This is the feedback thread for the 200 Mumsnet users who have been testing Klearvol essential oil inhalation capsules. This product test was open to all MNers with at least one child aged over 3 months to 12 years old.

Used at bedtime when DC was feeling a bit stuffy. Great timing for the test as the school is rife with bugs.

I thought they were really good in terms of the fragrance, concentration and effect. I wasn't quite as keen as not having as much control over the amount in the capsule as I thought it was quite a lot.

Completely different to competitor products, and not so strong as to make your eyes water. Felt quite innovative and new. Less keen on the amount of waste involved in the capsules and bit fiddly to dispense it.

I really liked the fragrance which reminded me of one of the steam rooms at CenterParcs. The one that smells like herbs.

I used it on a muslin tied to a hook on the wall out of his reach but above his bed.

I used one when I noticed my son had a sniffle and seemed to have a blocked nose. We had a bubble bath, then I put him in cosy PJs, put the Klearvol on a muslin above his bed and got him to sleep. He woke up much less stuffy so I’m assuming it helped. I feel I’d use it a few times a year especially in the colder months when I can tell my son is getting worn down and he’s bunged up.

I like them, I think they’re a good idea that they’re individually portioned so you know it’s the right amount to use and the snipping off of the top means you don’t have to touch the liquid which is great.

The smell was lovely, not too overpowering but enough to know it’s making a difference.

I would say so, the smell doesn’t seem chemically so I believe it is natural.

I used the Klearvol inhalation capsules the first night on a face cloth and then just on the bed sheet.
My children both have snotty colds so I used it so far for two nights and will continue to use it while they have stuffy noses. I imagine I’d get through two packs a year.
The capsules are strong in scent so very potent, which is great and makes it great value. They were easy to use and come in a handy packet that’s very portable. Although you’d need to keep it out of reach from children as they could get hold of it and swallow one.
The vapours and smells were soothing and natural, I liked how potent it was so you know it will work well and last.

I sprinkled the liquid over the top of the duvet - I know that’s not what I was meant to do, but that’s what I did anyway.

I sprinkled the capsules on my 7 year old’s bed (and my bed) at bedtime.
Probably 2-3 times a year, for when we get colds in the winter.

I liked the smell - effective but not too strong - it didn’t make my eyes water but cleared my child’s (and my) nose.

I didn’t like the packaging. It seemed like a lot of packaging and not really recyclable.

I used it a night, the youngest had developed a bit of a cold so they arrived at the perfect time. I think they would be used frequently during the winter.

Used it in the evening and also overnight. Would use it whenever someone in the family had a cold/blocked nose so around the wintery months.

I wasn't keen on having to find scissors to open the capsules, would have preferred a bottle with dropper. Didn't really like the smell either, reminded me of tiger balm. I prefer the smell of Olbas oil or the calpol plug ins.

I quite liked them, especially liked that it was pre measured so no going wrong with too much / little. Did seem to help clear our head - we all had head colds at the time.

Thought they were good for sinus / headcold and would def get them again

Not sure, I think I would use them more to soothe during a cold etc rather than using them to relax.

I used 4 over a 3 day period. I think maybe twice a year.

I really like them! The vapour was strong enough to actually have an effect and lasted overnight

Oh,on frequency of usage on qu 3 I would say when the children have a cold so hopefully just a couple of times over winter

On a night time. I used them for 3 nights when my daughter was snotty. She tends to get snotty a lot (could be allergies) so would like to use these long term.

They were very good. The smell lasted well and they seemed to help my daughter.

I put the oil on a piece of scrap fabric and tucked it under the bottom sheet of my son's bed.

They arrived just a the right time as my son was suffering from an stuffy nose. I used them for around 3 nights at bedtime. We would probably use them 3 or 4 times a year for a couple of nights each time.

The first time I used them I ended up getting the oil all over my fingers. I was much more careful next time I used them. I think the capsules could be easier to open as I had to hunt for some scissors at bedtime.

I loved the smell and so did my son. The relief it gave him lasted long enough for him to fall asleep easier and I could still smell it the following morning.

Yes. The smell was quite pleasant. It was strong enough to clear my son's nasal passages and help him breathe more easily.

I liked that they were easy to transport, and compact. The product seemed great on first use but the scent faded too quickly - a larger quantity in the capsule would have been better.

As my daughter has just returned to school common colds and blocked nose has started. I've used to combat that and also for myself just to feel clearer in my head as part of deep breathing exercise I would use them as needed for each bout so maybe from Oct to Feb maybe a few days each month.

I really liked them as an alternative to another remedy. They are handy in capsules to take for visits when away and both to help unblock and general feeling of clarity.
