Here’s what Ultrasun have to say: “Swiss professional sun care brand Ultrasun offers super sensitive broad spectrum sun protection from harmful UVA, UVB & Infrared A rays. Advanced lamellar technology gives long-lasting, fast absorbing and lightweight formulas. All products are hypoallergenic with no emulsifiers, perfume or parabens, reducing the risk of allergy. Babies and children can be prone to heat rashes during hot or humid weather because their sweat glands are not fully developed. Ultrasun’s products help to prevent prickly heat making them especially suitable for children and those with very sensitive skin. The easy to use products are, non-greasy, non-sticky and water resistant meaning applying sun cream to wriggling little ones is less challenging and teenagers are protected without constant reminders to reapply.”

- Did you find the product easy to apply? Was the process fuss free?
- What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?

  • How confident were you that this product provided the best and long lasting sun protection for you and/or your child? Yes, we were very impressed with the cream. And I would definitely reapply after a few hours in very sunny weather as we are very fair.

Was the process fuss free? Definitely fuss & problem free.
  • What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product? The level of protection, no reactions and ease of use.
  • Would you buy this sun protection again? Why? Definitely buy again and already have done. This is the best product we have ever used.

Who did you try the sun cream on?

Myself and my son ages 8 and foster daughter age 4.

  • How confident were you that this product provided the best and long lasting sun protection for you and/or your child?

It's packaging and appearance seems more clinical than other brands so this gave the impression it gave better protection.

  • Did you find the product easy to apply? Was the process fuss free?

The pump was easy to use, though I didn't realise at first you had to pull the plastic piece off that was in front of the hole. It went on okay, the consistency was good but it was tacky for longer than I expected.

  • What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?

That it provides good protection, is easy to apply, dries quickly and smells nice.

  • Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?

I would for myself, I like being able to apply suncream once for me and get on with the day. My son did not like the tacky feeling or the smell and said it smelled like weeds!

Spirael · 07/06/2019 11:47

I wasn't a tester, but just got back from Florida with my family and we used Ultrasun. We love it! It is a bit expensive, but for us it was worth the price.

I used SPF30 on myself, my husband and DD1. I used SPF50 on DD2. All of us are very pale, and myself and the children are freckled. We applied the sunscreen liberally first thing, then just did a top up at lunchtime on areas like cheeks, ears, shoulders, etc. We were outside all day in the sun and no-one burnt at all!

Also, myself and DD1 have had allergies to sunscreen - previously I had to use one sort and DD1 used another, as we were allergic to each others! Happy to say that none of us had any reaction at all to Ultrasun. :) Makes it much easier to have one brand for everyone.

NurseKeegan · 07/06/2019 11:48

Who did you try the sun cream on?

I used the higher protection on my two children and the lower on myself and partner.

How confident were you that this product provided the best and long lasting sun protection for you and/or your child?

Despite having very few days that required higher factors of protection, the days we did use it none of us suffered any adverse effects of sun exposure.

Did you find the product easy to apply? Was the process fuss free?

I was very impressed with the consistency of both formulas and both rubbed in very well without any residue. Very little transfer/staining on clothes. Easy to use pump dispenser!

What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?

Amount of protection and suitability for sensitive skin!

Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?

100% - I definitely think you get what you pay for with this product. I would be very happy to us it on my children's skin should the sun decide to come out in Northern Ireland again.

Who did you try the sun cream on?
Myself (currently pregnant and bad eczema), Dd 6 and ds 2

  • How confident were you that this product provided the best and long lasting sun protection for you and/or your child?
Very very confident
  • Did you find the product easy to apply? Was the process fuss free?
A bit dramatic as the pump was broken on factor 30 family and had to decant product. Product not sticky and went on ok after that. Pump worked perfectly on factor 50 for me and v easy to apply
  • What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
High-ish factor and suitable for sensitive skin
  • Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?
Yes provided pump working I would I though both fact 50 and 30 excellent
Weemargaret · 07/06/2019 12:36
  • Who did you try the sun cream on?
I tried it on myself, my husband and my two young children.
  • How confident were you that this product provided the best and long lasting sun protection for you and/or your child?
I didn't know what to expect to start with because I had never used this brand before but I was very pleased. It was easy to apply and to cover all skin areas so I felt quite reassured that we would be safe in the sun. After a few uses my confidence increased because I could see that it worked. I was also reassured by the detailed information on the packaging.
  • Did you find the product easy to apply? Was the process fuss free?
It was very easy to apply and I liked the pump. Yes it was completely fuss free as it didn't take very long to apply so my children managed to stay still long enough to apply it!
  • What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
I usually go for the highest protection rating as we all have very fair skin so need this. I also like waterproof suncream so you can feel comfortable even when we get into pools or the sea. I also like a nice mild smell and preferably something that doesn't leave white marks all over you.
  • Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?
Yes I would definitely buy this again if it was at a reasonable price. Unfortunately, it isn't readily available in all stores so this would be an issue for me as I would probably go for a more convenient brand that I also trust. But if I seen it when out and about, I would definitely buy it again!

Thanks for letting us try these products, it was very interesting to try a suncream I'm not familiar with.

-Who did you try the sun cream on?
My whole family, including my 1 year old.

-How confident were you that this product provided the best and long lasting sun protection for you and/or your child?
Very confident.

-Did you find the product easy to apply? Was the process fuss free?
Yes, easy to apply, even on my one year old daughter, also I find that the cream soaks in easily which is a bonus.

-What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
The protection level, I prefer waterproof version, it must be easily absorbed and easily accessible packaging.

-Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?
Yes, I would buy this protection because it was very effective and we did not get any redness on a super sunny hot day as we usually would.

Natah · 07/06/2019 12:59
  • I tried the sun cream on myself, my 3yr old boy and his 2 year old cousin who has very sensitive skin
  • I was very confident that this product provided the best and long lasting sun protection for me, my child and my nephew. We wore it in hot weather and none of us got at all burned and we hardly even had to reapply
  • I found the product easy to apply although the only slight fuss was getting the bottle open
  • when choosing a sun protection product, it’s important to me that it’s long-lasting, kind to sensitive skin, the highest protection possible, non greasy and quick/easy to apply as 3 year olds don’t give you long before they run off to play!
  • I’d definitely buy this sun protection again because it ticks every box in what I look for in sun protection, plus my auntie is a skincare expert and she said Ultrasun is the best!
Belmo · 07/06/2019 13:26

Who did you try the sun cream on?

Myself, my daughter (7) and son (3)

  • How confident were you that this product provided the best and long lasting sun protection for you and/or your child?

Very confident

  • Did you find the product easy to apply? Was the process fuss free?

Absolutely- much easier than other brands. It’s lovely and smooth to apply, and the pump works nicely.

  • What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?

Level of protection first, then ‘gentleness’ (we all suffer from eczema here). Bonus points for not leaving everyone white and greasy, and bonus bonus points for eco friendly.

  • Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?

Absolutely, I love it. We still have a good bit left as the weather turned halfway through the month! I’ve wanted to try it but been put off by the price, but having tried it I think it’s worth it.

  • Who did you try the sun cream on?
Myself, husband a my 2 year old.
  • How confident were you that this product provided the best and long lasting sun protection for you and/or your child? Very. The information and detail provided assured me and then omce using it was clear to see that all the information was correct and true. Lasted well, covered everyone, and not a hint of redness.
  • Did you find the product easy to apply? Very. It’s a fantastic consistency. Goes on smoothly and with no fuss.

Was the process fuss free?
Again - very. Sank in easily, no stickiness and didn’t stain.

  • What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product? Coverage, SPF, uva/uvb protection and safety.
  • Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?

Absolutely. My son is fair skinned and prone to redness and prickly heat even when not sunburnt. This cream protected him from everything and was kind on his sensitive skin. It’s waterproof and lasts for hours. It didn’t stain clothing and was quick and easy to apply. I am very impressed!

  • Who did you try the sun cream on?
me and my husband used SPF30, and both girls (2 & & years old) SPF50
  • How confident were you that this product provided the best and long lasting sun protection for you and/or your child?
Never got any sunburn or even red spots, worked great and I know we are safe when we use it.
  • Did you find the product easy to apply? Was the process fuss free?
Yes very easy to apply, the pump did the magic my 7 years old was able to do it herself and we only helped her to make sure she covered all body
  • What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
I want to make sure that there is enough protection of both UVA and UVB filters because that is the only way to protect skin form sun damage and cancer. Also how big filter is is as well important.
  • Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?
Yes I would as it offers excellent protection from sunburns.
danigrace · 07/06/2019 20:59
  • Who did you try the sun cream on?
Myself and my 22 month old
  • How confident were you that this product provided the best and long lasting sun protection for you and/or your child?
Fairly confident although the packaging could have been much clearer
  • Did you find the product easy to apply? Was the process fuss free?
As easy but no easier as any other basic suncream
  • What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
High SPF and 5*
  • Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?
Probably not, the UV star rating isn't clear, all the different languages on the box make it fussy and saying gel on the box multiple times made me wonder if it was gel rather than cream. I'd rather buy something clear and simple where I know and can trust exactly what I'm getting
ThePug · 07/06/2019 22:27

-Who did you try the sun cream on?

Myself and my four daughters aged 2, 4, 6 and 9. I was asked to test both factor 30 and factor 50+

-How confident were you that this product provided the best and long lasting sun protection for you and/or your child?

Both products were absorbed by the skin well. The factor 50 was applied once, the kids then went out to play, and it didn't require any further top-up. The factor 30 I did re-apply after 4hrs more to be on the safe side, however I think it would have lasted longer than this.

-Did you find the product easy to apply? Was the process fuss free?

Both products were very easy to apply. The packaging was easy to use and extract the lotion from. I found the factor 30 slightly thicker and easier to absorb, however there was very little difference. Neither left my hands greasy or sticky, even after applying to 4 children.

-What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?

I usually need to buy 2 or 3 different types of sun cream because of the ages of my children, and a difference in sensitivity of their skin. My 4yr old has recently started reacting to many brand name sun lotions (blotchy rash) so I don't use the same lotions for all 4 children now (due to cost of the lotion for the 4yr old).

The sun lotion must protect their skin well, and allow it breath, while being water resistant due to sweat or water activities.

-Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?

Yes I would buy again. Ideally at a reduced price, but I would consider full price also. The sun lotion I purchase for my 4yr old is expensive and does not seem to last long. This sun lotion did seem to go a long way, so I think would last longer. This might make it feasible to use for all 4 children if cost effective. I was very happy that my 4yr old did not have a reaction to either factor 30 or 50 sun lotion, as there are only 2 brands I could use until now.

  • Who did you try the sun cream on?
My whole family
  • How confident were you that this product provided the best and long lasting sun protection for you and/or your child?
We tested both on some very hot days and no one was burned at all, some with only one application.
  • Did you find the product easy to apply? Was the process fuss free?
The formulations are a little thick and take a bit of work to get absorbed but once they are done, you can't feel them or really smell anything.
  • What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
It has to actually protect from the sun, many don't perform as well as they claim which is a concern. It also has to be easy to apply and ideally once a day or a couple of times a day, I don't want to have to be reapplying several times.
  • Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?
Yes, in fact QVC has an UltraSun TSV the other day and I purchased that. UltraSun is more expensive than other brands, but I am happy paying more for a premium product that does what it claims.

-Who did you try the sun cream on?
Toddler daughter, baby son and both very pale parents!

-How confident were you that this product provided the best and long lasting sun protection for you and/or your child?
Very confident
-Did you find the product easy to apply? Was the process fuss free?
Yes - but I would prefer it to be in a spray as it's slightly easier to apply that way.

-What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
-Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?
Yes, it was high quality
Yes but price would be a consideration- it would be better if they were in bigger sizes? Otherwise that's a lot of plastic waste if taking on holiday for whole family as would need quite a number!

DS7 and myself
  • How confident were you that this product provided the best and long lasting sun protection for you and/or your child?

  • Did you find the product easy to apply? Was the process fuss free?
Yes, Both went on very easily, blended in quickly. DS barely noticed me putting it on him!
  • What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
Lasting coverage, no streaks or pilling of product. Good packaging that prevents leakage / mess.
  • Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?
Yes, felt it was easy to use and nicely packaged. Pleasant smell and seems reliable protection.
bakingqueen · 08/06/2019 13:01

I tried the cream in my 7 and 2 year olds

I was confident in its abilities to protect them as no obvious signs of sun damage on them

It was easy to apply - my 7 year old did it himself with no problems.

Important factors for me are the UV protection that is offered and ease of application. Right price point as well

I would buy this and recommend this product

PickleandPoppet · 09/06/2019 20:40

Who did you try the sun cream on?
My 2 children - Age 2 and 5

-How confident were you that this product provided the best and long lasting sun protection for you and/or your child?
I applied more often than once as I worry about the childrens skin and so always apply regularly and I don't think I would stop that regardless of what the bottle suggests

-Did you find the product easy to apply? Was the process fuss free?
It was easy to apply and a little went a long way. It felt thinner than other products I have used before. The pump meant that it was easy to use and no mess. Even my 5 year old was able to work it.

-What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
I always go by the star rating as a first and then smell and consistency for use. Nothing worse than a sticky sun cream.

-Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?
I wouldn't buy this sun cream again not because there is anything wrong with the product as it is lovely to use, smells nice and ticks every box I would look for. The issue I had was the children complained of feeling itchy after I had applied it and so I don't think it is rght for their skin.

starryeyedsnowgirl · 09/06/2019 21:07
  • Who did you try the sun cream on?

Myself and my three children- 5, 3 and 4 months

  • How confident were you that this product provided the best and long lasting sun protection for you and/or your child? Very. The packaging was informative and seemed to meet all the required standards. The product itself felt high quality and seemed to protect all of our pasty Scottish skin from burning.
  • Did you find the product easy to apply? Was the process fuss free? -

Very easy..the bottle made it easy to get a small amount unlike some packaging where you get huge blobs. The cream itself was light and didn't leave a sticky residue in the skin which many sun creams seem to. This also meant I didn't urgent feel the need to wash my hands afterwards so I could do.it whilst out and about.

What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?

Good protection. Easy to apply. Reed friendly. Doesnt give me a rash. This checked all those boxes.

Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?

Definitely. I have a reaction to suncream often but this was done. It was easy to pay and felt nice on the skin, not sticky or greasy. It didn't seem to be too bad for staining and had no cloying smell. I have been looking for a cream which ticked all these boxes and was Reed friendly and this is it. I will happily recommend it to friend. I also liked that the box told you how much to use as I think I have been guilty of using too little.

Great product- thanks for letting me test it.

Who did you try the sun cream on?
Myself and my 2 children, dd(4) and ds(2)

How confident were you that this product provided the best and long lasting sun protection for you and/or your child?
Knowing a little about the brand, and based on using it in the sun during the trial period, I would that yes I was extremely confident in the product.

Did you find the product easy to apply? Was the process fuss free?
Yes it was easy to apply - the lid and pump worked easily and the product spread smoothly. I did find it a little thick and sticky for me though and I do prefer a spray mist application.

What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
Ease of application, price, confidence in quality.

Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?
I definitely would when/if I was looking for a cream product rather than a spray.
