I love this sunscream! I have used it on my son whenever we've been out in the sun, it had done a brilliant job - no sunburn whatsoever! He was in and out of the water at the beach a lot and applying this suncream every 3 hours kept him fully protected. We holidayed in the UK this year (unfortunately couldn't afford to go abroad!) but it was still very hot most days. My sons very pale- like me- so burns easily.

It actually smells quite nice, compared to some sun creams anyway! And application was super easy, it doesn't leave much residue, seems to absorb very fast.

I would definitely buy it for my boy at the right price

dontpokethebear · 24/08/2017 17:17

I used the sun cream on my youngest children age 4.5 and 2.5.
We went on holiday to Cornwall. To be honest the weather wasn't great, but we had a few hours of sunshine and we used the cream when we knew we'd be on the beach. I'd say I would be very confident in this product and I'd use it again as no one got red or burnt!
The cream rubbed in very easily, unlike most factor 50. This was a big selling point for me, as trying to apply cream evenly and getting a good coverage on a wriggling child isn't easy.
It smelt great, although it did feel a little sticky for a short while after.
Another important point I need to add is that it did not aggravate my contact dermatitis, which flares up regularly when applying large amounts of cream eg sun cream.

Rosehips · 24/08/2017 17:19

Who did you try the sun cream on?

Kids 1 and 5 and me

Where did you go on holiday?

UK

How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?

I'm happy that it had a high spf and I trust the brand to be reliable

What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?

Factor 50 or higher, then skin feel, i.e. not sticky or greasy

What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?

Didn't notice any fragrance which is a good thing. It was a little thick but OK to apply

Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?

No, none of use liked the texture and found it sticky. It was also a funny 'flesh' colour

olbndansmummy · 24/08/2017 17:20

Tried this on ds age 9 and dd age 4. Not away but on days out round the local area. Was quite confident this cream would give adequate protection to both dc. The most important thing when buying suncream is to protect their delicate skin. I would buy this again, because the application was easy, not greasy and seemed to absorb nicely when rubbed in. Definitely buy again. Smells nice too!

Castleonacloud · 24/08/2017 17:25

I used this on my son, age 5 and myself (I burn easily).

Although the cream was thick, it rubbed in easily and wasn't greasy. Although my DS was in the pool the cream worked. We used it as per instructions.

I have sensitive skin and tried this cream which didn't cause any reactions, and miraculously I didn't burn this year. I'm glad it has a, 5* uva protection which is clearly displayed on the bottle, which other popular brands don't have.

In short, I'll definitely be buying this cream again, I think there is a spray version too. I am a soltan convert, especially to the once creams, it's far less hassle when on the beach, no more rubbing sand in wit him the cream!! Bonus! Grin

DeathMetalMum · 24/08/2017 17:26

I used the suncream on both my daughters agedo 4&6. One is very pale and burns easily. We didn't use it on holiday, but one day when we got the paddling pool out in the garden and both were in and out of the water quite a lot. I love the smell wasn't 100% on the application I did find it stickier than other suncream's and didn't absorb a's easily, but this also meant it was easy to see if it had been applied everywhere, and that it was still on the skin after a few hour's. Which helped me feel like the product was working well. Which it did as no sunburn.

For me fragrance price and feel of the suncream are important, as is how my children's skin reacts to the cream both have mild eczema and some creams can irritate it. This didn't which is great.

I would buy it again as I think it would be brilliant for the children while at school. However I do usually buy suncream when it is on offer.

GlitterRollerSkate · 24/08/2017 17:35

Who did you try the sun cream on? Where did you go on holiday?
My child who is almost 2. Unfortunately the product arrived too late for us to test on holiday but have been using it on sunny days at home and on the beach.

How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?
I was happy to see that the sun cream came with a 5 star uv rating. I already use Soltan products and they have worked well in the past.

What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
High spf and uv protection.

What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?
Was quite thick and abit sticky until it dried. But the application was fine on a wiggly toddler. I also liked the smell. I did find the choice of colour abit strange.

Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?
Yes I would. It done exactly what it says on the tin. It didn't irritate my eczema which was a bonus! I intend on packing it when we go to Turkey next month. Thanks for letting us try it.

MaccaPaccaismyNemesis · 24/08/2017 17:37

We went to Suffolk for a week. The cream didn't arrive on time but by strange coincidence a friend had a bottle (maybe a secret mumsnetter?!) so I put some on DS who is 5yo when we were on the beach for the day.

I felt confident in the lotion, Boots Soltan is a trusted brand.

What is important to me when picking lotion is price, ease of application, a high factor, whether the bottle will leak or be impossible to get the lotion out of and also whether I like/trust the brand.

I thought the cream was quite thick and creamy, and went on quite well though ifdid require a lot of rubbing in which is as I expected it to be.

I would buy it again, we are going abroad in October and it will be coming with me.

Kraggle · 24/08/2017 17:37

Who did you try the sun cream on?

Dd who is 4 and a redhead and myself as I have very pale freckly skin that burns easily.

Where did you go on holiday?

U.K.

How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?

Very it was clear on the bottle it was high quality protection.

What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?

Long lasting uva and uvb protection.

What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?

It smelt lovely and dd thought so too. I found it quite thick and it took a while to sink in but then I do tend to slather it on.

Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?

If it was a good price or on offer, yes.

mum25littleones · 24/08/2017 17:39

I used this on my 2 youngest girls (the boys tend to be vampire wannabes hiding indoors whenever it's sunny!)

The cream is deliciously thick but worked easily into the girls skin without the greasy feel of some creams (nothing worse than trying to wrestle a greasy child out of a paddling pool!)

We all loved the fact there was very little scent as I was able to wear it and not impact wearing perfume too.

This is definitely top of our list of must have sun lotions should we ever get another sunny day!

CheeseEMouse · 24/08/2017 17:41

We tried the cream on my 2 and 4 year old on holiday in the uk at teh beach.

I was confident, having used soltan in the past that the protection would be fine and i was pleased with the high spf. I think where i was more naturally cautious is that i perhaps more frequently applied the cream than suggested.

It's important to have a high spf and upv protection and then i combine that with price ti make a decision about what cream to buy

The cream was fine to apply. No better or worse than others i have used.

I would buy the cream again provided the price is ok. Boots has in the past done some good value multipacks of soltan and inhave used those in the past

fraggle84 · 24/08/2017 17:42

1 - my son who's 5 and my daughter who's 2 - Greece
3 - it was really thick and seemed to stay on well. no sunburn
4 - ds wasn't keen on this as it was a lotion and he prefers a spray. Dd was happy with it. The star rating is important to me
5 - the smell was lovely, it was harder to rub in than our usual spray ones as it was much thicker
6 - yes for DD but no for DS as he much prefers a spray

over40andmumtoone · 24/08/2017 17:44

Who did you try the sun cream on?
My son aged 7 and I actually used it myself too.

Where did you go on holiday?
UK and Spain

How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?
I'm a big fan of the Boots Soltan range so am very happy to try another product in their range. A 5 star UVA rating is also a great thing to see on any suncare product.

What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
That it's a good brand, and has the best possible UVA rating and a high SPF

What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?
I found the lotion easy to apply, there's just a hint of fragrance, nothing offensive. It does feel a little sticky upon application but soon absorbs well.

Would you buy this sun protection again?
Yes, it worked well both in and out of the water and neither of us burned after use.

Why?
As above

emsielou1981 · 24/08/2017 17:48

I tried out the soltan cream and loved it, the feel of it was lovely and it went on my daughters pale skin very easily, I also tried it on my friends daughter who is mixed race and found that it left her skin a grey colour but other than that it was a fantastic product and I feel it protected her really well for the time she had it on as she burns easily and was totally fine. I would definitely recommend and purchase this product Smile

CopperPan · 24/08/2017 17:55

Who did you try the sun cream on? Where did you go on holiday?

We used it on all of us, on holiday to Italy this year. We were only going for one week so a full bottle lasted for all of us.

How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?
We had no issues with burning at all so I am confident that our dc were protected well against the sun. It was applied once in the morning and not reapplied at all during the day (although we were indoors a lot and didn't swim at all).

What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?

Obviously protection against UV, but also long-lasting, a high SPF, and ideally it would be non-staining and not too greasy.

What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?

It was very easy to apply, quite thick, although it did feel a bit greasy. The smell wasn't great but it was OK. It did seem to stain our white towels a bit.

Would you buy this sun protection again? Why? Yes, it wasn't perfect but it did the job with the most important factor which is protecting our skin.

Epilepticmummy · 24/08/2017 17:56

Who did you try the sun cream on?
I tried this suncream on my daughter who is 3 years old and my brother 12 who both are lovers of the great outdoors.
Where did you go on holiday?
This year we decided to do a staycay which was just as good as going abroad as this year the weather was just as perfect here as some of the places we have been abroad!
How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?
I am as confident as confident can be about this product, my daughter can burn so easily, no matter how high the factor or how regularly i apply it. Using this product however, left my daughter without a single spot of sunburn even after taking a dip in the sea!
What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
The most important thing about choosing suncream is whether or not it does what it says on the tin, many times we have been promised the moon but only given a tin foil crescent. This priduct however delivers and we love it!
What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?
I found this product extremely easy to apply and it seemed to absorb fairly quickly meaning that said children didn't turn into sand monsters the moment they sat down. An added bonus was the fragrance which was a hit with us all especially my little one who doesn't like the majority of sun creams out there.
Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?
I will certainly buy this product again, because it does what it is supposed to do and it smells perfect, a little also goes a long way. Anything that works is a win in my book.
Thank you for letting me try it, I love it and as a family we have now found our favourite.

colourdilemma · 24/08/2017 18:06

I've tried this on my three very fussy suncream hating children and it was one of the few they haven't objected to. The smell and consistency were all great and it was absorbed quickly. We haven't had to use suncream every day by any means because we've just been doing everyday park trips and we're in the uk (not the best weather!) so I don't feel best placed to talk about how it protects from burning. However, for me it's as much about the consistency and smell and the six hour thing would just make me feel a little better if I didn't manage to apply it bang on time.
All in all, great product.

awakeanddreaming · 24/08/2017 18:44

I used the cream in my girls, 4 and 6 who are fair skinned red heads. We stayed in the UK.

I was very confident of the level of coverage that the cream gave, the consistency was fabulous and thick but easy to apply.

When buying sun cream the most important factors to me are longevity and the level of coverage - this product seems to offer both. The only aspect that slightly put me off is the yellow tinge which shows up on white clothing.

I would definitely purchase again although a little goes a long way so it may not be for a while! Thankyou for choosing us to trial your product.

Spirael · 24/08/2017 18:59

Who did you try the sun cream on?
DD's, aged 3 and 7. Elder DD has skin allergies and this is one of the few sunblocks that she doesn't have a reaction to! On the other hand, this is one of the few that I am allergic to... Which meant DH was the one applying it to the kids.

Where did you go on holiday?
Ireland. It was cold and wet the whole time, so we didn't actually need that much sunblock in the end...

How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?
SPF 50 was probably overkill given the fact that it wasn't particularly hot or sunny while we were on holiday, but on the plus side the children definitely didn't burn-! Having used Soltan in the past, including when in very hot locations, it's worked perfectly when applied as per the instructions.

What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
Allergies is my very first consideration. After that I tend to go for a lower SPF than 50 unless we're going on holiday somewhere very hot and sunny, as the kids need to get their vitamin D from somewhere.

What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?
From what I was supervising it seemed to apply fine. A thick cream that rubbed in easily enough, though it did leave hands a bit greasy.

Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?
Yes, primarily because of the fact that it's one of the few that DD1 isn't allergic to, but also because I'm confident that it works.

SasBel · 24/08/2017 19:05

Who did you try the sun cream on?
The whole family! 2 adults and kids aged 3,5 and 8.

Where did you go on holiday?
Staycation in sunny Yorkshire!

How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?
Very, high protection against uv as well as SPF.

What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
That it works! We all have pale skin and the boys have eczema, so hypoallergenic is a must too.

What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?
Easy to apply with a mild, pleasant fragrance.

Would you buy this sun protection again?
Probably. Depends on the price.

Why?
It did stain white material, but it did work really well.

MrsMoggy · 24/08/2017 19:13

Who did you try the sun cream on?
My son aged 5 and my husband also used it for particularly sensitive areas of skin.

Where did you go on holiday?
Spain, it has been very hot!

How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?

Have used the brand before and worked well so was confident

What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
Price, ease of application and non allergic

What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?
Was very very thick and sticky, sand in particular stuck to it terribly. Would prefer it in spray form. It smelt nice.

Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?

No as it was just too thick and my son didn't like having it put on compared to the other spray suncream we took. Also the rrp is more expensive than I would usually pay.

Smallinthesmoke · 24/08/2017 19:18

We are on holiday in France, slathering ourselves in sun cream while playing in and around lakes.
It has been used mostly on me and DD1 (9) and DD2 (5) as we burn easily; DH was more blase about sun protection until he burned badly on the first day. So I can conclusively say that this sun lotion really works. It stays on the skin even after 3 hours leaping off diving boards, jumping on and off a pedalo and pottering up and down the lakeside. No sunburn for us, even on the palest Scottish skin in 32C heat all day. Yes! Just what I want in my sun protection, plus quite easy to rub in (you can see where you applied it) and an inoffensive fragrance.
There is however, one real downer about this product and that is that it stains very badly. It is a weird pale yellow colour, and once this hits a white towel or a favourite T-shirt - that's it. We tried different ways round this as the bottle does, to be fair, clearly say not to get it on fabric. We tried putting it on, waiting 15 mins and then getting dressed. Doesn't work- yellow smears everywhere. Then we tried putting it on while wearing swimwear- a bit frustrating to keep the 5 year old still when she just wants to gallop off, but a better option. This is the only thing that would stop me repurchasing, and even then I would consider it for the superior sun protection.
Thank you for including us in this product test!

Itsmeemmer · 24/08/2017 19:41

I tried the sun cream on my 8 year old and my 1 year old it's great we went to Spain and it was easy to rub in and not leave a sticky feeling. I'm very confident that this provided protection for my children there wasn't a bit of sun burn in sight. It's so important when I choose a sun cream that it doesn't leave that sticky feeling for I have to reapply every hour. It was so easy to apply I even had my son helping me to rub it in to my 1 year old. I already have brought this cream again stocking up for next year or the days we get surprised with sun. I would recommend this product to anyone

hanliying · 24/08/2017 19:57

Who did you try the sun cream on? My 6 yr old
Where did you go on holiday?Germany
How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child? Very confident as it provides 6 hours protection which means I only need to apply once a day
What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product? Longer protection and not chemicals in the product
What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion? Love it
Would you buy this sun protection again? Why? Yes. This is very handy product for travel as I only need to apply once and can leave it at hotel

rupert23 · 24/08/2017 19:57

Who did you try the sun cream on? Where did you go on holiday? i tried it on my sons age 10 and 15. unfortunately it arrived too late for our holiday to majorca but we used it locally on days out.
How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child? have used this make before so trusted it
What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
good protection and staying on for long particularly in water is good
What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion? it was thick and did not seem to absorb very quick. the boys found it a bit sticky and did not like the feel of it
Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?no because although it may stay on in water i dont think it would be good on the beach as sand would stick to it. the fragrance was ok but it was too thick and creamy for the boys. i think it works well in its defence but the boys were not keen on it
thank you for letting us do the trial
