This is the feedback thread for the 200 Mumsnet users who have been testing Klearvol essential oil inhalation capsules. This product test was open to all MNers with at least one child aged over 3 months to 12 years old.

1. How did you use the Klearvol inhalation capsules?

I added to boiling water and placed near my daughter, easy and convenient to take it to her bedroom near her radiator to breathe in through the night.

I got the boiling water ready near bedtime and took to her room to help her breathe through the night.
They would be used whenever there was a cold in the house as the smell travelled and cleared the air in the house.

The initial smell when added to the boiling water was very strong but it soon eased to a more pleasant smell. I liked them, used over a few nights and help with bed time sniffles so she slept better.

The smell travelled through the house so it seemed beneficial for the whole house air which helped us all with the onset of the cold.

I actually used some in my bedroom at night as I was getting sneezes and a stuffy head and the pleasant smell really cleared my head so they definitely delivered.

2.used the day after receiving them as my daughter developed a cold .
3.i like them , i think the smell could have been a bit stronger / longer lasting.
4.i liked the convenience / simplicity of the capsule .
5.i think they do provide soothing , natural vapours .
I used the capsules straightaway as my daughter has a heavy cold with congestion ,she said it definitely helped her .
when i cut the capsule i expected it to smell the same as karvol capsules , i used them when my 2 older children were small , also for myself. I must admit i was a little disappointed that they were'nt the same as i have never found a decongestant as good as karvol.
Saying that i do like the simple capsule design and i think aprox £4.00 is a fair price .would probably buy them in the future .

I used them on a muslin square and placed it out of reach.

I used them at bedtime for my one year old who has a bit of a cold at the minute. I think I would use them quite a lot between my 3 children who always have colds.

I really liked them, they are easy to use.

2- when used and how often?
I used it at night when DD2 had a cold. I would used them any time someone had a cold and was congested.

3 - what did you think of capsules?
I liked the shape and how distinctive they were from medication etc. Loved that they had to be opened by scissors as an extra safety feature. They are more expensive that vicks etc.

4- like most?
I liked how they seemed to work. Vicks seems to last a short time and is very powerful smell. This can be used for young children and although a milder smell allowed my dd to sleep through a cold and congestion.

5- soothing natural vapours?
I wasn't a fan of the smell but it wasn't offensive. It definitely worked.

Answer: I put them on a Muslin cloth next to their bed.

Answer: I used them at bed time when they were being a bit hyper, the had something else to concentrate on so it calmed them down

Answer: they were ok but my oldest child didn’t like it.

My toddler is back in nursery and picking up bugs and sniffles once more. I used them for two nights when she had had a runny nose that day.

I'd estimate getting through three packets a year, using as required when my daughter is unsettled or under the weather.

I really liked them. They were easy and quick to use and seemed to help combat congestion and enhance sleep.

Well I did like the smell but it has to be that they worked!

On a hanky out of reach but it’s a great idea to put a cloth on the radiator or the oil in a diffuser, I will be trying this too.

Used it at night and can imagine using it every time there’s a cold in the house so several times a year. I’d use a new one each evening.

They reminded me of when I was a child and had karvol which was oddly reassuring. Thought they spelt effective but not too potent in the way olbas oil can.

The easy to use capsules (easier than a bottle) and the non offensive smell. They also did seem to help.

I tried both: cloth over the radiator and in a diffuser. I prefer the diffuser.

I used it before bed, during storytelling time. I will definitely use it few weeks a year, when my kids experience difficulties sleep, like too hot weather, pain, illnesses, excitement, anxiety.

Extremely good, relaxing and calming scents. It gives a chilling atmosphere.

It contains the right amount of oil, I do not have to measure it. It does not make any mess.

I squeezed the capsule onto a cotton pad & put it on the other side of the room.

I used them at night when the snuffles struck. I'd probably use them a few times a week in cold season.

I wasnt keen on how the packet was so child friendly and inviting. This is a medicinal product and yes for children but not to be freely used so I feel should be less targeted to them. I took them out of the postal packet and my son immediately showed interest and picked it up. This worried me for future use. I immediately put them up high so out of reach. My son has never picked up or shown interest in a medicinal product before.

I put it on a muslin over the radiator. I used it overnight and would use it regularly for chronic sinus congestion. They were effective in helping clear sinuses but the smell wasnt particularly nice and Daughter didn't like that. I liked that they improved Daughters sleep by helping her nose clear and did provide soothing natural vapours.

At bedtime. I might consider using them through the winter months whenever DS has a cold.

I didn’t particularly like them and thought the design of the capsules was a bit poor. No matter how hard I tried, every time I snipped the end off with scissors I ended up with the oils on my hands. A twist off end would work better.

No, I actually found the vapours quite strong and unpleasant, like some type of cleaning product

Pretty nice - smelt good! And seemed effective with my older child although baby didn’t seem to like them as much

We used Klearvol both on a cloth tucked into pillowcase (my son is 7) & also inhaling vapour after putting contents of capsule into hot water. We are all bunged up with cold so this was an ideal time to try Klearvol!

We used them before bed, when my son felt most bunged up.

Found Klearvol capsules very easy to use, clear instructions & attractive packaging. I remember using Karvol for colds when I was little & I found them incredibly soothing. These are very similar & very effective.

Easy to use & contain essential oils.

Absolutely, my son found they helped clear congestion & I had a whiff too & it really cleared my horrifically blocked up nose!

Coincidentally my children came down with colds at the time we received the capsules, so they really came in handy. I used them at bedtimes with my 3 month old and 3 year old, for a couple of nights. We’d probably use them a couple of times a year, when the children have colds.

I really liked them, it was a relief to have something effective to use with my baby. Found the aroma to be pleasant and long lasting.

I used the Klearvol inhalation capsules on cotton as well as on a muslin in a pouch which was sealed for safety but the pouch was breathable hence the vapors could easily escape.

I used them last week as both myself and my kids were under cold symptoms. I think I would need to use them a few times a year especially during the winters.

They are great! Perfect vapors to keep our noses unblocked and for a better sleep during the snotty days.

Love the smell. Easy to use at bedtime...slightly trickier in the middle of the night. Lovely natural product and seem as effective as similar products to ease congestion.
