry for blaming you for everything I just couldn't do
And I've hurt myself by hurting you

Some days I feel broke inside but I won't admit
Sometimes I just wanna hide 'cause it's you I miss
And it's so hard to say goodbye when it comes to this, ooh, whoa

Would you tell me I was wrong?
Would you help me understand?
Are you looking down upon me?
Are you proud of who I am?

There's nothing I wouldn't do
To have just one more chance
To look into your eyes and see you looking back

Oh, I'm sorry for blaming you for everything I just couldn't do
And I've hurt myself, oh, oh, oh.

If I had just one more day
I would tell you how much that I've missed you since you've been away

Oh, it's dangerous
It's so out of line
To try and turn back time

I'm sorry for blaming you for everything I just couldn't do
And I've hurt myself by hurting you

Sleepingbunnies · 14/01/2014 21:33

Leona Lewis run.

It was all over the radio when my darling niece was born sleeping 5 years ago :(

Layter · 14/01/2014 22:37

Peggy-oh by Simon and Garfunkel. I sang this to my newborn baby for the few days that she lived. I wanted her to hear cheerful and happy things and the song paints a picture of adventures and a life lived. Now when I think of the song I can remember her face more clearly.

Itsaburrdiee · 14/01/2014 22:44

Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton

winkywinkola · 14/01/2014 22:44

If you have faith - Labi Siffre

I'm not at all religious but he went through a lot and well, it's moving.

I won't give up by I don't know who and it's naff but I like it.

duckandcover · 14/01/2014 22:53

Baby Mine from Dumbo...uh-oh, here's a wobble...

LollipopViolet · 14/01/2014 23:02

For anyone who's not seen, these are the English lyrics for Time to Say Goodbye. I'd never read the English lyrics before, and I now think this song is even more beautiful. I should point out, I've just found these through Google, so can't vouch for their accuracy.

When I'm alone I dream of the horizon and words fail me.
There is no light in a room where there is no sun
and there is no sun if you're not here with me, with me.
From every window unfurls my heart the heart that you have won.
Into me you've poured the light,
the light that you found by the side of the road.

Time to say goodbye.
Places that I've never seen or experienced with you.
Now I shall, I'll sail with you upon ships across the seas,
seas that exist no more,
it's time to say goodbye.

Andrea Bocelli
When you're far away I dream of the horizon and words fail me.
And of course I know that you're with me, with me.
You, my moon, you are with me.
My sun, you're here with me with me, with me, with me.

Time to say goodbye.
Places that I've never seen or experienced with you.
Now I shall, I'll sail with you upon ships across the seas,
seas that exist no more,

Both
I'll revive them with you.
I'll go with you upon ships across the seas,
seas that exist no more,
I'll revive them with you.
I'll go with you.

You and me.

"We're All Alone"

By BOZ SCAGGS

Outside the rain begins
And it may never end
So cry no more on the shore
A dream will take us out to sea
Forevermore, forevermore

Close your eyes, Amie
And you can be with me
'Neath the waves, through the caves of ours
Long forgotten now
We're all alone, we're all alone

Close the window, calm the light
And it will be alright
No need to bother now
Let it out, let it all begin
Learn how to pretend

Once a story's told
It can't help but grow old
Roses do, lovers too
So cast your seasons to the wind
And hold me dear, oh hold me dear

Close the window, calm the light
And it will be alright
No need to bother now
Let it out, let it all begin
All's forgotten now
We're all alone, all alone

Close the window, calm the light
And it will be alright
No need to bother now
Let it out, let it all begin
Throw it to the wind, my love
Hold me dear

All's forgotten now, my love
We're all alone"

Not read all of the thread, only got so far before feeling more emotional than I want to feel at this moment. But mine would be:

Stone by Cyndi Lauper
When You Were Young, Killers
Any version of Hallelujah
Fields of Gold, Sting
Take On Me, Aha

Vidaloca · 14/01/2014 23:34

boz

Rita Coolidge had a big hit with this, but I prefer Boz Scagg's version (the original). The fact that he sounds a bit Kermit like just adds to the pathos to me. Such a beautiful song. I've got a lump in my throat now.

vladthedisorganised · 15/01/2014 09:57

And another..
Amy Winehouse's Back to Black. A lot of break-up songs from the woman's perspective are "screw you, I'll manage fine" (like You're So Vain or I Will Survive) but this one is really raw.

"He left no time to regret
Got his dick wet
With the same old same safe bet
Me with my head high
My tears run dry
Alone without my guy
We only said goodbye with words
I died a hundred times
You'll go on back to her and I'll go back to black.."

I have a tendency to sob "That bastard!" at that.

Another great heartbreak one is Blur's No Distance Left To Run. "I hope you're with someone who makes you feel safe when you're sleeping tonight.."
Sob!

No Distance Left to Run by Blur.

Most Adele songs (it's something about the quality of her voice)

Oh Yeah & Goldfinger by Ash (lost youth & innocence long gone

The Maiden's Lament (old folk song my mother used to sing)))

WithRedWine · 15/01/2014 11:51

The Last Post- all those poor soldiers.

Fix You -played at my Dads funeral

ExcuseTypos · 15/01/2014 12:02

Oh how could I forget Abba 'Slipping Through My Fingers'

"Waving goodbye with an absent-minded smile"

I have 2 DDs, 23 and 20, enough said.

roadwalker · 15/01/2014 12:04

Thousands are sailing. I like it by the pogues. My Dad lived in extreme poverty in Ireland and it hits me how many lived like that and the awful suffering
The other also makes me cry because of my Dad
Its Thank you for the days- Kirsty McCall version
I loved Kirsty. My Dad and Kirsty died in the same year and this song reminds me of my Dad who was great and very generous. He would help anyone
I am filling up now just thinking about these songs

Dillydollydaydream · 15/01/2014 12:34
