This activity is now closed

This is the feedback thread for the MNers who have both completed and are still working on finishing the Disney 24 Hour Challenge. Disney are looking for as many families as possible to sign up to take part in their new 24 Hour Challenge as part of Disney’s Healthy living commitment. The challenge is to clock up a total of 24 hours worth of activity with your team between June and September.

If after reading the feedback this sounds like something your family would be interested in, the challenge is still ongoing so please sign up here, create your team page and please select ‘Mumsnet’ when asked where you heard about the challenge.

Here’s what Disney have to say: “This summer Disney invites you to take part in the 24 Hour Challenge, a FREE, virtual challenge inspired by Incredibles 2, that you can do anywhere, at any time. Every week teams will have a chance to win Incredible prizes, including 10 weekly prize bundles worth £200 each and, if you complete all 24 hours, a holiday to Disneyland Paris to experience and take part in the Magic Run weekend, from 21st – 23rd September.

Families can clock up time doing activities they already enjoy (like walking, swimming, playing in the park), use our “missions” (inspired by the characters from the Disney/Pixar film Incredibles 2) as ideas to get started, or try something new!”

Testers please answer the following questions:

  • How have you found the challenge so far?
  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team?
  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?
  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?
  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge
  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?

Everyone who leaves feedback on the 24 Hour Challenge will be in with the chance of winning one of the following prizes:

  • Family ticket to the West End musical Aladdin + £200 for travel and accommodation**
  • Family ticket to Disney on Ice + £200 for travel and accommodation*
  • £100 voucher of their choice (from a list)

Thanks and good luck

Testers please answer the following questions:

  • How have you found the challenge so far?
It's been a struggle to start before the summer holidays, and not having much time free in the evenings and weekends...and the heatwave makes it harder to be very active!
  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team?
None yet....
  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?
We have done a few dog walks, but I haven't banked them yet.
  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?
No, I didn't know there were any!
  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge
The Disney / Incredibles link
  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?
Start in the summer holidays so you have enough spare time!
EnFlique · 17/07/2018 17:37

How have you found the challenge so far?
We haven’t managed to actually start it yet as I work full time and the weekend has been taken up with other things. Hoping to start once the holidays start.

  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team? None as a team, she does a lot during the week without me though.
  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?
None so far
  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?
Not yet
  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge
Couldn’t say yet
  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?
Make sure you have the time to dedicate to it or you will feel bad for not doing it!
starlight36 · 17/07/2018 19:59

How have you find the challenge so far? We haven’t started it as was planning to do mainly in the school holidays. It will be easier as the whole family will be together for longer periods of time and it is a good activity to help keep the children busy.
How many hours have you clocked up as a family? None so far. The kids will probably have done it on their own as they have had various Sports Days, runs and sporty parties over the last few weeks.
How are you taking part? We haven’t started this yet.
What activities have you done together? We plan to do a few 3k treks on our holidays, also play games of football and tennis together
Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ? Not yet but i’ll take a look to see if there are any we can do.
What has been your favourite thing about the challenge? Can’t really answer her but I like the idea of the challenge
What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge? Try to make sure you make time to exercise together as a family. I thought it would be easy to do but have found over the last few weekends how little time we have had together to focus on this.

  • How have you found the challenge so far?
Surprisingly good considering I have pregnancy related sciatica and PGP which has caused me limited mobility.
  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team?
9 hours and 55 mins
  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?
We have been dong more walking and running.
  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?
No, I'm quite limited in what I can do at the moment.
  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge
It's keeping me focused and giving us a target.
  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?
It's worth doing because it definitely makes you more mindful, so sign up because you have nothing to loose.
Takora · 17/07/2018 20:14
  • How have you found the challenge so far?
A little slow, as we don't have much time together as a family during the week. My husband gets home late from work and is tired, especially in this heat.
  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team? About 6 hours
  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?
Football, Running, Dancing
  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?
I had a look and there were some fun ideas, but to be honest, we haven't used them so far.
  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge
That it has reminded us to do things as a family, rather than us taking turns to play active games with my son. It is really nice. I also love the challenge and the link with the Incredibles.
  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?
Bear in mind that you all have to do the activities together, so if that wouldn't work in your family, only log the people who would be able to - you can't edit your team once it has been set up. Also, it really helps to decide a specific day and general time when you are going to do something together and remember that it doesn't need to be a long activity - just active but FUN! :)
boptanana · 17/07/2018 22:23

Think carefully about activities you can all complete together as this has been challenging!
lollylaus · 17/07/2018 22:45
  • How have you found the challenge so far?
We've done bits and piece s here and there but I've forgotten to log a lot of the hours!
  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team?
We did about 12 so far.
  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?
Walking, playing in the park and in the garden.
  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?
No
  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge
Getting out and active as a family, which is hard as we have age range from 11-1 so hard to please everyone!
  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?
Try and make a proper plan of what you want to do together and stick to it!
WheresTheCoffee · 18/07/2018 08:32

How have you found the challenge so far?
Fine to begin with, but I keep forgetting to log it.

  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team?
8
  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?
Mainly walking/hiking
  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?
Not yet
  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge
It's a good way to help get the children engaged
  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?
I found planning our activities the day before helpful
smallbean · 18/07/2018 08:55

How have you found the challenge so far?
The idea is great but boiling weather and end of term busyness have made it a bit tricky
- How many hours have you clocked up as a team?
Only one hour as a team, we probably could have logged more as the children are walked to school every day, but only by one parent, it says the whole team must complete. Also we’ve had one child on a residential so were unable to log anything we did during that time.
- How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?
Mainly making an effort to walk places, but it has been hot and the air conditioned car is very tempting!
- Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?
I had a look, have been saving them for when the kids break up
- What has been your favourite thing about the challenge
I think it will be a good focus for the kids (and us) to keep our activity levels up during the summer holidays when there is less structure in our routine
- What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?
Have a plan with regards to how you’re going to complete it, maybe set aside a regular slot for it.

hutchy73 · 18/07/2018 12:05

How have you found the challenge so far?
We have enjoyed the challenge as we try to be as active as we can anyway as a family
How many hours have you clocked up as a team?
We have clocked up lots of hours but I have not logged them all
How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?
My kids love Jack Jack the best, so we checked out his challenges first We have a small garden so we were encouraged to get a badminton set and all play that together as the weather has been so good, and also a netball post.
-Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?We have checked out all the suggested missions and there are some great ideas
What has been your favourite thing about the challenge
It is always good to put that extra bit of effort into spending time together and this is a fun way of doing that with some great ideas that I will carry into the Summer holidays
-What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?
Give the challenges a go as there is something for everyone and is great fun. Sends a positive message about how exercise can be fun

mshell1231 · 18/07/2018 21:31

  • How have you found the challenge so far?
Quite difficult to get everyone together at the same time tbh
  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team? 1h 20
  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?
We hid rocks in the park and then played in the playground together
  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?
No because after a while I forgot I was supposed to be doing it! I might come back to it for activity ideas when i’m Struggling to come up with things to do for the day.
  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge
Getting together as a family
  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing this challenge?

I think I would have gone better if I was competing against friends families and regularly posting on fb about it, could then feed off each other for ideas. I wonder if my children are just that tiny bit too young for it though, also with my DH working during the week and me on Saturdays, 24 hours felt like a lot of time to clock up. Sure it’s different with older children though, my oldest child is 4.

CatatonicLadybug · 18/07/2018 22:22
  • How have you found the challenge so far?
Good fun and a handy reality check for how much group activity we have in our usual schedule versus what we can put in if we put our minds to it!
  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team?
Around six at the moment, but with a good routine going so we know we'll finish without trouble.
  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?
We're swimming and doing some yoga regularly, plus other things as one-offs. We also walk together a lot but decided not to include that unless it was a big hike, because we wanted to challenge ourselves to do other things.
  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?
We haven't been using those specifically but have used the film-themed family exercise videos on the DisneyFamily blog. DS is a huge fan of those.
  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge
4yo DS set us the task of all being able to do a cartwheel by the end of summer, which I thought was really creative! (Or I might just be amused at watching DH try!)
  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?

Just give it a go and see what you notice about your schedule. We found that we all have lots of active things in our routine but aside from walking (we are city dwellers without a car), we were basically doing all our exercise individually, or maybe one parent with DS. Now partly that's because both DH and I choose to have our limited child-free time be exercise time! But we definitely want to do more all together, and this was a fun way (especially for a Disney-mad family) to evaluate how we could do that!

BookShop · 19/07/2018 07:01
  • How have you found the challenge so far?

Not very challenging. We spend a lot of time as a family together anyway. The only challenge is remembering to log the activities.

  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team?

12 or so but the website is poorly designed and crashes on my phone so I’ve given up logging them.

  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?

Swimming and walking.

  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?

No, I’ll look at them later.

  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge

The kids love a target so that motivated them.

  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about

Give it a try. You’ve nothing to lose. It’s rather fun.

Kimali87 · 19/07/2018 13:02

What an amazing idea this was! We had so much fun and even went out for an extra 45 minutes when my husband got home from work daily which our children enjoyed so much.

We went swimming, walking, but hunts, treasure hunts, bike riding, obstacle courses and so much more!

I highly recommend everyone to get involved:) x

ikkle87 · 19/07/2018 16:49

How have you found the challenge so far?

I loved the idea of the challenge and the encouragement to get up and moving great but found the tracking activity a bit part a bit off putting as I kept forgetting and then the idea of it being to get people off technology and moving to then need to use technology to track things a bit Alien.

  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team?
I haven’t kept an accurate track but I felt that any extra movement was better than no movement.
  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?
We’ve done walking, gymnastics, swimming, dancing.
  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?
Not exclusively but have used the idea of being our favourite characters to make walks and things more fun.
  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge
Getting more active and being able to have fun with my boys.
  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?
Go for it. Make it fun and keep at it and don’t worry too much about tracking everything because that’s more likely to put you off and make it seem like a chore. Any extra activity is good.
supermariossister · 19/07/2018 16:53
  1. We have been doing the activities but i think it was aimed at those younger than my dc and they didnt enjoy the whole planning and recording activity element
We havent been logging the hours

Mainly walking,swimming, dog walks

No we havent been using the missions and apps i think in hindsight i should of realised they would find it a bit young for them.

bridgetosomewhere · 19/07/2018 16:56

We have been on holiday for the last 10 days and it really gave us an incentive to do active things. We clocked up 6 hours alone in a water park!
  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?
Definitely do it in the holidays, set up activities in the garden, borrow a dog if you don’t have one!
cgraves · 19/07/2018 17:04

CaptainCaptain · 19/07/2018 17:10

Thanks for the reminder and sorry for being late - such a busy time of year!

How have you found the challenge so far?
We are a medium-active family, I haven't found the challenge made any difference to our family. We enjoy being active and don't really need any extra motivation - I thought this would be fun but found actually having to log the hours a bit painful!

How many hours have you clocked up as a team?
Well I kind of gave up logging them so I'm not sure however "as a team" we do an hours school run each day; swimming once a week and something active at the weekend - so at least 7+ hrs a week.

How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?
As well as daily walking and weekly swimming, we went for a cycle in the park. Spent time running about on the beach. Went trampolining.

Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?
No

What has been your favourite thing about the challenge
The possibility of winning something...

What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?
Do try to log regularly - its a pain to do it all at once later!

Trinidading3 · 19/07/2018 17:15
  • How have you found the challenge so far?
Ok bit hot with the heatwave we are experiencing. How many hours have you clocked up as a team? Six hours so far. How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together? Tennis, walki Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?ng, cycling and football. No. What has been your favourite thing about the challenge? The extra fun bits we have had along the way, and all this extra time spent together with special memories e.g my brother coming along and cycling full speed down a steep hill on my 5 year old's rocket bike and also doing a few laps of the park to the total amusement of everyone, what a sight it wasGrin. What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge? Definitely do it its more fun than you think.Football
Kimali87 · 19/07/2018 17:47

How have you found the challenge so far?

Walking, bike rides, swimming, bug hunts, treasure hunts and lots more

  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?

No

  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge

Spending extra time together

  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?

It's great fun you need to get involved!!

  • How have you found the challenge so far?
Good but I must admit I do forget, it would be great to have as an app with a notification reminding you.
  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team?
Not many, my daughter does a lot of after school dance and that doesn't count as it's only as a family. Therefore only the odd hour at the weekend.
  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?
Mostly walking the dog or riding the pony.
  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?
No, not seen those.
  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge
Doing this as a family but to be honest we have done the things anyway whether on the challenge or not.
  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?
Have a go, there is no commitment
