This is the feedback thread for the 200 Mumsnet users who have been testing Klearvol essential oil inhalation capsules. This product test was open to all MNers with at least one child aged over 3 months to 12 years old.

I used the Klearvol capsules on a cloth beside by daughter's bed.

The Klearvol capsules came at a good time, as my daughter developed the sniffles after starting school. She couldnt sleep properly so the Klearvol helped with her breathing. It was something that I know reassured her. To be honest, all my children get colds during term time so the Klearvol will come in handy in due course.

I liked them. I thought the individual capsules were a handy way of using the product. Probably not environmentally friendly though. I liked the added essential oils and smell which was'nt too overpowering for children but still effective.

The handy individual capsules, handy for travelling. I like the natural smell with the essential oils.

Yes, I think that Klearvol does provide soothing natural vapours. It worked for my daughter so that is enough for me!

On a muslin cloth, actually for myself and OH! Our LO hasn’t been I’ll, but we’ve both had the sniffles and a stuffy nose. So we’ve put the drops on a muslin cloth near our pillows.

1. When did you use the inhalation capsules? How many times a year do you think you would need to use Klearvol inhalation capsules?

We have been using them at night for the last three nights. I think we would probably use them several time’s a year.

1. What did you think of Klearvol inhalation capsules?

Effective decongestant and a comforting smell. Would like to see the product sold in a bottle with dropper, I’m not sure finding scissors in the middle of the night would be much fun. I also found that when cutting the capsules I sometimes got the oil on my fingers-a bit of wastage product wise and also runs the risk of irritation of the skin I suppose.

How effective and comforting the smell is. We have found ourselves reaching for this over a competitors product because of the smell. Although, on one occasion, when in a rush, we used the competitors product as it was in a glass bottle and was quicker to dispense.

Yes, very soothing. OH particularly loves them. Great to have in the cupboard for all the family it seems!

We tried on a muslin out of reach, in a diffuser and on a tissue out of reach.

With having a cold they had a capsule for a couple of nights. Would use something for every cold.

I thought there was a lot of waste for the very small amount of product actually used. This would put me off buying them. They were also fidly, either getting solution on my fingers or losing the top when it was cut. My 4 year old wanted to help as it looked fun, this worries me slightly. They are expensive, and the smell doesn't last all night.

The smell was nice, the individual nature of the dose was interesting, but not enough to make me chose this over similar products.

It was nice, not sure what you mean by smoothing. It helped clear noses to sleep well at night, but didn't help them calm down at bed time.

3. What did you think of Klearvol inhalation capsules? They're a bit messy when you open them, they should've made them snap open. Smell like vicks vapour rub so I like the smell. Cleared my nose but made me nauseous.

I used the drops last week when my daughter was a bit sniffly after the return to school. We used them for one night. I would usually have used Olbas drops.

1. I applied the capsule to a tissue then slipped it inside the pillow case.

1. I used a capsule each for myself and middle DD when we had a blocked nose although the packet or instructions don't actually say what it can be used for other than it's soothing.

I would use them anytime we had a cold.

1. The capsules are handy to keep in your handbag or for use on holiday etc.

We all thought they smelt lovely but not as strong as I was expecting. I wonder wether they would stain if you applied directly to a pillow case.

1. I liked how portable the capsules are and the smell reminded me of using Karvol when I was a child.

All in all I'm really glad I was able to try them but not sure I'd pay over £4 for a pack of 10 capsules.

A few nights for each cold/sniffle would soon add up over the year so I think we could go through 2-4 packs

As soon as I smelled them it brought back memories - sure enough my parents confirmed using them when I couldn’t sleep with colds when I was young! A comforting but not overpowering scent that helps breathing when stuffy. Easy and convenient to use, I like them and so do the kids

I applied to a muslin cloth that I then tied to the side of the cot.

I’ve used them for 3 nights in a row. Ended up using 2 capsules a night so would end up getting through quite a few in a year.

I thought the smell wasn’t too overpowering but did seem to help. Had to add more after a few hours. I was worried about storing them as they were quite easy to pop out of the foil packet and could easily get bitten into or swallowed. I felt I went through the packet quite quickly compared to our usual brand which is in a bottle.

I liked the smell - seemed to do the job without making your eyes water!

Yes it did seem to help - needed to add another capsules after a couple of hours as it didn’t seem to remain for long enough.

Both my baby and 3 year old had snuffy noses during the trial, so I would use these when they had colds.

Loved the idea of child-friendly essential oils, however the pine scent wasn’t for me. The 3 year old liked my having to cut open the capsules but I found it a faff - I prefer a bottle. I’m not sure how effective it was in helping blocked noses, but my eldest son’s cold didn’t linger too long.

I used the capsules at bedtime. All three of my children had a cold and so I thought it might help. I might use them 5 times a year maybe.

I thought they were very small. They smelt nice however I had to use a capsule each for my children.

1. I used the Klearvol inhalation capsules on a handkerchief secured out of reach, which was really easy to do. For myself I would place the handkerchief under my pillow.
2. I used them a couple of nights when my daughter was particularly sniffly, and on one of those nights in my bedroom too. I would imagine using them several times a year in cold season.
3. I liked the smell. I thought they were a bit strong for an average sniffly baby, but great for an actual blocked nose or cold. For the sniffly baby I removed the handkerchief after 20 minutes as I thought that was enough time. I found the capsules handy, but also a small dropper bottle would work equally well and could be more economical.
4. Good smell. Strong so good for a blocked nose.

Luckily (or unluckily), both of my children had colds when these arrived! We used them for a couple of nights for each child. I would expect to need them at least monthly until March!
