My son age 9 was in the water in Spain for an hour and a half and burned.
Really quite badly.
He was just in the water, no towelling, or in the sand, just splashing and playing with a ball.

confusedofengland · 29/08/2017 23:20

Who did you try the sun cream on? Where did you go on holiday? I used this sun cream on my 3 sons, ages 8, 6 & 3. We were in the UK (where it has been very hot over the last few days)!
How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child? I was confident that this product provided excellent sun protection for my children.
What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product? Most important to me is that it offers excellent protection against UVA & UVB rays. Ease of application & fragrance are also important - my boys do not like having sun cream applied & will wriggle, so if it takes too long there is a danger they will not get covered thoroughly.
What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion? I found the lotion very thick & sticky to apply & near impossible to wash off my hands once I had finished! This seemed unpleasant to me & my DC. The fragrance was pleasant enough.
Would you buy this sun protection again? Why? I would not buy this suncream again. The texture of it was very unpleasant, which has really put me off. I also noticed that it stains clothes, which is not good.

Who did you try the sun cream on?
Our son who is 5.
Where did you go on holiday?
Majorca in august
How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?
Pretty confident. We used in in combination with a UV suit - top and shorts and a hat, so only had to apply to arms legs face etc. We applied in the morning and again at lunch time.
What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
Star rating, factor rating, ease of application
What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?
Thick and sticky but the spray version that I bought to take is much nicer.
Would you buy this sun protection again?
Yes but the spray

Who did you try the sun cream on? Where did you go on holiday?

Our family holiday this year was Kos Greece, but this sun lotion arrived a few days after we left......so we tested this one when we got back here in the sunny UK.

WE tested this as a family : mum, dad and 3 kids (13,8,2)

How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?

I felt very confident that the product would protect my kids against the sun, because it's a brand I trust.

What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?

Long protection. Texture and ease of use. Suitable for sensitive skin. Added water protection.

What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?

Application was easy enough, but I did find the product a little on the thick side and difficult to rub into a squirmy two year old. I usually buy spray for the kids, it's just easier. Fragrance was generic but not offensive in anyway.

Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?

Sure, it worked well and I felt confident it was helping to protecting the kids from the sun. Of course it would depend on price and what offers were available. I would also prefer a spray bottle instead if that variety was available.

Thanks for selecting us and letting us try the product. Unfortunate that it arrived whilst we were away in Greece but still managed to give it a go here at home.

SweetLuck · 30/08/2017 12:15

Who did you try the sun cream on?

DD

Where did you go on holiday?

Italy

How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?

It was so thick I felt confident that it would protect her

What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?

Water resistance and ease of application.

What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?

Fragrance was fine. Found it very thick to apply, texture like clay.

Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?

No, I didn't like the texture.

delilahbucket · 30/08/2017 12:32

Who did you try the sun cream on? DS aged 9. Where did you go on holiday? Greece.
How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child? Not very confident.
What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product? Ease of application, water resistant, good for sensitive skin.
What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion? Hated the application. The cream was far too thick, took forever to rub in and was sticky. Fragrance was ok.
Would you buy this sun protection again? No. Why? It was no better at protecting than the Amber Solaire we usually use. The consistency is awful even if it is water resistant, it was no more so than any other brand. We used it once and that was the end of that.

pinkunicornsarefluffy · 30/08/2017 15:02

Further feedback - it has been quite hot and sunny here the past few days. DD went in the pool at my parents, and I covered her in the Soltan cream.

She was in the water for over 4 hours and did not burn at all.

BrawneLamia · 30/08/2017 16:04

Who did you try the sun cream on? Where did you go on holiday?
I tried the sun cream on my dc (aged 4 and 21 months) and also on myself as I have fair skin and burn easily. We holidayed in the UK, but got plenty of sunshine over the bank holiday weekend.

How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?
Very confident as I have used soltan products before (although not this one)

What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
High UV ratings and ease of application

What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?
It went on easily. The only time I had problems was when reapplying on the beach due to lots of sand getting in the cream, but that was hardly the fault of the suncream!

Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?
Yes although I would probably wait until it is on offer. I liked that the cream was easy to apply, had good UV ratings, and did not irritate anyone’s skin. It was ideal for us as the dc love going in the water and hate having suncream reapplied. The only problem was that it has left a slight yellow stain on one of the dc’s white tshirt.

Iamthemotherofdragons · 30/08/2017 16:44

Who did you try the sun cream on?

Myself and my two daughters aged 1 and 4.

Where did you go on holiday?

Florida

How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child

I liked that it was designed to offer good protection in the water as we swam a lot. I was happy that it was factor 50 and had good uv protection.

What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?

The factor and how easy it is to dispense and rub in.

What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?

It was quite thick but no harder to apply than other creams I've used. The fragrance was ok.

Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?

Yes but I would probably use it mainly for swimming as other creams are cheaper for daily use.

shuggas · 30/08/2017 18:06

Who did you try the sun cream on?

My three children 1,3 and 10

Where did you go on holiday?
Somerset then visited family in Hampshire

How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?

Absolutely confident you could clearly see on the labelling how good it was for protection and is very trustworthy as a brand

What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?

Faith and confidence that it will protect my children, ease of use with application also v important to me

What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?

Being completely honest I found it great for the younger ones to apply and I loved the colour so you could see where you had applied and could work with it nice and easily for it to absorb, it's thick but it didn't put me off at all, in fact it helped my confidence in the cream!

My eldest struggled with it a bit due to the thickness, she put hers on independently but due to the thickness got some in her eye when putting it on her face the first time, I think she is more used to a spray form though, and however after a bit of practice she quickly got used to it, and she liked that she could really see where she had applied and missed and did a much better job using this over the spray

Also when I washed my hands after application it was a good couple of washes and rinses for it to be gone so I knew it would stand the test of water fun.

I had no issues with the smell, I didn't particularly notice an odour. And best of all no sun burn especially after a full day out on the hottest bank holiday on recordGrin

Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?

Absolutely! It did what I wanted, it kept my children safe from the sun when they played in the paddle pool, the sea, or had grand days out in the beating sun. My eldest now prefers it to sprays, so why wouldn't I Smile

MrsGannicus · 30/08/2017 18:25

We used this sun cream on various days out in the UK over the summer holidays. Both of the kids used it as well as me and my husband as we like to use a high factor sun cream.

I was very confident in the protection as it was factor 50+ with UVA and UVB protection (this is the most important factor to me when choosing a suncream, followed by ease of application). We usually use a higher priced brand, but I'd heard really good things about Boots Soltan so was glad to have the chance to test it out.

My kids (6&4) really liked the cream. Even though it was quite thick, it went in to the skin easily. They liked the smell and didn't grumble at all putting it on. I thought the fragrance was good as well.

After trying this, I would now ditch my more expensive brand for this. I was really impressed at how the cream lasted and the protection it gave us all, especially on a day out to an outside splash park. Very pleased with the product!

Littlequaver2 · 30/08/2017 19:54

Who did you try the sun cream on? Where did you go on holiday?
DSs aged 3 and 1, me and my husband. We went to Disney but also used it in the UK.
How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?
Very. It was clear where the cream was on application so no missed bits and kept our very pale skin, pale.
What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
High protection factors, a brand we can trust, easy to apply and doesn't irritate sensitive skin. Water resistance is also essential.
What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?
I didn't mind the fragrance at all but my husband wasn't as keen. The lotion is very thick but easy enough to apply. However, it was very sticky afterwards which none of us liked.
Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?
I might if it came in a spray form as I find it easier to apply and would test to see if it was less sticky. I liked the protection it offered but don't we have used others with out the stickiness and I would rather re-apply if necessary.

Dnbkittie · 30/08/2017 20:33

Hi, see my answers below!

Who did you try the sun cream on? Where did you go on holiday?

My 2 year old daughter and was on holiday in the UK last weekend when it was lovely and hot!

How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?

Fairly due to rating on the front. And went on really nicely, nice coverage.

What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?

Rating of uva etc, good brand

What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?

Really easy to apply and great coverage. Usual suncream smell! No bother.

Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?

Yes as great brand, and was easy to apply and kept my daughter from burning in the sun

conserveisposhforjam · 30/08/2017 20:53

I've pm-ed you EmmaMN because I think I've missed an email somewhere about feedback? But assuming it's just this thread and these questions -

Who did you try the sun cream on? Where did you go on holiday?

2 children - 7 and 4 and both dh and myself - an unseasonably sweltering south of France.

How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?

I like Once brands - we can be a bit haphazard about reapplying (especially on ourselves) and because it's just one time a day for some reason that makes me more likely to actually do the sensible 'suncream on before we go out anywhere' thing.

What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?

High SPF, long lasting, good water resistance - we're all in the pool and the sea all day.

What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?

If I could do one thing to this brand it would be the fragrance but it's not an issue really, I'd rather the convenience of the long lasting formula and - if it came to it and I was asked 'more chemicals in this to make it smell nice?' I'd say no!

Would you buy this sun protection again?

Yes.

Why?

It tucks all our boxes and a sun cream that really works for us is vital on holiday. When I have accidentally picked up a non water resistant brand in the past for example it's been a total pain.

Flamingosrule · 30/08/2017 22:23

Who did you try the sun cream on?
I used this cream on my 9 and 10 year old .. my 18 year old also used a bit
Where did you go on holiday?
Spain ... it was 90+ degrees some days
How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?
I felt very confident using this! My children normally like a spray .. we had a little bit left over (well known trusted brand!) from an earlier holiday which they insisted on using. My son actually burnt his shoulders and was rather uncomfortable so I insisted they used this and slapped it on! It is much much thicker than the sprays but absorbs into the skin quickly. He was in the pool all day and at the end had no burning at all!
We are still in Spain and I hope this bottle lasts us for the remainder of our holiday!
What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
When it comes to my children and protecting them against the sun, price is irrelevant to me. I want them to get the very best protection and I feel this product more than fulfills that with its UVA and UVB protectors ... it has certainly proved this on our holiday!

What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?
It's really quite thick to apply (we are used to a spray). And it does take a while to scrub off the palms of your hands after ... but that's only a good thing as it proves that it doesn't dissolve in the pool or the sea!!!
Would you buy this sun protection again?
Absolutely ... although if a spray option was available then I would go for that instead.
Why?
My daughter never burns but my son does ... he did at the start of the holiday but he has been fine since using this! Great big thumbs up from us!

Thanks! 😘😘

VinIsGroot · 31/08/2017 08:41

Who did you try the sun cream on?
The cream was used on DS10, DS8 & DD6. Both DS have autism and HATE having suncream on.... Neither complained and it absorbed well.
Where did you go on holiday?
It arrived too late for a holiday but we used it in the paddling pool in the garden. My kids love water and we reapplying every 3 hours.
How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?
I thought this stuff was amazing...it felt think but absorbed well, it wasn't too smelly so that didn't put the boys off and they didn't have tan lines
What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
Highest SPF and UVA. Not smelly, not a spray bottle, absorbs quickly enough when I have two complaining autistic kids.
What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion? Easily absorbed and delicate fragrance
Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?
Yes .... It worked really well for us and we have tried most leading brands and generic brands out there. The boys can't handle a spray bottle at all so we are ready in what we can select!
Awesome product that I'll buy again!!! Thank you!

megjoe1 · 31/08/2017 10:39

Who did you try the sun cream on?

The sun cream was tested on children aged 17 months, 3 years, 4 years and myself and Do.

Where did you go on holiday?

We went on holiday to East Sussex.

How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?

I was extremely confident, it is a brand I trust and has excellent reviews so we were looking forward to testing.

What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?

When choosing a sun protection product the protection level is the most important factor, follows by the value for money.

What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?

The product was easy to apply although a little sticky to start with. The fragrance was as expected nothing out of the ordinary.

Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?

Yes as would by the product again as it is a brand I trust and it performed well.

Thank you for allowing us to test this product.

jacqui5366 · 31/08/2017 10:44

Who did you try the sun cream on? Where did you go on holiday?

I tried it on myself (shoulders and arms) an my 2 sons 4 and 7, we went to Portugal - just back :)
How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?

Boots is a brand I would always trust, and as it was a thick cream it was evident that it would be fine. My children did not burn, or even turn slightly pink (which they did last year using a supermarket own brand) even though they were in and out of the pool all day (I topped up shoulders and back - just in case)

What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?

That it is a brand that I trust and is a high factor. I always buy waterproof products so the children can have fun and stay skin safe.

What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?

It went in easily but I thought but I found it quite tacky, but that sis not seem to last. I would prefer the quick spray as it is difficult to keep excited little ones still whilst applying.

Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?

Yes I would, as it did the trick and is cheaper than the marker leaders.

thank you

SlurplePurple · 31/08/2017 14:18

Who did you try this sun cream on?
Dd 4 and d's 2
Where did you go on holiday? Within the U.K.
How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child? It was fab neither burnt at all.
What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product? High uva/uvb rating, decent price and non greasy.
What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion? It was a little bit greasy but much better than others I've tried. It applied easily and the fragrance was ok.
Would you buy this sun protection again? Why? Yes as it gave me peace of mind when they were playing in water.

BadlyWrittenPoem · 31/08/2017 19:36

Who did you try the sun cream on?
I tried it on my children aged baby to 10 years.
Where did you go on holiday?
I went to Leicestershire
How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?
I was very confident because it went on well and seemed to stay.
What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
The SPF and UVA protection.
What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?
It was fairly easy to apply and the smell was subtle enough that I didn't smell it all day on my hands after applying it to my children.
Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?
I probably would buy it again because it lasts long enough that one application is sufficient for the day and it doesn't smell too strongly.

AVL · 31/08/2017 20:44

Who did you try the sun cream on? DD (10), DS (7)

Where did you go on holiday?
South of England It was hot! and we used an outdoor swimming pool.

How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?
Very. It was high factor and was thick so stayed on well in the water. We had no instances of sunburn.

What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
A high sun factor, and suitable for sensitive skin. Price is also important.

What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?

It was quite thick, so took more effort to apply. But I guess it has to be thick for water use. It smelt fine.

Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?
Yes. It was good quality and I was confident that it was working as it stayed on in the pool. We had no sunburn.

SleepWouldBeANiceThing · 31/08/2017 21:49

Who did you try the sun cream on? Where did you go on holiday?

Children aged 2 & 5. Used in Cyprus - 30-35 degree heat at beach, swimming pool and water park.

How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?
Pretty confidant. Have used boots Soltan products in the past and usually buy the spray version of this cream in factor 50.

What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
Highest UVA & UVB ratings. Ease of application. Pleasant smell. Non-irritant to skin.

What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?
Fragrance us fine. Pleasant and not overpowering.
Is quite thick and takes a lot of rubbing in to apply. Both children said they preferred the spray version we usually get to the cream one as it rubbed I easier and felt Jess greasy. However, I think this one stayed on better and provided longer protection when in and out of water.
Despite the marketing of 3 hours water play, I would never trust this (especially when abroad somewhere very hot) and tend to re-apply every 1 1/2 hours or so.
Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?
Probably would. It did the job it was supposed to and neither of my children got sunburnt despite being in and out of water all day in 30+ degree heat for two weeks.

LeonardoAcropolis · 31/08/2017 22:10

Who did you try the sun cream on?
My two boys, 9 and 5

Where did you go on holiday?

Menorca

How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?

I was pretty confident, Boots Soltan is a well respected brand which I have used for many years. I liked the combination of the high factor and the 5 star Uva rating.

What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?

For my children especially, I look for the Uva star rating as some brands are quite low. I also want ones with a pleasant smell and to be good for sensitive skin.

What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?

It has a very pleasant smell, not too overpowering. It's very thick but that's not unusual for a high factor lotion. I liked the way it wasn't sticky or greasy. However, it is an unusual colour and you need to be careful when using near white bedding (common in hotels!) as it stained the sheets and bedspreads Blush

Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?

Yes, probably due to the non-sticky-non-greasy feel. Neither boy got sunburn, despite being in the water most of the time we were out.

HollyWolly45 · 01/09/2017 06:43

Who did you try the sun cream on?
My 3 year old
Where did you go on holiday?
UK
How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?
Good trustworthy brand, so I had high hopes for it
What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
Easy and quick to apply. Great sun protection
What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?
Quite thick to apply and rub in
Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?
I think I'll go back to a spray as it's easier to apply

nerysw · 01/09/2017 07:48

I was really impressed with the sun cream, thanks for the opportunity to try it. I used it on my children who are 8 and 6 and we were on holiday in the south of England during a really hot and sunny week.
My brother in law and his wife took the children out on the river in canoes and they were in the water for several hours in bright sunshine and 30 degree heat. The cream worked brilliantly. My daughter is very fair and burns easily but was fine.
I like to buy a cream I know will work and am sometime dubious of water resistance claims but I'd be confident to use this again.
The kids weren't too gone on the fragrance but I liked it and the consistency was quick thick and not difficult to apply.
I'd buy this again.
