Who did you try the sun cream on?

Two children aged 10 and 6.

Where did you go on holiday?
Mallorca

How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?
I feel that the sun protection provided is certainly up there with the other big names, with good uv protection etc.
Most days that we used this, the protection was good. One day however when the 10 yr old was in and out of the pool all day, he did burn. However, it was potentially more than 3 hours between applications.

What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
Product easy to apply and soaks into skin fast. No smell. Doesn't react with sensitive skin. Would be nice if it doesn't stain clothes!

What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?
The lotion went on easily enough but it was sticky. Took a while to settle into skin. It was a pain to reapply on the beach on sandy skin. Fragrance was unremarkable (this is a good thing).

Would you buy this sun protection again?
Yes I would.
Why?
Trusted brand, gave good protection to skin. Only one person burnt at all whilst using it.

Who did you try the sun cream on?
Myself and two DC aged 8 & 3
Where did you go on holiday?
Holland
How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?
I was pretty confident. It is a well known brand and a high SPF. There were no signs of sunburn.
What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product? Level of protection and price.
What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?
The lotion took a while to rub into the skin due to its thick texture but I assume this is part of why it is so long lasting. The fragrance was fine - I am in early pregnancy and strong / chemical fragrance are making me feel ill which this product didn't so big thumbs up there!
Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?
Probably not. I thought it was a great product, long lasting and provides good protection but the children didn't like the sticky feeling and the fact that sand sticks to it quite badly. The eldest particularly would rather reapply more often!

I really liked this suncream.
I used it on me and my two sons, we are all very pale skinned and my youngest is a redhead and burns instantly. So I always use factor 50 and I have to know it's going to work and stay on.
We went to Greece and it was 40 degrees. My redhead's skin didn't even go red. A few freckles came out and he looked healthy at the end of the holiday but he didn't go red or burn at all.

I loved the smell - a fresh fragrance, not heavy. It was thick to apply and you could feel it soak in but it wasn't greasy at all. And it meant you could tell if it was still on and hadn't been rubbed off. I did reapply every 2-3 hours. The boys don't like having cream put on but they didn't mind this too much. We were all in and out of the water and on the beach all day. I did feel confident it was working but like I say I did reapply and I don't think I'd ever feel confident enough to only apply once a day in that kind of heat.

Overall I loved it and will definitely buy it again.

Who did you try the sun cream on?
My super active 7 year old.
Where did you go on holiday?
Sunny Devon!
How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?
Very confident! It was really good! No sunburn at all despite being in and out of the sea and running about on the beach in boiling sunshine!
What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
Good protection, ease of application and smells good.
What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?
It was quite heavy and sticky but not as chalky and difficult to rub in as other factor 50 kids creams I've used in the past. I really prefer spray on sun protection as it's much quicker to apply to a leaping child! The fragrance was nice.
Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?
No, although it performed really well it stained white clothing and towels yellow!

Who did you try the sun cream on? Where did you go on holiday?
I tried it on my two DDs aged 8 and 6, we went to France camping.

How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?

I was confident in the product as it is a brand I have heard of and the sun protection looked good, factor 50, UVA and UVB protection.

What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?

Ease of use, price, protection level, water resistance.

What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?

Fragrance was fine, but it was thick and sticky to apply, took a while to rub in. We already had another spray with us which the children preferred to use.

Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?

No because of the thickness and amount of time it took to apply. Would rather apply more often. The kids didn't like it.

We (myself and five year old Daughter)tried this suncream over several different days - sunny, cloudy, on the beach, paddling at the beach. It was brilliant and gave great cover. The only downside was it went quite hard in the tube in-between uses.

Ratbagcatbag · 06/09/2017 20:39

Suncream was used on my four year old daughter. She went off to Spain with her dad for a week at the end of august.
We were very confident in it providing excellent protection as the whole range is highly rated. DD was in the pool all day and it was great to know it only needed a couple of applications as it was safe for up to three hours.
For me, priorities when choosing suncream are as chemical free as possible, doesn't dry skin out/cause a reaction but equally doesn't stay greasy once dried (I obviously don't want much!!)
DD dad thought the cream went on very well. Even between swimming top ups. It was thick but that's not an issue and overall the scent was in line with what you'd expect for suncream.
Would we use this again, yes, especially if going on holiday where the expectation is the pool all day. Well also use it for the last days of summer (wishful thinking) for school starts as if applying at 8am it will still provide protection at lunch time.
I do shop around for special offers on suncream generally so would look at the price point on it and maybe wait until it came on offer too.

slightlydomesticated · 06/09/2017 22:03

Who did you try the sun cream on? Where did you go on holiday?
I tried it on my kids 4yrs and 2years and myself. It arrived too late for our holiday abroad so I used it
Only in the U.K.
How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?
Quite confident, it is a known brand, and one that I've used for myself in the past. The kids didn't burn and neither did I (and I tend to go from opaque to red rather fast)
What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
SPF, application type, price and package sizing.
What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?
I found it so easy to apply, especially to a toddler who can't/won't normally stay still for more then 2 seconds. The fragrance made me think of holiday, so I liked it.
Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?
I would buy this cream again because I felt that it was really good protection for my kids, I know the brand and I just liked trying it.

PinkPanther27 · 08/09/2017 00:19

Back from holiday and will be adding my feedback tomorrow

MuvvaHubbard · 08/09/2017 22:01

I used the cream on my 3, 5 and 9 year old. My husband used it too.
We used it in Menorca.
I was quite confident in the product as it offered extended sun protection and water resistance.
It's important that sun protection has high uva and spf. It has to be suitable for sensitive skin, and ideally water resistant if we're on holiday.
The cream was easily to apply, however it was quite thick so didn't sink into the skin as quickly as other creams we've used. It had a pleasant fragrance.
I would possibly buy the cream again if the price was right, My kids & husband didn't get burnt so I was happy with the creams effectiveness. The main problem was the cream left stains on clothing.

PinkPanther27 · 09/09/2017 00:07

Who did you try the sun cream on? Where did you go on holiday?
We used the sun cream on our 2 children aged 8 and 5 when we went on holiday to Italy. It was late 20's/early 30's so quite hot.

How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?
I was a bit worried as it is obviously a product that you apply once per day a.d the kids were going swimming and going out in the evening so I was concerned it wouldn't last or offer enough protection. My son always burns under his eyes so this was the real test. The suncream passed the test! :-) He was ever so slightly redder under his eyes but this was temporary (so could have been caused by something else) and nothing compared to how red he is when using other brands.

What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
The level of protection, price, application, and fragrance (in that order).

What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?
It was very easy to apply and a little went a long way however it was quite sticky and the children weren't keen on the off white fragrance. However these issues did not really affect us.

Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?
Yes I would because of the protection it offered and the ease of being able to relax and not have to worry about reapplying the cream later on.

DumbledoresArmy · 10/09/2017 14:26

Who did you try the sun cream on? Where did you go on holiday?
We just used the cream out and about, camping & playing outside in the garden.
How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?
I was confident as the brand Soltan is rated very well.

What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
That it actually offers the protection.

What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?
Easy to put on & fragrance was fine as far as sun creams go.

Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?
I would definitely buy the brand again. Not sure if I would order spf50 though. Probably spf30.

Meinthecorner · 11/09/2017 13:58

Who did you try the sun cream on? Children aged 1 and 4 and myself
Where did you go on holiday? Belgium
How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child? It was easy to see where it had been applied or not and I trust Boots to make an effective sunscreen
What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product? High ratings for UV-A and UV-B and high SPF.
What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion? Fragrance was pleasant not too strong. It was quite thick so required a lot of rubbing in.
Would you buy this sun protection again? Why? I probably would. It did the job well.

Weddingbelle123 · 11/09/2017 14:42

I used this suncream on my 3 children aged 8/4/2
We went to Italy.
One of the children is a typical Irish girl- red hair/ pale.
Another has very sensitive skin/ eczema.
The cream was great. Long lasting protection( we applied in the morning and then again at lunch)and very mild/ no itchy eyes even after facial use.
No sunburn at all ( except for the one occasion my husband applied a different brand suncream)
I would highly recommend.

Newquaywinner · 11/09/2017 15:12

Grasshopper123 · 11/09/2017 16:19

Who did you try the sun cream on?

I tried the Suncream on my three children aged 3, 5 & 6.

Where did you go on holiday?
We went to Devon, south coast.

How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?
One of my children has particularly sensitive skin where we have to be extra careful when in the sun. We were in Devon in August where the weather was hot - she didn't burn after application of the suncream and we didn't use all of the additional measures that we usually use such as cover up/ sun hat.

What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
That it works, and feels nice to the skin. It's got to be a non irritant so it doesn't flare up skin irritation for one of my children.

What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?
The fragrance was nice and not overpowering like some sun creams. The application was fine also, although the cream was quite thick and it took a long time to sink in. Left a non greasy feel once it dried/ sank in though.

Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?
Yes - it worked well and did not irritate my child's skin, when some creams do. It smelt nice and seems good value to buy. I like the idea of not having to reapply as frequently as we go through lots of cream some days when the weather is hot.

Smile

BigBroIsWatching · 11/09/2017 22:56

We tried the sun cream on my two eldest, as they were in and out of the sea, on holiday. They are 6 and 8.

We had a holiday in the U.K.

I felt very confident that it provided adequate coverage and protection, due to how thick it was to apply!

The most important thing to me when choosing a cream, is how many stars it has. I will always choose 5 stars. Also if it provided once a day application, due to being at school etc

It was slightly tricky to apply as it was so thick, which meant children getting bored of standing there. It took a long time to sink in even though I had rubbed it in adequately. However, this reassured me it was providing protection. The fragrance was ok, as we prefer less artificial smells and felt this was ok.

Yes I would buy it again, as it provided the right amount of coverage even after the kids had swum for a short while. I applied it a few hours later, as stated in the bottle.

MummyBexta · 12/09/2017 18:53

Who did you try the sun cream on?
My 2 year old daughter.

Where did you go on holiday?
Center Parcs, UK

How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?
Very. Especially because factor 50, five UVA stars and Boots is a brand I trust.

What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
5 UVA stars. Good value for money. High factor.

What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?
Liked the fragrance. Application ok, although I personally prefer spray bottles.

Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?
Yes - due to reasons stated above. And if it was a good price.

HavingAnOffDAy · 13/09/2017 15:09

Who did you try the sun cream on? Where did you go on holiday?
I used this on my 6 year old son, in Turkey & Spain

How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?
Very. Factor 50, 5* UVA & I've used Soltan products before on my DC without any issues

What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
Ease of application (nothing too thick/hard to rub in), SPF (always choose 50 for my DC, and suitability for children - my DD had a reaction to 'adult' suncream.

What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion? Great - really easy to apply & a pleasant smell.

Would you buy this sun protection again? Yes Why? It did the job brilliantly

TheHobbitMum · 14/09/2017 22:00

Who did you try the sun cream on?
My 4 children DD1 16 , DS 15, DD2 11 & DD3 9

Where did you go on holiday?
Crete, Greece

How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?
Very, as a factor 50 and from Boots who I trust I was confident the children were well protected

What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
5 UVA stars. Good value for money. High factor. Easily applied

What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?
The fragrance was fine and the lotion was a bit thick so we found it could be hard to get an even coating. I prefer spray bottles for easy application

Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?
Yes - due to reasons stated above. And if it was a good price or was in an offer (3 for 2 etc)

Chocolateisnottheonlyfruit · 14/09/2017 22:27

Who did you try the sun cream on? My boys aged 6 and 3.

Where did you go on holiday? We went to Cornwall.

How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child? I am confident it did a good job and protected by children.

What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product? Ease of application is the main thing or it won't actually get used. Then the sun protection has to have good staying power so I don't have to keep re-applying it.

What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion? I liked the product and it was easy to use and didn't smell too strongly of chemicals like other brands.

Would you buy this sun protection again? Why? Yes I think I would - it's proven to be a good product for us to use and as it's widely available to purchase that makes it appealing too.

imablackstarnotapopstar · 15/09/2017 15:03

I loved the Soltan kids once water play! We went to Turkey and spent the whole day in a water park with no sunburn! Excellent!

Elvisola · 15/09/2017 15:10

Unfortunately I was unable to test the product as it arrived the day after I went on holiday. We haven't had any sunny days since.

Hopefully l will get to try it next year - we are off to Florida so a good all day cream will be invaluable.

scotchpie · 15/09/2017 15:46

This arrived too late for our holiday.
