Who did you try the sun cream on?
My 3 year old, 6 year old niece, and myself
Where did you go on holiday?
Cornwall
How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?
We didn't burn, it seemed to stay on well while we were going in and out of the sea too.
What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
Effective, easy to rub in, doesn't irritate skin
What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?
Very good, better than my current brand, nice fragrance too.
Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?
Yes. It was easy to rub in, smelt nice and seemed to last. My red haired, pale skinned daughter sometimes gets sensitive skin after using sunscreen for a few days in a row, she didn't with this. I will definitely recommend and repurchase.
Thanks for choosing us

babycakes1010 · 28/08/2017 19:05

Thank you for allowing us to take part in this trial.
I tried this on myself, dc 7,3 and 1 in Spain and France.
I was very confident using this as it was a brand I trusted and was rated 5* uva.
It's important to me that it's easy to rub in, doesn't irritate and waterproof. This was definitely easy to apply and smelt lovely!
I would definitely buy again as it did the job!

blackteaplease · 28/08/2017 20:11

I tested this on me and my 3 dc age 1,4 and 7. It didn't arrive in time for ourent main hols but I tried it today in Noth Devon in 30 degrees.

I was confident we wouldn't burn as I applied thoroughly.

The main thing I look for in a suncream is ease of application and whether it will trigger eczema as all dc have it

I liked the smell but thought it was difficult to apply. Too thick and felt very greasy once on. The dc complained it was itchy when drying. It made my skind feel greasy.

I wouldn't buy this again, I prefer to use a lighter lotion and apply several times a day.

JemIsMyNameNooneElseIsTheSame · 28/08/2017 20:38

Who did you try the sun cream on?
DS aged 5 and myself.

Where did you go on holiday?
Sunny, sunny North Norfolk.

How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?
Quite confident. Always have to spend longer making sure every inch is covered, though, for an 'all day' lotion.

What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
Effectiveness. Ease of application. Price.

What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?
Quite thick, but not too bad. DS didn't like it on his face as prefers a spray. Fragrance was fine.

Would you buy this sun protection again?
Possibly, depending on price.

Why?
Was better than other all day lotions I've tried.

happymittens · 28/08/2017 20:44

Who did you try the sun cream on?
My 7 yo daughter.

Where did you go on holiday?
Menorca

How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?
It was factor 50, and a good water resistance. I've also heard good things about Soltan being higher for UVA rating than a lot of other suncreams.

What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
For my daughter, it must be factor 50. The 3hr water protection really appeals as my daughter literally spends all day in the water!

What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?
Not too bad to apply. I don't really like applying sun cream anyway, but this was perfectly ok. Smelt lovely- of holidays!

Would you buy this sun protection again?
Yes!

Why?
Gave me peace of mind and my daughter didn't burn. The high UVA isa massive plus as well.

Iamagenius · 28/08/2017 21:36

Who did you try the sun cream on? Where did you go on holiday? I used the sun cream on my three girls; 6, 4 and 2 whilst in our recent two week holiday in France. They all have very different complexions and skin types so I was hoping that this would work for all of them.
How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?* I had previously used the 8 hour protection when my girls were much younger but knew that this summer they would be in and out of the pool. This cream was great, easy to rub in although the spray bit can get clogged easily especially if used on a beach. However the protection itself is what matters and after two weeks of full sunshine not a burn in sight.*
What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?* At this point, protection factor and ease of used. With the girls being so small, I need something that is fast and easy to apply as, tbh, they won't stand still for very long!!*
What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?* Feels nice on the hands and rubs in well. Fragrance is ok.*
Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?* Yes because it worked!*

Awholenewstart · 29/08/2017 07:38

Interesting reading - I found the cream really thick and not that great when rubbed in as so heavy and greasy on children's skin. This was in comparison to other factor 50's.
I also found it stained clothes a lot.
I was however confident in its ability, probably because it was so thick, and easy to see it was still on the children after being in and out of the water.
That said I still felt I needed to reapply as I would not like to trust it working all day.
For us - I much prefer the sprays that are much quicker and easier to apply and work better into children's skin. This one needed a good bath soak to ensure it was all out of the skin by the end of the day

ilovewelshrarebit123 · 29/08/2017 09:47

Who did you try the sun cream on? Where did you go on holiday?

My 10 year old and she went to France and it was very hot.

How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?

I've always trusted Soltan and it didn't let us down. She spent a lot of time in the pool and didn't burn at all.

What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?

The consistency as DD hates anything that's sticky or leaves a residue, this didn't.

What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?

Went in really easily considering it's a high factor to.

Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?

Yes, it does exactly what it said it would, smells nice and is reasonably priced.

Thanks for letting us try it Smile

Perpetualstateofchaos · 29/08/2017 10:48
  1. tested on ds' s aged 5 and 10. We went on holiday to north wales.

  2. I was very confident in this product. My son's were on and put of the sea and didn't burn at all.

  3. high protection is really important to me ds2 is pale so can catch the sun quite easily.

  4. it was really easy to apply and didn't feel greasy like a lot of other suncreams. Usually I have to wash my hands straight after apply as I can't stand the texture although with this I didn't need to. The colour was a surprise but both boys liked it. I didn't really notice a fragrance which again is good for me.

  5. if definitely buy it again sprays are usually favoured by all of us but we all liked how easily it absorbed and protection it provided. Especially ds2 who hated having his play interrupted for sun cream to be applied. It was a winner for us. Thank you

Miaow1234 · 29/08/2017 10:52

My 5 year old and 7 year old nephew. We used in Dorset.
I was confident in what the product claimed.
Uva and uvb high protection in a suncream is important.
Easy to apply and nice smell, although my daughter caught the sun with this and hasn't done before with other products.
I probably wouldn't buy again.

NauticalDisaster · 29/08/2017 12:48

I used this cream on my two DC, 4 & 6, & on myself. We had many days out to local beaches during the test period, done were even sunny 😉

I was confident that the product was working, none of us got sunburn, and no one had any adverse reaction to the product. These are all the important, key factors for a sunblock.

I found the product too thick and that it didn't spread easily when trying to work it into the skin. I also found it tended to stain clothes so I wasn't that pleased about the way it went on.

No, I wouldn't buy it again because of the difficulty in applying it.

TeddyIsaHe · 29/08/2017 13:07
  1. I used it on my 7 month old and my 3 year old niece in Mexico
  1. Pretty confidant. High protection factor and Soltan has always been a respected brand in our house.
  1. How easy it is to put on a squirmy child and how well it protects from the sun.
  1. I have to say I didn't like it at all. The texture was very thick and it was greasy. I tried it on myself and it was so uncomfortable, like I'd been wrapped in something and my skin couldn't breathe. I guess that's for the water protection. The smell was nice though!
  1. I wouldn't buy again. I'd rather a lighter lotion that I have to reapply more often to be completely honest.
CordeliaScott · 29/08/2017 13:42

Who did you try the sun cream on? Where did you go on holiday?
I tried it on DD (2) and DS (1). We used it in the garden as they were playing in the paddling pool.

How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?
Boots is generally a trusted brand so I would expect that their products would be good quality. Neither child was burnt despite being in and out of the water.

What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
That it is a brand that I trust and is a high factor. I also prefer waterproof products as the kids seem to gravitate towards any water that they can see.

What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?
It rubbed in easily but I thought that it was quite sticky which I did not like. I also generally prefer spray lotions as the kids seem to stand still for longer.

Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?
Probably not as I did not like the stickiness.

mrtumblesbagisspotty · 29/08/2017 13:53

Who did you try the sun cream on?
I used it in my daughter who is nearly 3
Where did you go on holiday?
I didn't use the product on holiday, just used for days out in the uk
How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?
I was very confident as I had used the spray version previously and it had done a great job on my daughters pale skin
What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?
The UVA/UVB protection rating
What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?
Application was easy although is very thick and quiet greasy.
Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?
Yes I would definitely buy again although I think I would stick to the spray version as I think it's not as thick or sticky.

The one thing I wasn't happy about the product was that when applying it it stained my daughters clothes. Thankfully a tonne of vanish and it came out

3girlsunder3 · 29/08/2017 14:39

I used this on my 8 and 11 yr old children, all fair skinned blondes.
We went to Majorca.
I was confident this cream would do as it stated on the tin, the Soltan brand is a well known one and the cream was very evident on the skin when first applied - you could see a tangible barrier to the sun. It seemed pretty budge proof when applied.
Efficacy and ease of use are really important when buying suncream for me. I have 3 children and want a product that works and has staying power - it takes ages to apply sun cream x 3, I hate doing it and my kids hate standing still long enough to gave it done! Price and brand reputation are a factor for me too.
The lotion smelt lovely. When it arrived I was unsure whether I would like it, it seemed really thick and I thought would be difficult to apply. However once warm it thins out a lot and is really easy to apply. You can see it sat on the skin at first, which also helps with application.
I thought this lotion was brilliant. I applied it late morning on all 3 children and it stayed put all day in 34 degree heat whilst most if the time was spent in the pool. One application lasted all day and no sunburn. It really did exceed my expectations, the only negative being that one bottle only managed 6 applications ie 2 days.
I would definitely buy this in future, especially when on one of the frequent soltan offers.
Thankyou for giving me the opportunity to test it.

FoxesSitOnBoxes · 29/08/2017 14:45

Used this on my 4 year old and two year old in Majorca.
Very confident in it- it is quite thick and you can't see where you've applied it so you don't miss anywhere. Skin felt like it still had cream on it even after going in and out of the sea for a good few hours. When we got in the water you could see a little oily patch where my husband's cream was coming off slightly but the soltan felt like it was staying put. Despite being thick and feeling like the cream was staying put, it didn't feel greasy
I look for reliable effective cover when choosing sun cream but also consider ease of application
The cream was thick but easy to apply and I didn't notice a fragrance (good because my son gets eczema so I try to avoid very perfumed things)
I think I would buy it again. It is definitely the most effective cream I've used and it's really nice not to have to apply it as frequently as I have done before. The only thing is that it is yellowish and has stained a few white towels and knickers and hasn't come out with a bit of hand washing in the sink (although it may well do with a machine wash at home)

OneDadOneBlog · 29/08/2017 16:20

I used this suncream on both my children (6) and (2) whilst holidaying in Gran Canaria as well as when back in the UK (on the rare sunny days we are having this summer).

Having used Boots standard Soltan on the children previously I knew that its a good sun cream, particularly the UV protection rating being the best there is. I was really impressed by the Once range though as even though I didn't want to leave it all day to test out, I was able to leave both children longer than usual when in and out of the pools and in the sun, which meant more time to relax. This was particularly great on the beach where there is nothing worse than having to re-apply suncream on a wet, sandy body.

The cream itself smells really nice (I'd say it smells of summer) and wasn't greasy like some factor 50+) meaning I could apply and then manage to rub it completely into my hands which the need to find the nearest baby wipe to try and remove.

I'd most definitely buy the cream again, even if its to complement the existing soltan range as a bottle specifically for longer required days of application (such as the beach, waterparks, days out) when you don't want to be applying on several occasions.

A winner in my eyes

girlsyearapart · 29/08/2017 17:00

Used the cream on my kids 9,8,7,5 and my nieces 11,9
We were on a very hot beach in Cornwall and applied the cream twice in the 5 hours we were there.
Everyone liked the smell of the cream but said it was a bit sticky and prefer a spray.
I was confident about the cream as it's a make I know but my fair niece got sunburn.
I think the 'once' claim lulled me into a false sense of security as I would have applied it more than twice with a normal cream.

I look at value for money and ease of application when buying suncream. The kids like a spray.
I probably would buy the cream again but I don't think my sister would!

midgetgem2211 · 29/08/2017 17:56

Who did you try the sun cream on? - my daughter's aged 3 and 8
Where did you go on holiday? - didn't, used on bank holiday monday
How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child? - according to info on packaging it looked the best choice
What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product? - ease of application, protection and price
What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion? - dreadful - gluey and sticky, impossible to apply. Fragrance fine. Took forever to sink in and left skin tacky.
Would you buy this sun protection again? Why? - no. It ruined my husband's shorts and was awful to apply.

MonsieurBing · 29/08/2017 18:34

Who did you try the sun cream on?

Kids 8 and 6 and me

Where did you go on holiday?

UK

How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?

I have used soltan before so was confident in the protection

What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?

I like a high factor cream as the kids are so pale. And the cream has to feel and smell nice

What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?

Didn't notice any fragrance which is a good thing. It was a little thick to apply especially if there's any hair on the skin. It had a funny colour

Would you buy this sun protection again? Why?

I might as no one burnt and it's a reasonable price. I didn't like applying it. I would probably buy another soltan product instead. However if I won the lottery I would buy ultrasun which I prefer but it is ridiculously expensive

Alannahpickaver · 29/08/2017 19:22

We used this suncream on holiday. It went on nice to start with but as we were rubbing it in, it became quite viscous and thick. It did seem to offer good coverage and good protection.
We used it both in and out of the water. I would agree it does last for the quoted times on the packaging. I would say it lasted 2-3 hour when she was in water and longer out of the water.
Overall I would recommend this suncream as it worked to the expected standard and my daughter enjoyed the smell.

Alannahpickaver · 29/08/2017 19:26

Who did you try the sun cream on? Where did you go on holiday?
My daughter and Italy
How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child? Somewhat confident
What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product? Protection
What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion? It was not easy to apply as it became very viscous however the fragrance was pleasant.
Would you buy this sun protection again? Why? Yes but only if it was on offer. It did offer good protection.

Caillou · 29/08/2017 20:52

Who did you try the sun cream on? Where did you go on holiday?

We went on holiday in Asia and tried the product on my 2 daughters one is 5 and the other is 2.

How confident were you that this product provided the best sun protection for your child?

Quite confident as boots is a brand I trust.

What is important to you when choosing a sun protection product?

That my children gets the highest protection possible.

What did you think of the ease of application and the fragrance of the lotion?

It was quite easy to apply, but then my girls love to have sun cream applied, it may be a bit trickier with a reluctant child

Would you buy this sun protection again? Why? Yes as my girls were completely safe and protected despite the very high temperatures and bright sunshine
