This thread is now closed

This is the feedback thread for the Mumsnet users who tested either the Ultrasun Family SPF30 or the Ultrasun Extreme SPF50+. This test was open to all UK MNers who have at least one child.

Here’s what Ultrasun have to say: “Swiss professional sun care brand Ultrasun offers super sensitive broad spectrum sun protection from harmful UVA, UVB & Infrared A rays. Advanced lamellar technology gives long-lasting, fast absorbing and lightweight formulas. All products are hypoallergenic with no emulsifiers, perfume or parabens, reducing the risk of allergy. Babies and children can be prone to heat rashes during hot or humid weather because their sweat glands are not fully developed. Ultrasun’s products help to prevent prickly heat making them especially suitable for children and those with very sensitive skin. The easy to use products are, non-greasy, non-sticky and water resistant meaning applying sun cream to wriggling little ones is less challenging and teenagers are protected without constant reminders to reapply.”

Testers please answer the following questions:
- Who did you try the sun cream on?
- How confident were you that this product provided the best and long lasting sun protection for you and/or your child?
- Did you find the product easy to apply? Was the process fuss free?
- What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
- Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?

Selected testers will be required to test out the product until the beginning June whenever possible and then leave feedback on a thread on Mumsnet as well as filling in a short survey. Testers who leave the required feedback will be entered into a prize draw where 3 MNers will win a £100 voucher each of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw

  • Who did you try the sun cream on?
Myself and my four young children.
  • How confident were you that this product provided the best and long lasting sun protection for you and/or your child?
I feel as though it did protect us, i did re-apply it a few times throughout the day to be sure the protection lasted.
  • Did you find the product easy to apply? Was the process fuss free?
I found it as easy as other products to apply, the consistency was fine and it absorbed into the skin well.
  • What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
The SPF, i prefer a high spf to ensure my family have the best protection.
  • Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?
Yes, it is a great product to use and as long as the price is right i will happily use it again in the future.

I was disappointed not to test this product, my family like others on this thread have trouble with suncream.
Having read some of the reviews from families with eczema, I might give this cream a go.
In case anyone else is wondering where to buy it, there is a list if you click on ‘where to find us ‘ which includes John Lewis Waitrose m&s among others.

  • Who did you try the sun cream on?

I tried the family spf30 on myself, husband and the older children. I tried the extreme spf50 on the baby and my husband

  • How confident were you that this product provided the best and long lasting sun protection for you and/or your child?

Nobody suffered any sunburn when using the products, we reapplied it regularly. Very happy with the level of protection it provides.

  • Did you find the product easy to apply? Was the process fuss free?

I found the spf50 did not absorb very well and the baby was very white covered in it. I didn't mind hugely because I prefer he is protected. The spf30 absorbed more easily. I like the pump bottoles, I usually use a spray but actually, the pump is easier as you can control where it goes.

  • What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?

It is suitable for sensitive skin as I want to use it on children and babies. I want it to be safe if my baby rubs himself and then puts fingers in his mouth and of course I want it to protect from sun damage.

  • Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?

Yes because it gave good protection

Not a new product at all. I've been using this for over 8 years now, my children have never ever burnt. It's amazing. My go to cream x

  • Who did you try the sun cream on?
Daughters 10 year and 7 years Sons 4years old and 10 months old
  • How confident were you that this product provided the best and long lasting sun protection for you and/or your child?
I found the product lasted really well and gave really good protection for my kids from the sun
  • Did you find the product easy to apply? Was the process fuss free?
The product was very easy to apply and you really don’t need to use a large amount either so my 4 year old son who has autism really didn’t mind using it as it also didn’t seem quite as oily or sticky as some other suncreams.
  • What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
The most important for me is that it will protect all my children’s different skin types as I have 2 very pale children who burn easily
  • Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?
Yes definitely as 1: my son didn’t mind having it applied and it didn’t cause a huge meltdown everyday and 2: it protects my children very well from the sun
