I've got coming up

Manic Street Preachers
Joe Bonamassa (Yeah!!)
Korn (double yeah!!)
Scissor Sisters
Skunk Anansie
Fun Lovin Criminals.
We are scientist
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
God Speed! You Black Emperor

What's everyone else up to?

upahill · 15/08/2010 00:33

Well I'll give it another go but I'm into Jane's Addiction (+ Perry Farrell's side projects such as porno for Pyros), Slayer, Dio, Korn, The vibrators, Metallica, CKY, Breed 77 and Soil.

I found stuff like Stockholm syndrome too dreary.

I must admit though I get the line 'Black Holes and revelations' driffting through my head after I hear it every now and again on Planet Rock!!

LyraSilvertongue · 15/08/2010 00:43

Well we have Jane's Addiction (I adore Nothing's Shocking and Ritual De Lo Habitual) and Metallica in common at least. I only know one Korn song (Coming Undone) but I love it. Maybe Muse aren't heavy enough for you? I don't know. I'll try to come up with some suggestions.

LyraSilvertongue · 15/08/2010 00:45

Do you like dramatic? Muse do dramatic very well. what about slow and melodic with gorgeous vocals?

LyraSilvertongue · 15/08/2010 00:48

Btw, the line 'black holes and revelations' only appears in Starlight, which is very poppy.
Did you watch the Knights of Cydonia video? Great stuff and great fun.

upahill · 15/08/2010 09:51

Ok!Ok!! Lyra I'll revist Muse with fresh eyes and ears!

I think I find Matt Bellamy's voice too whiney. (which is odd because I love Neil Young and Mark Lanegan who DH says are whiney and moaney!!)

OP posts:
LyraSilvertongue · 15/08/2010 12:41

There's very little whineyness on their latest album. Try MK Ultra and Unnatural Selection (from The Resistance), you can listen on the media player on their website www.muse.mu

maddiemostmerry · 16/08/2010 19:23

Oh dear, no email re Muse Shock

I remember looking, but I don't remember booking!

Enjoy, all those that are going to showsGrin

LyraSilvertongue · 16/08/2010 20:16

Maddie, have you broken the news to your son yet Confused
Which date do you think you might have bought for? I've received my tickets for the 10th but I haven't even had an email yet about my tickets for the 11th.

upahill · 16/08/2010 20:47

Maddie, I'm guessing it is a sold out show (unlike some of the ones I go to and they can't give tickets away Grin I'm sorry that's really bad for you

Lyra
Ok an update.

I loaded the tunes from youtube and put them on my iPod so I could listen to them again while I was out and about in the car.

I like the beat on Uprising but not the singing.
Can't stand Starlight Never have done.
I do like Dead Star and it is probably the only one I will keep on the pod.
I liked the spoof spag western vid for Knights of Cydonia but not the song.

I rememeber watching Stockholm Syndrome on VH1 years ago at work and finding it whiney. I think it was that song that really turned me off to them.

I replayed tracks of Hullabaloo and there were a couple I liked but I don't know which ones yet because I did my usual 'get to know an album' by having it on in the background and then something grabs me and I have to go back and listen. (Every track on the relatively new Slash Album did this to me)

I'm trying Lyra, I'm really trying!!!!

OP posts:
LyraSilvertongue · 16/08/2010 21:27

Ok, enough, I'm not going to force you to like them Grin.
Tbh, if you don't like Matt's voice then you'll never like them that much.
You can't say I didn't try though Grin. I'm on a mission to convert everyone I know/meet, just like a born-again Christian Grin

upahill · 16/08/2010 22:22

Fair play Lyra you gave it your best shot!!

The male singers I like are
Ian Astbury
Bruce Dickinson
Ronnie James Dio (RIP)
Ozzy
Derron Miller
Fish (not when he is doing Kayleigh or Lavender though. He does angst best!)

I love Neil Young and Jonathon Davies.

Apart from Matt Bellamy who else do you like vocal wise?

OP posts:
LyraSilvertongue · 16/08/2010 22:42

Well, to my ears Matt's voice is perfect in every way, it's one of the main reasons I love Muse so much.
Other than him, singers I have loved include:

Kurt Cobain
Anthony Kiedis
James Hetfield
Morrissey
Chris Cornell
Adam Ant (Blush)
Perry Farrell
Tori Amos
Simon Neil (Biffy Clyro)
Damon Albarn
Mike Patton
Axl Rose
Caleb Followill
Lenny Kravitz

and, um, I can't think of any more right now. Fairly broad mix there, I think.

upahill · 16/08/2010 22:50

Well out of your list the only one I don't like is Damon Albarn.

I love love love Perry Farrell and as much as I like Anthony Kieldis I find RHCP are either incredibly fantastic or total shite!! ( I'm thinking Zepher and Snow wey feckin oh in the shite category)

So generally speaking it seems that Matt is our stick in the works!! Grin

OP posts:
LyraSilvertongue · 16/08/2010 23:26

Kiedis is a bit hit and miss isn't he (btw Universally Speaking has to be their worst song by a country mile). I saw them at Earls Court in 2006 and they were terrible. I saw them quite a few years before at the Brixton Academy and they were amazing.
So, we like a lot of the same singers so we should either both love or both hate Bellamy's voice. Funny isn't it Grin

upahill · 13/09/2010 12:48

Anything new Anybody?????

I saw the Fun lovin Criminals last week and they were ok. Not fantastic not bad just ok.

OP posts:
maddiemostmerry · 13/09/2010 20:09

Kings of Leon in DecGrin

Ps son did get to see Muse at Wembley on Sat.

LyraSilvertongue · 13/09/2010 20:20

Not a lot. Muse at Wembley is done and dusted, so now just I Am Arrows next Friday, then I've got Paul Weller tickets for December but I think I'm going to sell them and buy Biffy Clyro tickets instead. Nothing else on the horizon.

DanceInTheDark · 13/09/2010 20:36

Jst found I Am Arrows on spotify thanks to this thread! Anything else new i should listen to?!

LyraSilvertongue · 13/09/2010 20:52

I started a thread for people to post vids of their new favourite bands. You could try there for some ideas.

upahill · 13/09/2010 22:00

I liked your thread about new bands Lyra. I haven't had anything to add to it though Sad As you can see from my list the stuff that I mainly like are well established!!

I do like I am arrows though I was never a huge Razzorlight fan!

I still 'try' to get into Muse every now and then!!!

podmumlet · 13/09/2010 22:21

New to this thread - so, hello :)

I am going to an Underworld gig in November.
Saw them headlining at the Glade festival last year, and loved it!! Really looking forward to it...

(P.S. Had the option of getting some Muse tickets from a friend for Saturday, but I've pinched a nerve and it really wasn't going to be fun if I went... Next time maybe :) )

upahill · 14/09/2010 08:30

Hi Podmum Lyra is going to be dissapointed you won't make the Muse gig. She likes to convert people to the sounds of all things Muse! Grin

OP posts:
2shoes · 14/09/2010 08:31

oh Did I not post that on November 7th I will be seeing
Avenged Sevenfold and Stone Sour:o

upahill · 14/09/2010 08:38

That's going to be Mega 2shoes. Where are you seeing them?

Stone Sour get quite a bit of air play on Planet Rock.

I love Avenged Sevnold but haven't seen them yet.

OP posts:
2shoes · 14/09/2010 08:40
