Means testing PIP would mean penalising disabled and unwell people for having savings or a successful career.

The whole point of PIP was to try to level the playing field because being disabled and/or having serious health conditions are expensive.

It isn't out of work or low income support.

Means testing leads to the same people getting all the benefits and the same people losing out. Often with low arbitrary cut off points too.

Sorry i dont know how to do links off an app. But looks like it might not go through up to 100 labour MPs now.

PIP cuts- what happens next?
TheAutumnCrow · 24/06/2025 08:42

David Maddox reporting the same (Independent) - 100 MPs may rebel.

Maddox has usually got good sources in Parliament.

Also if they are married, would that mean that they take the spouses income into account as well? That would have ramifications alone.

What a mess.

They’d then also have to means test Attendance Allowance and DLA and I don’t think any government wants the optics of going after ill pensioners and disabled children.

Look at the debacle over the Winter Fuel Payment.

Other benefits are means tested on household income. I say PIP should not be available for anxiety and depression. I read that is why the cost is now out of control.

Orangesandlemons77 · 24/06/2025 09:30

Why in particular anxiety and depression, they can be debilitating for some people?

Looks like the vote may not go ahead then? I read that the conservatives are still considering how to vote- could they vote for it and put a spanner in the works perhaps?

Last I heard 108 MPs have voted no

Whilst there does need to be reform they're planning to do it wrong

Definitely, it seems like they have made it worse by the way they have done it, refusing to do consultations with disabled people and the ridiculous 'concession' of giving people a few more weeks benefits.

Just shows how out of touch they are.

What would happen if the conservatives decide to be contrary and vote it through though, could it still go ahead, or will this amendment stop the vote happening, does anyone know?

I read that the Moon was made of cheese. I was very sad when, I found out that it was a lie!

Orangesandlemons77 · 24/06/2025 10:00

There are 120 conservative MPs so could that balance out the Labour ones who are saying no?

Hopefully it might just not go ahead..

Tories will vote against as Badenoch says the changes don't go far enough.

Those most likely to lose out under the new measures are people over 30 with physical disabilities. And women.

What do they mean don't go far enough? They brought PIP in. Wonder what changes they would make then, sounds worrying!

We've gone through it already and she doesn't listen. A bit like the government really

Well they will listen when Reform gets more votes. It's old Labour Jeremy Corbyn all over again. If benefit payments go on increasing then cost of living rises, more taxes. Working folk on average or lower pay taxed more. It's like groundhog day.

Orangesandlemons77 · 24/06/2025 11:35

VivienneMary maybe you need to make your own post, perhaps in AIBU?

This is the area for disabled mums netters who are worried, and the title is about what will happen next regarding the cuts

Rather than a general debate about the cuts are needed etc, which we have already covered, as to who will mainly suffer.
