Does anyone think there is still a chance it could get voted down?

bestcatlife · 27/06/2025 08:17

*that MPs will vote against?

PandoraSocks · 27/06/2025 08:22

Sadly, it will go through now. Meg Hillier, who instigated the rebellion, has said the compromise is acceptable.

Not a chance, no. I'd like to be wrong but I do not believe I am.

bestcatlife · 27/06/2025 08:25

So we will see a surge in new claims up until November 2026.

Dropthepilots · 27/06/2025 08:27

@bestcatlife I think the bill will pass now, ultimately the rebel MPs don’t want to damage the government anymore than necessary.

Miley23 · 27/06/2025 08:36

Dropthepilots · 27/06/2025 08:03

@PandoraSocks so for e.g. I am due for renewal in 2026, and at the renewal assessment the 4 point rule won’t be applied? But someone else who only applies for the first time in 2026 will have the new rule applied?

Yes it will create a shocking two tier system.

Miley23 · 27/06/2025 08:38

bestcatlife · 27/06/2025 08:25

Yes absolutely this will be the case. So many applications already but now they will really surge. Unless they change things and bring it forward from next November, I wouldn't put this past them.

bestcatlife · 27/06/2025 08:40

I don't trust them at all (or indeed any government). It's a shame that LCWRA won't be there in the future - I hoped they might keep this as it is and not link it to PIP. It's kicking the can down the road

justkeepswimingswiming · 27/06/2025 08:51

its ridiculous though that those on a current claim say with cancer can get it now, but those diagnosed with cancer after november 2026 wont be entitled. I can see them being taken to court for this.
and why is nobody speaking up for the under 22s who wont get LWRCA? It’s ludicrousz

justkeepswimingswiming · 27/06/2025 08:59

See this bit about new claimaints who meet the severe conditions criterea what is the criterea?
my son is 14 and has a learning disability he wont be able to work.. would he be counted as a new claimaint with severe conditions therefore protected? They arent being clear!

PIP cuts- what happens next?

I think it is likely (but nobody knows for sure) that he will be treated as a new claim in his own right as an adult. But right now don't panic becase a lot can change in the next week, never mind the next four years or so. And bad though this all may be, it is still the case that there will be benefits for people with disabilities who really can't work. Our job is to not drop the ball and continue the fight for a fairer system for everyone, not see this as the end of the fight with an inadequate result.

justkeepswimingswiming · 27/06/2025 09:24

@PhilippaGeorgiouunder the new rules hed be on LWCA but not LWRCA so wouldnt get the money top up till 22. I know hed get the 4 point rule for pip as he cant even tell the time let alone manage money or socialise but I am panicking as it leaves many kids like mine with nothing. Yes he wont have to job search but its age discrimination not giving him the lwrca top up because of his age when they know he wont work. Its shocking and im really angry these MPs have backed down and agreed. This changes nothing, if someone looses their PIP it will be treated as a new claim therefore the 4 points rule will then apply. Its sneaky! Its just a more sly way of taking people off pip.

justkeepswimingswiming · 27/06/2025 09:26

Sorry im just ranting it probably doesnt even make much sense as I feel like labour have truly chucked us all under the bus and im not even one of those at risk of loosing their award. I hate this goverment, i voted for labour and i am so ashamed that im one of those who put these tossers into power.

bestcatlife · 27/06/2025 09:33

I voted Labour too. I'll probably never vote again, I've lost trust in all governments

Orangesandlemons77 · 27/06/2025 09:37

I have noticed some MPs say they are still going to vote against it, presumably the other parties will also so I wonder if they will still have enough numbers for it to pass.

I dont think ill vote again either, not unless Cobryn makes his own party.
its depressing that these are our only options.

Bridget57 · 27/06/2025 10:03

What's the betting that when all the existing claimants submit their next review they'll get turned down for PIP, turned down at MR and tribunal (that's if they have the strength to go that far). Then, they will have to reapply and be treated as new claimants, they won't even get that 13 week concession that was being waved around as I bet that'll be off the table now, it's win win all round for the government!

Pixiedust1234 · 27/06/2025 10:04

Thanks for this discussion, I've been reading quietly in the background. I think I'm "safe" regarding PIP going forwards but I'm starting to panic about the LWRCA bit as I've not started the UC process (still in middle of divorce complications so can't). Not sure how I'm going to pay the bills/eat without that. I'm going from despair to anger to disbelief and back again. I know I can't work as my multiple conditions fluctuate too much and it's a rare day when they all align into a good day and I can do normal things.

StrokeCity · 27/06/2025 10:10

PandoraSocks · 27/06/2025 08:16

I think the devil will be in the detail, too.

What happens if there is a break in a person's PIP claim because they go into hospital, or delay renewing etc? Will they be treated as having made a new claim, and the four point rule applied?

And for those of us who were awarded at Tribunal, there are no reviews, as far as I know we all have to make new claims when the award runs out. So everyone awarded at Tribunal will be affected too

I have won at tribunal before the they do review it like any other award. Unless I think it is a short one of 18 months where you have to apply again, not sure if that would then be treated as a new claim or not..

@Orangesandlemons77 Oh that's great to hear thanks, I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's the case when mine runs out

I feel ashamed to have voted labour too but really what was the alternative. They are all as bad, tories would have been as bad if not worse.

TigerRag · 27/06/2025 11:03

I feel the same re: labour. Tried to vote who I thought was the less evil one. But I was rather naive to think they couldn't be any worse than the tories

Bridget57 · 27/06/2025 12:53

I've voted Labour all my life but I'm absolutely disgusted with them. Our local Labour councillor didn't even bother canvassing round here last time, as apparently he'd got so much stick about benefit changes, he knew he was wasting his time. Our local MP is the speaker of the house, a (previously) very popular "local lad" who is now definitely not as well loved in Chorley as he used to be. Sadly, most of them are in it for themselves. I still think PIP assessors will be told to stop existing claimants PIP at review, certainly for people who only receive standard daily rate, then we'll all eventually become new claimants and none of us will get it.
