Recruitment is now closed.

HyperJar is looking for Mumsnet users to test a new money management app that lets you plan, budget and grow your spending power in Jars. Please note this app is NOT a replacement for your bank account and will NOT affect your credit score. For more information on HyperJar, check out the website here.

Selected testers will be required to:

  • Download the app from the App Store or Google Play, sign up and order a HyperJar card (it takes about a week to arrive)
  • Create a Jar so that HyperJar can send £10 to your new account to spend using the app, wherever you like
  • Transfer some money from your bank to your HyperJar account. This can be spent wherever you’d usually spend – no need to change shopping habits
  • Start testing out the app (instructions on exactly how to do this will be sent to testers)

We’d like you to test HyperJar over four weeks. Once the test is over, if you don’t want to carry on using HyperJar, they will close your account and help you transfer any money you haven’t spent back into your bank account.

Here is how HyperJar describes itself: “HyperJar is the world’s smartest payment app. An easy, digital version of jam-jar budgeting. The Jars you create reflect your life, your spending and your goals. Jars for groceries, lunches, Christmas, kids’ clubs, nights out, holidays… With HyperJar, you can see where your money is going, not just where it went.

“So why use HyperJar? 1. Clearer, easier, happier money when you plan in Jars. For groceries, lunches, holidays. For life. 2. Shared spending, solved. Plan and spend together with Group Jars. Easy pop-up joint accounts and digital kitties for 2-30 people. 3. Make planning pay with our partners. Lock in money with them for an inflation-beating Annual Growth Rate of 4.8%. 4. Spend directly from any Jar with the world’s smartest payment card.”

Selected testers will be required to leave feedback on a private thread on Mumsnet as well as complete a short survey. All testers who do will be entered into a prize draw where 3 MNers will win a £100 voucher each of their choice (from a list).

Please don’t download the app directly from the App Store if you want to take part in this test – HyperJar are waiting to finish a few features which will be ready for Mumsnet users by the time we’ve selected our testers.

If you would like to sign up to test this app, please click here.

Thanks and good luck.

I had the same email despite having already added money to it and used it a few times.

busybee987 · 20/11/2019 18:14

ahh that makes me feel a bit better, wonder are we not using it enough or something like that. though the email said it hadnt been used so perhaps just a mistake

Reluctantbettlynch · 21/11/2019 09:09

Unimpressed so far. Cannot add to applepay which I use most often, and I've tried to use it online but the payment won't work for school dinner money.
It's a nuisance that you have to link to a specific jar even if there is only money in one of them.
So far all my other pre-pay cards are better than this one, monzo is a way better set up where it asks you after you make a payment to choose a category, much more simplistic and user friendly than having to decide beforehand. I can just imagine having to go in to the app before paying in store (assuming card works there) to choose a jar as you've made an unexpected purchase.

JC4PMPLZ · 21/11/2019 09:51

I tried using it abroad - luckily it did not go through as it interpreted the currency as pounds, which would have been a disaster in this case!

CatkinToadflax · 21/11/2019 11:51

I’ve had that email too, despite using the card 5 or 6 times.

Underthefur · 21/11/2019 21:00

Agree with @Reluctantbettlynch, irritating that I can't add to Apple Pay.

I've lost interest in using the card because you have to check the appropriate jar has sufficient funds in it before your transaction and this has led me to leave my balance in the "wallet" to cover any category, which rather defeats the whole object of the account,

I haven't tried other options like Monzo yet but am not impressed with HyperJar and will be looking for an alternative I fear.

DuckWillow · 21/11/2019 21:00

I’ve still not had my card but hoping it will arrive tomorrow.

Have to say HyperJar were very responsive so that’s good,

BeverlyGoldbergsHairAndJumpers · 21/11/2019 21:59

I got my credit after I used the online chat. They were very helpful.

Mickhasnotorso · 22/11/2019 09:44

I've not yet received my card

LucyBMumsnet · 22/11/2019 09:56

Hi @JC4PMPLZ,

HyperJar have asked us to pass on the following: "Thank you for the message. When you use your card abroad, please ask to pay in the local currency as HyperJar does not charge any fees for currency exchange. More info can be found here"

The first money I transferred in was almost instant but it is taking a while tonight.
Bit worried I have done it wrong!

ny20005 · 22/11/2019 20:31

@AHobbyaweek money only seems to go through during business hours

busybee987 · 22/11/2019 23:43

mine has always taken a few hours, it would definitely be a drawback for me

AHobbyaweek · 23/11/2019 12:22

The money eventually came though. I get that you are supposed to put your spending money each month in it to jar out but I had an odd amount left and got some expenses though so wanted to put the money in there for a treat. It is a drawback for me.

zigzagbetty · 23/11/2019 18:47

I'm still waiting for my card to arrive, have emailed so hopefully be here soon.

DuckWillow · 23/11/2019 19:58

....and still no card.

I had one from Monzo the next working day.

muffinheaven · 24/11/2019 11:55

Still waiting for card to arrive. I feel like I can't actually be bothered to use the card if it ever turns up as I seem to have spent so much time already emailing them to chase it. Very unimpressed already !

eyestightshut · 24/11/2019 15:11

It's not very intuitive and a bit of a faff to have to withdraw money from jars and link jars to the wallet. It's got to the stage where I can't really be bothered to use it so I suppose in one way it's helping me curtail my spending!

BreastOfIntentions · 24/11/2019 18:10

My card has arrived, I've transferred some money on and the additional £10 has also appeared today. Now to get out and use it!

DuckWillow · 25/11/2019 10:48

THE SAGA CONTINUES

So ...the card arrived finally today.

Not however until I had paid the £2 postage which HyperJar didn’t do, no postage paid at all apparently!

So far it’s taken days for the card to arrive.
No postage paid so I had to pay it.

Not impressing me so far HyperJar.

PJ04JCW · 25/11/2019 12:42

I'm not impressed either at the minute, I had to ask them for the card as it was taking ages, then collect it from the post office as there was insufficient postage paid. However I had a whinge to them and they refunded postage.
App (iPhone 8) taking ages to open.
Have put some money into the Lidl jar so will try and get there this week and try it out. Not hopeful though!

Mickhasnotorso · 25/11/2019 18:45

Same as all above, £2 to pay for postage and it's only just arrived!

Scoleah · 25/11/2019 19:57

I'm not fussed. I think it's too much Faff, putting money into different jars and then activating the one you want to pay from Etc.
Not for me unfortunately

DuckWillow · 26/11/2019 08:58

Finally transferred some money into it. I’ve got a “Shopping” jar so will use that when I next go to Aldi/Lidl/Tesco/Asda.

It takes around 2-4 hours for the money to land in the HyperJar account.which surprises me in these days of instant transfers. I’ve got a Monzo account and transfer is immediate. Not sure where the money goes while it’s transferring.

PJ04JCW · 26/11/2019 09:20

Not sure how this 4.8% interest is supposed to work either as I put money in Lidl jar 3 days ago and it resets to zero every time I close the app.
