Continuing the good work of the lovely EauRouge :) Our first thread in the shiny new section. Seems like they created it just in time for us to fill up the old one Grin

Link to the previous thread

This is a support thread for any posters who feel that they might be (or know that they are) on the Autistic spectrum or have ADHD. Feel free to jump in! Some of us are diagnosed, some not, some trying to work out what it's all about. Women with these kinds of issues often present differently to men and as such, can go undiagnosed for a long time. Hopefully, we can help each other understand ourselves and be there for support along the way too.

Links

List of female AS traits by Tania Marshall

AS traits in women and girls by Everyday Aspergers

Musings of an Aspie - Cynthia Kim's blog (Noted as being one of the only sources of information about being a parent with Aspergers)

Autistic Women's Collective

Women with ADHD by ADDitude magazine - this is a really good website in general (though it really needs a redesign). Lots of good, well researched info on ADHD and especially ADHD in women and girls. Do follow the links to other articles. They also have a closed facebook group which is good for info (FB is down so can't put the link up.)

Books
Aspergirls by Rudy Simone

You Mean I'm Not Lazy, Stupid Or Crazy?!: A Self-help Book for Adults with Attention Deficit Disorder by Kate Kelly. (This is available as a PDF somewhere online but I can't find it now - sorry!)

Speakers

This is a new one but it's something I've found really helpful so I hope nobody minds me adding it. I won't link directly to videos because they show up in the thread, but worth searching youtube/Ted/google:

Russell Barkley: Clinical Psychologist who specialises in the subject area of ADHD. He explains it better than anybody else I have come across and has practical solutions to support life with it. He is VERY long-winded, but his talks are packed with info. Highly recommend.

Ned Hallowell: Another psychologist who actually lives with ADHD himself and has interesting insights. Author of the book "The ADHD effect on marriage". He is a little bit cheesy but worth a watch.

Sorry I only have ADHD links to put here but if anybody knows a good ASC speaker, feel free to add!

Online quizzes

Of course no online quiz is sufficient for diagnosis, but can be a useful signposting tool and a starting point for discussion with your GP.

Then becoming 081 811 8055
Which were Going Live.

I'm very good at phone numbers.
It's one of my things.

Gumblebee · 03/10/2015 21:35

I think Capaldi is my favourite Blush He's had some bad stories, that's all.

Granted, she's not great, but I'm getting used to her. I prefer it when there are two assistants/companions. Haven't had a male one since Rory, have we?

nickelbabe · 03/10/2015 21:40

I can't watch dr who tonight anyway because I'm trying a new technique called "get child and me to bed early " while dh is away, and the digibox packed in the day before yesterday, so it's dvds only in bed.

I liked Dr who in the Sylvester McCoy days, but haven't had the chance to watch recently, children with low scare thresholds prevents, sadly.

Yes, Peter Davidson was dreadful as Dr who, often wondered how you go from being a fairly inept vet to being a timelord :o Very annoying!
I didn't like Christopher Ecclestone because of Shallow Grave, always found him creepy after that.
I liked David Tennant, but never got to watch.

My dc won't even watch Harry Potter as it's too scary!

I love that you have 3 tardis's in your loft :o

Gumblebee · 03/10/2015 22:28

My least favourite is Patrick Troughton.

(I don't count any of the films.)

LeChien · 03/10/2015 22:36

I didn't like John Pertwee as Dr Who because he was Worzel Gummidge. Starting to see a pattern here.....

QueenPigSmoothCheeks · 03/10/2015 22:39

Tom Baker. Absolute God.

Yep - was an excellent doctor.

I also loved the bad wolf story line.

Currently, I dislike the magic sunglasses. I want the sonic screwdriver back.

Dr Who is British - he would not fall prey to such fripperies as Google glass. He can tell the time by the age/coolness of tea for crying out loud!

Gumblebee · 04/10/2015 11:39

Tom Baker MADE Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased) - he pretty much just reprised his role as the Doctor Grin

I loved his recent DW appearance. If I cried at media, i would've cried at that.

rivierliedje · 04/10/2015 12:23

I think I messed up socially yesterday, but I'm not sure.
I went to a housewarming party. And a few days before hand a friend texted me to ask if I wanted to go to ikea with her to pick up a present. I said yes at first, but then it didn't work out with the train timetables. I forgot about that and went to get a last minute present on the way to the train station. While I was on the train the same friend texted me to ask my opinion on present options. SO then I though, oh we are going in together. My train was very late, so I was last to arrive and as I thought, now we've gone in together, I thought it be weird to then hand over another present, so didn't. Nothing was said. On my way home I thought I should text the friend to ask her how much I owed her, but realised she'd never actually said would I like to buy a present together. So now wondering if I've been really rude to the housewarming host? Or should I just risk it and ask the friend how much I owe her?

So confused.

Gumblebee · 04/10/2015 12:50

I'm not surprised, it sounds confusing! Could you text your friend saying something grovelly like, "So sorry for the mix-up, got really confused! I can't remember if we said we were going halves on a present or not - do I owe you or did we decide to do separate things? Sorry again!"

I'm shit at this sort of thing tho Grin My sympathies.
