We were asked by the team at Nokia to find 25 MNers to try their Smart Temporal Thermometer and report back for Mumsnet. Read on to see what they think!

Non testers - for a chance to win your very own Nokia Smart Temporal Thermometer (RRP £90), please share on this thread your best tips for reducing high temperatures in your small children - what works best at making them feel better quickest? Add your comment and you will be entered into a prize draw where one tester will win one.

What is the Nokia Smart Temporal Thermometer (RRP £90)?

"The smartest way to take care of the whole family
A temporal thermometer that accurately and easily measures temperature with automatic sync with the Nokia Thermo app.

Now a fast, effortless gesture yields accurate results and provides an automatic sync with the dedicated app. In app, you can track temperature readings, get reminders, and input related symptoms and medications for fever management advice right on your smartphone.

High Accuracy & Ultra-fast measurement
Thermo measures from the temporal artery considered an ideal place to detect temperature changes, as the blood that circulates there comes from the core of the body.
As Thermo sweeps across the forehead, 16 infrared sensors take over 4,000 measurements in a few seconds to find the hottest point.

Sanitary – non-invasive
Unlike traditional methods, Thermo avoids any contact with saliva, earwax or other body fluids — making it an extremely sanitary way to take one’s temperature.
Lights-off measurement allows a child to sleep while keeping tabs of fever.

Instant colour-coded feedback
Readings appear illuminated on the device along with a colour-coded LED indicator to tell you if the temperature is normal, elevated or high.

In-app fever management
The Thermo app allows to track the temperature of up to 8 users.
In addition to tracking temperature and symptoms, users can enter comments, medications, and even photos in any user profile. This helps to see if the treatment is effective and allows to have a complete history to share with a doctor."

Best tips I have for reducing high temperatures is a cold damp flannel, lots of fluids, removing any layers and nice ol' fan :)

Nice and simple :)

lastkisstoo · 16/11/2017 22:36

I find running a cool bath and popping them in there with some toys to keep them amused is a great way to cool them down quickly.

Hajra5611 · 16/11/2017 22:48

Keep minimal clothing on child
Keep room temp medium
Every few hours give ur lil one Paracetamol and Ibruprofen as a back up if needed
Ensure Fluids are topped up regularly with a balance of Food “Mummy’s Chicken Soup
Most importantly loads of cuddles, snuggle up on sofa, watch childs fav movies and smile x

Tester
~ How did you experience the installation / unboxing of your product and app download?
I was impressed by the packaging of the product. It gives a luxury feel before you even touch the thermometer itself. I found the app very straightforward to use

~ What do you like best about your Nokia Thermo? (design, functionality, connectivity, etc.)
I really like the simplicity of the design. It makes it very user friendly.

~ How easy is it to bring your Nokia Thermo on the go?
Very easy! Its nice and small so easy to tuck into a changing bag or handbag

~ In what circumstances did you use your Nokia thermo? (at night, for baby, for yourself? Etc.)
We have been poorly since receiving the product (quite well timed really) so it has been used on every member of the family!

~ How useful is the lights-off measurement of the Nokia thermo?
I found it quite useful but when my son is poorly he sleeps like a rock anyway

~ How do you like the in-App health overview for each of your family members?
I really liked this feature.

~ Was in-app fever management with comments, medication and photos helpful to you?
I didn't really find this feature helpful at all. I would still rather trust my own instincts or ask my mum

~ Have you used a connected thermometer before? Which one and how did you find it?
No this was my first

~ What is your experience of a connected temporal thermometer in comparison to traditional methods?
I much prefer this product to the traditional methods

~ Would you recommend Nokia Thermo?
Yes I would. I have already to family members. The price is on the expensive side and I am not sure how accurate the readings can be but I do like the thermometer and have found it useful

Strip off
Lots of fluids
Calpol

Pigeonpea · 17/11/2017 13:49

Cool bath and lots of fluids

hannahbjm · 17/11/2017 21:55

Non tester - for me cool cotton clothes and a slight breeze through open window or fan

IceBearRocks · 17/11/2017 21:58

Non tester here

I'd be interested in this technology. We have disabled DC who and we HAVE to carry a thermometer with us. We use a Braun professional.
He spikes fever dramatically resulting in fevers and it is intrusive sticking the thermometer in his ear.

Our tips to cool s hot child.

Strip to as little as the can cope with.
Fan from a distance
Paracetamol
Cool fluids.

Always beware not to cool too quickly ....

After an hour ibruprofen.

No reduction in fever. Call 111.

This is a monthly occurance for us but usually involves a paramedic and a big van !!!!

DaisyDando · 18/11/2017 07:58

Non-tester. After a recent injection, we gave our DS Calpol and stripped him down to his nappy. Didn’t help his rosy cheeks though.

Non tester. If temperature is high give calpol and plenty of water or fluids. If temperature persists contact doctor. Plus lots of cuddless

wwwwwwwwwwwwww · 18/11/2017 16:57

I give paracetamol and ibuprofen.

Smellophant87 · 18/11/2017 17:28

Good old calpol everytime! But also, light, thin clothes & bedding. Offer lots of fluids and put them in a bath that isn't too hot for a bit.

Debsie123 · 18/11/2017 21:46

Calpol always does the trick for mine to reduce their temperature.

Caelaj07 · 19/11/2017 09:59

Calpol, a drink, minimal clothing and cuddles

Flickabella36 · 19/11/2017 10:17

Non tester

I find cold drinks, cool flannels, loose clothing, layered sheets and paracetamol help temperatures lower. Rest and company help mine feel better

katieskatie82 · 19/11/2017 10:18

non tester- calpol and a cold compress on the forehead

zebedee01 · 19/11/2017 13:49

Give them calpol, open a window and keep them cool! You can also give them ibuprofen too, but I usually wait to see if temp comes down first as I find it is best to stagger them, that way you can keep on top of pain and high temps x

Emmy011 · 19/11/2017 14:28

Non-tester:

Spoonful of calpol, plenty of water, a cold flannel, and some rest

JayJay1874 · 19/11/2017 14:35

go for more breathable fabrics, regular cold towels on the forehead, and staying well hydrated.

cluckyhen · 19/11/2017 14:35

non-tester.

Calpol and a cool damp cloth on the back of the neck works best for us as do iced drinks.

Cucumbercalm · 19/11/2017 16:54

Non tester - the age old tradition of a cold flannel on the forehead always helps and provides instant comfort.

bcd2009 · 19/11/2017 20:49

Calpol/Paracetamol generally works great on its own. In one case we had to use an old home remedy from my parents. Wrap wet coolish (not freezing cold though!) towels around the little one's calves. Within 15 minutes the temperature came right down.

grannybiker · 19/11/2017 21:24

Non tester - Paracetamol and a cool flannel on the head. Old fashioned but effective ;) I also find a luke-warm rather than cool shower works well, especially if you let them drip dry while being cuddled in the towel,

hpsauce84 · 19/11/2017 22:14

Calpol!
