This activity is now closed

This is the feedback thread for the MNers who have both completed and are still working on finishing the Disney 24 Hour Challenge. Disney are looking for as many families as possible to sign up to take part in their new 24 Hour Challenge as part of Disney’s Healthy living commitment. The challenge is to clock up a total of 24 hours worth of activity with your team between June and September.

If after reading the feedback this sounds like something your family would be interested in, the challenge is still ongoing so please sign up here, create your team page and please select ‘Mumsnet’ when asked where you heard about the challenge.

Here’s what Disney have to say: “This summer Disney invites you to take part in the 24 Hour Challenge, a FREE, virtual challenge inspired by Incredibles 2, that you can do anywhere, at any time. Every week teams will have a chance to win Incredible prizes, including 10 weekly prize bundles worth £200 each and, if you complete all 24 hours, a holiday to Disneyland Paris to experience and take part in the Magic Run weekend, from 21st – 23rd September.

Families can clock up time doing activities they already enjoy (like walking, swimming, playing in the park), use our “missions” (inspired by the characters from the Disney/Pixar film Incredibles 2) as ideas to get started, or try something new!”

Testers please answer the following questions:

  • How have you found the challenge so far?
  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team?
  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?
  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?
  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge
  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?

Everyone who leaves feedback on the 24 Hour Challenge will be in with the chance of winning one of the following prizes:

  • Family ticket to the West End musical Aladdin + £200 for travel and accommodation**
  • Family ticket to Disney on Ice + £200 for travel and accommodation*
  • £100 voucher of their choice (from a list)

Thanks and good luck
MNHQ

  • How have you found the challenge so far?
We have found it great, bringing us as a family.
  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team?
We haven't actually counted the hours, just enjoyed time together.
  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?
We have taken up a national trust membership and gone for walks together, I have taken my children to my usual exercise class (kids friendly) We have been swimming.
  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?
No sorry
  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge
Spending time as a family away from the screens.
  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?
Go for it and enjoy the time together
littlemonkeyz · 16/07/2018 13:41

We have really enjoyed this challenge and the activities have really fired up my son's imagination.

We have clocked up 12 hours so far....

We have been doing a variety of activities both on our own and using the Mission HQ. We enjoyed doing Frozone's Laps and Lol's on our scooters and bikes. We painted some bottles and filled them with sand to do the superstrike bowling activity (and I lost!) and my son loved doing the incredible monkey bar mission with dad!

My favourite thing about the challenge are the Mission HQ ideas as often you can get stuck in a rut and can't think of new things to do. This gives you simple ideas that everyone can do, you don't need a lot of equipment or to spend money and they don't take a lot of planning or time.

I would say to other families that they should definitely give it a go. Don't try to do too much at once, get your children to pick a couple of the activities they would like to have a go at each week.... and if you're lucky you can get grandmas and grandads, aunties and uncles to sponsor you!

How have you found the challenge so far?
I thought it would be easy as we all do active activities but actually trying to do it all together has been hard!!

  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team?
Only about 5!!
  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?
Rock climbing is our main activity we all do together along with hiking.
  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?
No as we have been so busy lately
  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge
Although we all do exercise, eg gym, swimming, gymnastics, climbing, football etc it made me realise we don’t often do them together as a family of 5
  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?
Schedule in fun activities or add in a walk on the way to somewhere
welshmardymum · 16/07/2018 13:42

How have you found the challenge so far? we're loving it although its hard to remember to log our time!

  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team? 4 hours
  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together? we've been swimming which the kids loved and played tennis as i'm learning to play for precisely this reason for us all to play together!
  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?no
  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge - doing things together as a family, we are laughing a lot and i am loving that feeling of bonding with my children, especially the older one - laughing spontaneously bout something together is great
  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge? maybe all try something new so not one person is better than another
Disneyinmyveins · 16/07/2018 13:47

We have found the challenge positive so far, we have clocked up 18hrs by walking the dog along the beach, an hour out playing football each morning from 1st July.
We are really enjoying spending time together and I would say this is my favourite thing and watching the kids be children.
We haven’t used the missions but will have a look.
My advice would be to just do it as you are probably doing it without even realising.

BadlyWrittenPoem · 16/07/2018 14:04
  • How have you found the challenge so far?
I haven't really paid it a great deal of attention. I'm only in it for the prizes so I'm just clocking up stuff we do anyway when I remember.
  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team?
11
  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?
Swimming and walking.
  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?
No I wasn't that impressed as they seem rather contrived and we don't know any of the characters.
  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge
Nothing particular so far.
  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?
It's worth a go on the offchance you win something.
Ratbagcatbag · 16/07/2018 15:17
  • How have you found the challenge so far?
We started with the best intentions, but have dropped off quite quickly to be honest.
  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team?
We did around 3 hours in total, that I logged, but actually have lots more that I need to do.
  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?
Dancing, practicing handstands, going to the local waterpark and play park.
  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?
No
  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge
The idea is fab, but I've just struggled in the heat and it being a matter of existing plans making life more challenging. DD is still doing her normal busy activities so adding more in when she's already hot and sticky isn't working that well.
  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?
I'd try and plan what you're going to actually do, it's harder when you have to fit some in on spec rather than it being planned. It's great for encouraging one off family activities, but I'm not so great at the spontaneous stuff.
TheWizardofWas · 16/07/2018 15:27

How have you found the challenge so far?
I found it hard to remember to go to the website, but it was in the back of my mind and it encouraged me to get the children out more. This coincided with getting a step teacker for my dd so she has been extra keen to clock up steps, get moving. The weather helped too - when not too hot.

  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team?
I did not dock them but we have spent about 16 hours doing walking, running, water games, playing outside and would not have done so much were it not a stimulus.
  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?
long walks over the heatyn and parks foootball kickaround on local estate a skateboard race at the local festival water play in the park joined in on a local Capture the Flag game at the park tried a trial archery class walked to school twice (long way)
  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?
No
  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge
encouragement to do things together - all living better together.
  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?
Do it - but make it fun, not gruelling.
Goldilox2613 · 16/07/2018 16:02
  • How have you found the challenge so far?
Ok, but with little encouragement to complete.
  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team?
8.5 Hours
  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?
Walked, bike ride, trampoline, swimming
  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?
Looked through them for inspiration, but mostly winging it.
  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge
It’s easier to spend a lot of time on one activity than I imagined. It’s encouraged us adults to join in with the kids
  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?
Go for it, maybe create a shortcut on your phone to your team page, for regular activity logging.
leanneth · 16/07/2018 16:04

How have you found the challenge so far?

We’ve actually really enjoyed it! It’s made us stay longer at the park/ all join in on the trampoline etc as I feel accountable!

  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team? 15 but we’ve done more than that, I just haven’t logged them all.
  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?
Playing in the park- we make an effort to all join in and to stay for an hour as it’s easier to log! We’ve also done trampolining, dancing, swimming.
  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?
No, not yet. I thought I’d save that for when we need more motivation but at the moment we are just doing our usual things but for longer at a time.
  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge
Feeling accountable.
  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?
Try it, if nothing else it’s good fun! 😁
Goingovertosusanshouse · 16/07/2018 16:08
  • How have you found the challenge so far? We’ve signed up but not taken part yet.

  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge? Do it!!
KittyCrackers · 16/07/2018 16:27

How have you found the challenge so far?

It's been OK - as a PP said it's been more useful as an app to keep track of time we've spent doing activities, than inspiring us to get moving. We already do quite a bit!

  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team?

Only 10 because our team includes the stepchildren, who we have only EOW. If it could include ALL hours of exercise we'd be well over 100.

  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?
Cycling Swimming Geocaching Walks
  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?
Not really - the kids didn't seem that interested.
  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge
Keeping track of how much time we've been out together
  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?
Go for it - if you get the chance to something fun together, preferably outdoors, do!
hobbska · 16/07/2018 17:30

How have you found the challenge so far? I had good intentions but found it difficult to get the entire family involved. The kids do lots of sport so with this hot weather I haven't done anything else with them really.

  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team? 40 minutes I think. That's awful, isn't it?!
  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together? We did a 5k Bubble Rush run together.
  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ? No, they looked good, I just haven't got round to doing it.
  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge. The idea behind it was good.
  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge? Commit to it!
RhubarbAndCustards · 16/07/2018 17:42
  • How have you found the challenge so far?

We are normally an active family but have had a big and DD has been away. It will encourage us to do it together - we tend to do things in pairs!

  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team?

Only 3.

  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?

Walking and cycling so far.

  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?

No

  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge

The link to the Incredibles - they’re our favourite Disney family!

  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?

Try and log each day as you tend to forget to do it otherwise

Hopezibah · 16/07/2018 17:46

How have you found the challenge so far?
I think it's a great initiative and it got us moving initially. I didn't bother to log any hours and then it dropped off my radar to do so but the fact it got us together as a family having fun was good.

  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team?
Ended up not keeping track - very naughty!
  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?
Outdoors in garden, walking in countryside, swimming, tennis,
  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?
I looked at initially but then not since then
  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge

Keeping moving as a family. Making it fun.

  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?

Gives a bit of variety and encourages children away from gadgets. I would give the advice to use the resources as that will help stick to it which we kept forgetting to do.

DobbyLovesSocks · 16/07/2018 18:36
  • How have you found the challenge so far? Great. Though hard to get outside in the heat
  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team? 3-4
  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together? Played football, ridden a bike and gone for a walk
  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ? Not yet but planning to
  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge? Easy to follow
  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge? Do it! Great way to get more active
StickChildNumberTwo · 16/07/2018 20:07

How have you found the challenge so far?
I've mostly forgotten about it entirely, which is a shame because it sounded fun

  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team?
I think I've logged a couple, but we've done far more than that, although like others I found it pretty limiting to have to only list things we all did together - often I do things with one child or the other but not necessarily both together.
  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?
Walking would be our main one, but also swimming
  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?
nope
  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge
I like the idea of it, the reality hasn't really worked for us
  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?
No harm in giving it a go
Carinedp · 16/07/2018 20:21
  • How have you found the challenge so far? We started off being really enthusiastic about it but I think the interaction with the online challenge is not great so we lost interest a bit.
  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team? 6 h 20 min
  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together? We have been walking in the forest, playing in the park, dancing to music on Alexa, running with our dog, walking to school, climbing on the climbing frame etc.
  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ? We tried but I think if there were videos that you could dance along to etc we would have used it a lot more. By the time I’ve read the challenge, the kids have lost interest. I also think if there was a reminder email from the site to log your times, that would have made it easier to remember to log it too. I also would have liked to be able to log the actual activity when logging the time.
  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge. Spending more active time together as a family.
  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge? Start with the 5 min challenges and work up to longer activities like cycling or walking in the forest.
gemima27 · 16/07/2018 21:57

  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge

MNHQ - I have namechanged since signing up.

  • How have you found the challenge so far?
OK, but I must admit I signed up then forgot about logging time until this week! It has been in the back of my mind, though, and I have made the effort to get us all to go out and do things together over the past couple of weeks. Some activity has been curtailed by DD2 breaking her thumb playing football!
  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team?
Just over 10 so far, but we've probably done more that I forgot to log.
  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?
Playing in the garden, tennis, badminton, football, swimming.
  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?
No, must admit I hadn't seen those until just now.
  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge
Has made me think more about doing things all together.
  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?
Set a particular time each week to try a new activity/outing together.
AVL · 16/07/2018 23:44
  • How have you found the challenge so far?
I signed up but haven't taken part. I forgot all about it.
  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team?
None
  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?
We have just been doing our normal activities such as swimming and going to the park.
  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?
No
  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge
It is a good idea to get kids motivated.
  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?
Login regularly, and don't forget!
WhenDoISleep · 17/07/2018 10:17
  • How have you found the challenge so far?

It's been fun.

  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team?

As a team of 4 we have clocked up about 12 hours since signing up, which is lower than normal as we have been taking advantage of the fantastic weather on the weekends to do some much needed external house and garden maintenance. However, as individuals and in various combinations, we have definitely exceeded the target time, but because not all 4 of us took part we can't record it.

  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?

Mostly walking so far.

  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?

No.

  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge

Spending time together.

  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?

Remember that to log time, all members of the team most take part in the activity, so think about whether you include everyone. For me, if I was signing up again I would probably not include DH in the team, as we are restricted to only doing things as a family as the weekend due to his long working hours in the week.

rupert23 · 17/07/2018 11:08

We have enjoyed the challenge we have clocked up 24 hours doing walking and swimming. It has been fun doing it as a family.we have done lots of lon g walks with the dogs.
We haven't used the missions.my favourite thing is spending time outside with my family away from the tv. I would encourage other families to have a go over the summer as it is fun and spending time together is good with our busy lives.
