- How did you use Uniqlo’s AIRism sanitary shorts during the test?
What do you think about how they fit in with your lifestyle?
I used one pair on the first night (light and then the sudden excitingly heavy flow); used with my usual ‘night’ pad.
I used the other pair on the second day (very heavy flow); used with my usual ‘night’ pad. Lot of sitting and moving around on this day.
Having these to use at these times was brilliant as they stopped leaks and gave me a real sense of security.
The night-time heavy flow normally has me jumping out of bed every couple of hours, either as it’s leaking or could be about to, and normally it leaks out the front and also up/out the back, onto undersheets/duvet covers/the duvet.
I slept a bit better as I felt much more secure. Nothing leaked and I wasn’t changing pyjama trousers or scrubbing sheets at 4am!
I also hate having to go out for the day on the heavy day and normally wear several layers in case of leaks. I didn’t wear the layers on this day, and still no leaks! A bit less ‘going to check’ as well as I felt more ‘locked in’.
I didn’t wash and reuse them in time for latter days.
I was surprised they could be put in a washing machine and kept checking the packet/the shorts!
I don’t do many delicate washes and had nothing else to go in; it wouldn’t have been environmentally friendly.
- What did you like about Uniqlo’s AIRism sanitary shorts?
Mine were black (wouldn’t have liked the pink ones so much). They fitted perfectly.
Yes they are huge, but so are my usual period pants. These are satin smooth and big enough to hold my stomach in a bit too, making me feel sleeker and less of a sack than I normally do (even with huge pads in). They felt nice to be wearing and worked great under clothes.
I was reassured to see how big the pad was (to the front and practically all over the back), and they were a lovely secure fit. I felt a lot more confident sleeping and moving!
- What advice would you share with others considering trying Uniqlo’s AIRism sanitary shorts?
Might take a moment to fit in with your current routines (eg when you do your washing).
(If you use without a pad, you have to rinse first before putting in a washing machine, and they want a no spin etc wash).
Have spare knickers/pads with you as you try them out, just in case.
They can be used alone or with a pad (packet says this), so it’s determining when they will be of most use.
If you want to use with pads, you’d probably need pads with wings (rather than without) (packet does say this) (I’m not sure a non-wings one would stay on due to the fit of the shorts).
Measure carefully – I’m presume you can’t return them if the size is wrong.
Definitely give them a go though – I’m glad I did.
- What are your thoughts about how the sanitary shorts performed?
Will you continue to use your Uniqlo sanitary shorts?
Great to have an opportunity to test them; I wouldn’t normally be able to spend out that much money on something new in case it doesn’t work.
Uniqlo; are there plastic strips on the gusset (can’t remember!), ie so you can return if don’t fit?
Thoughts on how performed; as Q1. In summary; having these to use at these heavy times was brilliant as they stopped leaks and gave me a real sense of security.
I haven’t washed yet so will be curious to see how they wash.
Uniqlo; the fact they need a no-spin wash etc is only printed inside the shorts, not on the packet: could this be added? Packet says re rinsing first and in a laundry net, but not the temperate/the wash-cycle symbol.
I will definitely keep using them on the heavy day/night; brilliant result!
I am curious to see what using them without a pad is like on lighter days.
However;
I am not sure if will use them during the rest of my period.
I normally like panty liners in knickers so would I like to wear the same pair of pants all day? I might try it though!
Obviously some people use these to be more environmentally friendly (to save disposable pads). However the washing in different loads (unless you had 5-6 or washed other things on a delicate cycle) would outweigh this a bit. I’d have to do a rare delicate wash and then do another wash a couple of days later.
(I will however be able to wash less clothes layers and sheets!)
I’d like to save money on sanitary towels so again, might try without pads on lighter days.
If I wasn’t 47 (and at this point, who knows what period will come and when!!), I would invest in some more so could use them all week and wash all at the end.
