Yet another thread for neurodivergent mumsnetters.

Lots of links in old threads.

Anyone is welcome, it's not just about autism.

I gained a lot of weight on antipsychotic drugs, which I was on for a few years. I stopped, and dropped naturally down to 18 stone where I stayed. When a few years later I was diagnosed with diabetes, I spent a year on a 1200kcal LCHF diet (15%-25% calories from carbs) and ended up at 10 stone 10. Gradually put on a stone and a half over the course of the year after that, but have just spent the last 6 months getting most of that off again.

Looked like this (note: slightly spergy hand position - how did nobody notice? Grin)

Weightloss is fucking hard; it's a constant struggle.

You should definitely be proud of yourself! Flowers

autisticrat · 02/11/2016 16:38

Thanks… I mostly just feel shame about it Blush but I try to be open because I know it seems impossible, and I thought it was impossible, but I want people to know it is possible. I hate the years' worth of holiday pictures and family snaps that I can't show anyone (except internet strangers) because when I look at them I feel bad. And inside my head, I still look like that. In my head I'm fatter than everyone.

Oh, also, I did a lot of gym, walking, and, later, running, but then I was hypomanic at the time, which really helped. It's stopping the exercise that has let that stone creep back on, but I can't run any more as my knee is buggered Grin No excuse for the gym, tho…

autisticrat · 02/11/2016 16:40

Weightloss companies never show you naked "after" photos… people would scream in terror at the drooping skin and swear never to lose weight.

HerRoyalFattyness · 02/11/2016 16:41

See I think that's my problem. I used to do lots and lots of walking, but my pelvis and hips are knackered and I end up in a lot of pain if I try to do too much.

autisticrat · 02/11/2016 16:45

Yes, lack of exercise means you've got less muscle mass, for one thing. I'm fatter now than when I was the same weight and running, because more of me was muscle then. With knackered hips it's got to be really hard to get fitter :(

I'm wondering what my social and cultural signifiers are, now Grin What messages are we all sending with our hair, without even realising it??!

HerRoyalFattyness · 02/11/2016 16:49

I have really long hair. I wonder what that means other than I'm scared of having it cut because it's always been long and I would look weird.

autisticrat · 02/11/2016 16:49

Sorry, I seem to have taken over the thread a bit whining about being mistaken for a man and complaining about being fat Grin

autisticrat · 02/11/2016 16:50

It's freeing, HRF! But if it's not you, then it's not you :)

HerRoyalFattyness · 02/11/2016 16:51

I use my hair as a comforter too. I play with it a lot.

PigPigTrotters · 02/11/2016 17:02

Rat, well done!
I have no idea how much I weigh, but I'm much bigger than you HRF.
I've been low carbing for a month, but I don't think I've lost anything, although my face looks a bit more haggard!
I used to love being mistaken for a boy when I was younger, I used to want to be called Jeremy Grin

HerRoyalFattyness · 02/11/2016 17:11

Jeremy is brilliant Grin

PigPigTrotters · 02/11/2016 17:19

I know, I have better taste now!
I think it was after the crow in the Rats of NIMH (if I'm remembering right?). He was an early hero.

PigPigTrotters · 02/11/2016 17:23

I love the book and the cartoon. When I was younger I thought Timmy was a terrible wuss, having seen it as an adult I feel guilty for my younger self.

I'm not sure it's cultured, it was cheap at the video rent shop.
Charlotte's web was another film I loved, although Templeton gave me the creeps.

autisticrat · 02/11/2016 17:32

When my dad went to the video shop, I always asked for Bedknobs and Broomsticks. Every time. My parents would have saved a fortune if they'd just bought a copy Grin

HerRoyalFattyness · 02/11/2016 17:39

Bedknobs and broomsticks is one of my favourite films. Grin
My DB had an obsession with titanic when he was younger Confused

PigPigTrotters · 02/11/2016 17:41

I love Bedknobs and Broomsticks 😍

Will catch up shorty, had to take dd2 to minor injuries this evening. She fell over whilst holding my hand and ended up with a 'pulled elbow' the nurse said its actually very common and that she did the same with one of her children. I was so worried she had a broken wrist or something and I was in bits as I felt like it was my fault. She's absolutely fine now but I'm so worn out from the drama. Second time in a few months we've taken her down there so I was worried about how that would look to them too, ridiculous really.

PigPigTrotters · 02/11/2016 18:32

Hope she's ok Delete Flowers
