Recruitment is now closed.

HyperJar is looking for Mumsnet users to test a new money management app that lets you plan, budget and grow your spending power in Jars. Please note this app is NOT a replacement for your bank account and will NOT affect your credit score. For more information on HyperJar, check out the website here.

Selected testers will be required to:

  • Download the app from the App Store or Google Play, sign up and order a HyperJar card (it takes about a week to arrive)
  • Create a Jar so that HyperJar can send £10 to your new account to spend using the app, wherever you like
  • Transfer some money from your bank to your HyperJar account. This can be spent wherever you’d usually spend – no need to change shopping habits
  • Start testing out the app (instructions on exactly how to do this will be sent to testers)

We’d like you to test HyperJar over four weeks. Once the test is over, if you don’t want to carry on using HyperJar, they will close your account and help you transfer any money you haven’t spent back into your bank account.

Here is how HyperJar describes itself: “HyperJar is the world’s smartest payment app. An easy, digital version of jam-jar budgeting. The Jars you create reflect your life, your spending and your goals. Jars for groceries, lunches, Christmas, kids’ clubs, nights out, holidays… With HyperJar, you can see where your money is going, not just where it went.

“So why use HyperJar? 1. Clearer, easier, happier money when you plan in Jars. For groceries, lunches, holidays. For life. 2. Shared spending, solved. Plan and spend together with Group Jars. Easy pop-up joint accounts and digital kitties for 2-30 people. 3. Make planning pay with our partners. Lock in money with them for an inflation-beating Annual Growth Rate of 4.8%. 4. Spend directly from any Jar with the world’s smartest payment card.”

Selected testers will be required to leave feedback on a private thread on Mumsnet as well as complete a short survey. All testers who do will be entered into a prize draw where 3 MNers will win a £100 voucher each of their choice (from a list).

Please don’t download the app directly from the App Store if you want to take part in this test – HyperJar are waiting to finish a few features which will be ready for Mumsnet users by the time we’ve selected our testers.

If you would like to sign up to test this app, please click here.

Thanks and good luck.

I was selected. Got the card yesterday, added some money and the credit was there within a few minutes. Looks good and it’s making me think properly about spends

You have to sign up and wait a week for your actual card to arrive?? I think it would just be less complicated to use actual jars really.

I’ve download the app. Signed up. Got my card. Activated it. But not got money in my account

You have to credit your own account (unless I've misunderstood that bit)

I've transferred £10 so have it sitting there but just realised that (as a pre-paid card) I can't add to my Apple wallet which is a pain as I usually use Apple Pay for most things. I'll have to remember to take the card out with me and give it a go.

Ok thanks. I did wonder if that was the case

I received my card yesterday and activated it today. £10 was credited to my card within 3 hours. Might be worth contacting customer support if you haven't already done so.

@justinebmumsnet I have replied to the mumsnet email twice to say that I would like to use a different email to access Hyperjar, not my mumsnet email address but have had no reply. Please can you ask someone to reply to my email so I can begin testing the app.

Opened HyperJar this morning and behold there was £10! Obviously took a bit longer to clear into my account for some reason. Here I come Lidl!

@ny20005 you set your own pin in the app

Still not had any money deposited from HyperJar. I have already paid some money in. Have to say first impressions aren't great.

The app is all jumbled on my iphone, letters overlapping and making it hard to navigate

Still waiting for my card but hopefully it will be here tomorrow.

Was using Monzo but got a bit put off by the issues raised on WatchDog a few weeks back.

My £10 had gone in and my card has arrived. I'm going to add my Festive short break funds to the card ready for next week's trip away.
It'll hopefully mean I don't overspend on treats!

I tried using my card yesterday but had misunderstood how the jars work so had the transaction declined because of insufficient funds in my wallet (had split the total across a couple of jars)

Will try again later.

Used my card for first time today. Just be aware that you need to put your pin in for the first transaction (at least I did) rather than use contactless.

really peed off with this card. Loaded an additional £40, making total of £50 so I could use it to pay for Asda fuel today. It was declined. I had it in a jar I had called 'fuel'. Opened the app and wondered if it should be in wallet instead but declined again.
Put the £50 back into the 'fuel' jar and went to Sainsburys, and it worked. So my app now shows money gone from my fuel jar but spent on groceries.
I don't think its intuitive at all.
How do I get the remainder back in my bank so I don't have to use this card again?
