This is the feedback thread for the Mumsnetters who have tested Carphone Warehouse’s new Energy Saver service, either by going in store or via their app (Energy Saver on iOS and Google Play).

Here’s what Carphone Warehouse has to say: “We’re famous for getting people a better mobile deal. And now we’re using our expertise to help you save on your energy bill. Switching your energy supplier may seem like a lot of work – but don’t worry, that’s what we’re here for.”

Testers, please answer the below questions:

  1. Did you use the app or go in store to get your quote?
  2. How much did you/ could you save?
  3. How easy did you find the service to use?
  4. Would you recommend Carphone Warehouse Energy Saver to a friend or family member?

All selected testers who give their feedback will be entered into a prize draw where three MNers will win a £100 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list). PLUS if you’ve saved money and you’re happy to share this on Twitter, please do so using the Twitter handles @MumsnetInsight and @CPWTweets, plus the hashtag #cpwenergysaver to be entered into another prize draw where one MNer or GNer will win a £100 voucher for the store of their choice.

If you’re not a tester but you’d like to try the service out please feel free to do so. It’s useful to know who your energy supplier is and which tariff you’re on before you start, but the process should take just a few minutes (and the average saving is £273!)

Thanks and good luck!

1 - I used the app, would never get around to visiting a store to do this.
2- I may have got some information wrong as I got a monthly amount that was slightly higher than my monthly direct debit from my existing supplier ( npower).
3- Much easier to install and use than I anticipated. Like a PP though, I don't keep many apps on my phone due to space so will delete when I'ved tried again. I can see it would be handy for the few weeks of research/changeover though.
4- Yes, I'd recommend as was so easy to use. Thanks for the test!

  1. How easy did you find the service to use?
I found it a bit sticky - trying to put the amount I spent meant it kept takkng me back for some reason When you have to put your email address and post code in, often my phone will put those in for me but it didn’t with this app

I used the app

  1. How much did you/ could you save?

Nothing, all the other deals were more expensive.

  1. How easy did you find the service to use?

very easy BUT how useless is an app? Once you switched if you saved money, you are no doubt tied in to your new contract so it’s pointless having it on your phone!

  1. Would you recommend Carphone Warehouse Energy Saver to a friend or family member?

Probably not to be honest! My family aren’t really tech savvy and scared of changing their gas deal 🙄

not a tester but are these real savings on previous fixes? the usual model caculates versus the pricey variable tariff, not what people would have spent had their current fix continues.

with unit prices going up 10-15% annually, it is not possible to cut bills from fixes. so a crucial question is ' what would you save compared to your previous fix?'

  1. Would you recommend Carphone Warehouse Energy Saver to a friend or family member?
I would recommend this app to someone who wanted to compare their energy deals. But I would recommend along with other comparison sites like mse cheap energy club and comparethemarket. I found the mse cheap energy club found me the cheapest deal to save £263 a year.

  1. Did you use the app or go in store to get your quote?
I used the App and it was very straightforward. I didn’t even have to get the kids to help!
  1. How much did you/ could you save? £645 a year
  2. How easy did you find the service to use? It was really easy
  3. Would you recommend Carphone Warehouse Energy Saver to a friend or family member? I would. I have just changed energy providers after waiting 6 months for a new meter to Be fitted. Would recommend doing this yearly just as most of us do for car insurance

Used the app.

£129 a year saving.

Was very easy to use, however it would not find my address! It’s a 2 year old new build.

I’d recommend as nothing about it offended me, but would only do so when asked - it would occur to me to champion it.

OneThingAndThenTheNext · 31/05/2018 12:25

*wouldn’t occur to me to champion it.

Divorce18 · 31/05/2018 17:19
