This is the feedback thread for the Mumsnetters who have tested Carphone Warehouse’s new Energy Saver service, either by going in store or via their app (Energy Saver on iOS and Google Play).

Here’s what Carphone Warehouse has to say: “We’re famous for getting people a better mobile deal. And now we’re using our expertise to help you save on your energy bill. Switching your energy supplier may seem like a lot of work – but don’t worry, that’s what we’re here for.”

I hadn't realised that we were on a fixed rate, so just now it says the cheapest on offer would cost an extra £9 per month, BUT it was super easy to change the app to quote me on what I'll save after the fix ends in June, & that was £357!! It has made me so determined to change providers & not just let it go onto to their standard tariff next month!

It was fairly straight forward once you have your information to hand, however the tariff I'm on didn't come up as an option on the app so I picked the one nearest.

I used the app, I could save £111. Very easy and simple to use Id recommend this to anyone for a quick check

I used the link above to see if I could save money and although the results said that I could save nearly £350 by switching to Bulb when I clicked on the tariff info the tarfiff is actually almost exactly the same as I pay now and would save me nothing to switch.

I'd be extremely wary about relying on the results of this app and would urge everyone to check very carefully before making a switch.

3. How easy did you find the service to use? Yes. I didn't have my usage to hand so used their estimating tool which was probably fairly accurate I think

4/ I would recommend this app. I tested it on assumed usage as I didn’t know offhand the split between our gas and electricity prices. The estimated usage/bill was about £5 a month more than we pay so a relatively good estimate on the face of it. However we are about £500 in credit so the quoted saving was probably a lot more than it should have been (had I used proper and actual figures)

I used the app on my smartphone to access the site.

The app claimed I could save £53 a year.

The app was very easy to use - very quick to install. I had no problems giving the correct information and although I said I did not know how much energy we used the questions it asked very accurately predicted the actual amount.

I might recommend this for a brief look but I would then ensure that the company that was being recommended was thoroughly checked out. The two companies that came in cheaper than mine - I switched to a very good deal about 6 months ago - I had never heard of before and there are lots of new, small companies about who are having problems with customer service as they grow and become more popular. Other comparison sites allow users to leave reviews of the company they are using and you can see the kind of problems that occur. You can then decide if £50 a year is worth the potential - and in some cases seemingly inevitable - problems. My present deal was third on the list and it wasn't exactly the cheapest when I took it out for the above reason. So get the basic information and then check out the company thoroughly would be my advice.

I would I think any comparisons you can use are worth doing before switching. I tend to use one linked with quidco for cashback, but only if it’s still giving me the best deal (plus the cashback

I was advised I could save up to £99 per year. I thought I was already on the cheapest tariff possible, so this was welcome news!

It was really easy to use. I didn't have to spend too long entering info & I was able to get the quote within a couple of minutes.

Definitely. It only takes a few minutes, & it might save you a significant amount per year. It's certainly worth a try. Many people groan & roll their eyes when you mention energy switching or energy comparison sites - but this is a really quick way of getting a quote & you can do it all without reaching for your laptop :)

I used the app.

Saving was only around £30. Maybe because I switched recently to a cheaper tariff.

I found the service extremely easy to use.

I would have no problem recommending to a friend.

Additionally, it would be good if it was made clear upfront what incentives they offered for switching via their service.

Very easy to use, just filled in my details and then it came up with a list of providers and how much I could save with each by switching.

I would definitely recommend it to family and friends as a tool to use, I'm not sure that an app is necessary as you'd only use it once every few years and I don't like lots of apps clogging up my phone, but it is a good tool.
