Yet another thread for neurodivergent mumsnetters.

Lots of links in old threads.

Anyone is welcome, it's not just about autism.

I took my Kindle just in case but DS2 wanted to move around far too much for me to really read it (there are two rooms and an outdoor area so I need to follow him around a bit).

I think a few people who have given me the, 'He doesn't seem autistic to me; why do you think that??' treatment might have realised why I think he's autistic today.

When they had lunch his hand was sticky and he decided he couldn't hold his water bottle when his hand was sticky...but he wouldn't let me clean his hands. A broken water bottle and some time under the table later he came out just as everyone else was going through to do singing. He refused, though, because he only goes to singing after lunch and he hadn't eaten his lunch. So, he sat at the table alone eating his lunch whilst everyone else was next door singing.

I'll write my history and philosophy assignments over half-term if you sort out your application. Deal?

autisticrat · 20/10/2016 16:55

It's not quite a PhD, but I need my arse kicking anyway Grin

HerSpookyFattyness · 20/10/2016 16:56

Well done for going BDH. I've tried one group. It was horrid. I never went again.

polter nope, no PhD here.

HerSpookyFattyness · 20/10/2016 16:56

But if you apply, and rat Does her assignments, I'll do my safeguarding assignment.

Polter, I'll admit I have a slight ulterior motive for going. From getting a diagnosis for DS1 I know they'll ask me how often DS2 socialises with other children and will want to play the 'wait and see' game if it's not often.

This way I can note down how he interacts with other children (he doesn't) and adults (he hides his face).

autisticrat · 20/10/2016 17:14

Super! Mine is the Monday after that.

BDH, my mum was asked to answer some questions before my assessment, so she racked her quarter-century-old memories for details. With questions about playgroups etc., she had nothing, because she couldn't cope with taking us to those kinds of things - dozens of loud children, socialising with other mothers, etc. - so she didn't take me or my brother to them. We all dodged a bullet there, I think Grin

autisticrat · 20/10/2016 17:15

My mum's had a lifelong interest in autism…

PigPigTrotters · 20/10/2016 17:16

I'm happy to dish out plenty of arse-kickings. Grin

If you lot do your assignments and applications, I'll ring up about a degree I'm interested in and think carefully about financing it. Not quite go the deadline going for it I know, but I'm with you on the procrastinating front.

She never suspected anything in either me or my brother. We behaved entirely normally and rationally, from her point of view.

She now believes she probably has ASD too (surprise!) - apparently when my diagnosis came through and had had time to settle a bit, she tentatively asked my dad (a GP) if he thought she maybe had some traits too, and he was like, "um, yes…"

autisticrat · 20/10/2016 17:21

Great! A mutual arse-kicking group. You're all on Grin

Seriously, good luck with the application Polter!

(Can I call you Polty? No? :( Okay then.) Wink

HerSpookyFattyness · 20/10/2016 17:26

I have just been given a case to prepare for tomorrow so also in need of arse-kicking. Obviously with a deadline of tomorrow and 200 pages to read and prep I'm on MN procrastinating.

This is me and deadlines Every. Single. Time. ARGH. Blush

CrohnicallyPregnant · 20/10/2016 19:34

Now, I'd be ok with a deadline of tomorrow. However, given a deadline of next week I will 'do it tomorrow' until the deadline really is tomorrow.

When I was at uni I had to give myself mini deadlines (read sources by X date, write notes summarising by Y date, write 1st draft by Z date) and worked with a friend to check each other's work and give each other the required arse-kicks.

autisticrat · 20/10/2016 19:52

ratty is fine Grin

HerSpookyFattyness · 20/10/2016 19:54

crohn I have to have specific dates to do things so they actually get done.

DS1 was playing out tonight and got punched and hurt and called names off an older kid. DP was here so he went round to the kids house to tell his mum, but she had nipped to garage. A neighbour was out and told him. So he told the neighbour what had happened. Hopefully it gets back to his mum and she deals with it.
DS1 is now saying he doesn't want to play out anymore Sad

SwearyInn · 20/10/2016 20:05

Hi polter. I have a PhD but it was many moons ago and I'm now sure I can help you much. I do work in academic environment now, but not as an academic

Ohmuther · 20/10/2016 20:16

Ooo Polter I'd love to do a PhD, done MA & PGDip, but then life got in the way. ATM study would finish me off as I don't have the capacity but I keep finding myself gazing longingly at Uni webpages.... Smile
