This is the feedback thread for the 500 Mumsnetters who have been testing brand new range of cold-pressed baby food, My First Savsé.

Here’s what Guka, the founder of Savsé has to say: “When we looked at manufactured baby food, we realised babies weren’t getting the nutrients they deserved. Refusing to feed my own child pasteurised product, I wanted to push boundaries and create the freshest baby food possible. After all, real food isn’t just for adults.

This is why we created My First Savsé – Europe’s first cold-pressed, HPP baby food that’s as good as homemade. Unlike heat pasteurised baby food – which experiences a shocking 40% reduction in nutritional value – with My First Savsé the nutritional value of our 100% Organic, Grade A fruit and veg is never* compromised.

*Source: Fruselva Laboratories, July 2017 (tests carried out vs. heat pasteurised competitor x)”

Also from My First Savsé: “By cold-pressing our fruit and veg we don’t strip the goodness, replacing heat pasteurisation in favour of non-thermal High Pressure Processing (HPP) to ensure all vital nutrients are locked into each pouch, removing any nasties without compromising on taste or quality.

A busy parent will have to make a million compromises on a daily basis, but quality nutrition for their baby should never be one of them. However, with 1 in 4 parents unable to prepare homemade baby food due to work pressures, many have been forced to rely on heat pasteurised options bought in-store, with a sell by date often older than the babies themselves! But compromise no more. Our brand new cold-pressed baby food range, My First Savsé, has solved the problem - because babies deserve real food too.

Unlike heat pasteurised baby food, you won’t find My First Savsé in the baby aisle - oh no. You’ll find it in the chiller, alongside all the other fresh products!”

Testers, once the products are finished, please answer the below questions as well as leaving any other feedback you have:

1. Did you know that until My First Savsé came along, there was chilled pet food available in retailers but no chilled baby food? Will this change the way you shop for your little one?
2. Which was your little one’s favourite recipe from the My First Savsé Stage 1 range?
3. How could My First Savsé improve their recipes? How would you say My First Savsé compares to the current offering of baby food pouches in supermarkets?
4. Knowing that My First Savsé is never heat pasteurised, would you purchase My First Savsé if it was widely available in supermarkets, and why?
5. Would you recommend My First Savsé baby food to a friend or family member, and why?

We’d also love to see some photos of your little one testing My First Savsé cold-pressed baby food, so please share on the thread if you can.

If you’d like to share your experience on social media, please do using the hashtag #myfirstsavse

All testers who complete the required feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

  1. I've seen chilled pet food but I assume that the majority of pet owners don't buy it (we certainly don't.) I think chilled pet food is an awful waste of resources - my cat is currently licking her bum hole after eating a moth. I don't think she cares about her food being chilled. In terms of baby food pouches, we only use them on days out so we wouldn't take refrigerated ones anyway.
  1. My baby loves the cacoa one, the only one she didn't like was the cucumber one. They are all pretty much mostly apple though.
  1. Some savoury non-fruit based flavours would be good.
  1. I probably wouldn't buy it because of the price, my child mostly eating home cooked food and not really being bothered about the occasional pouch of baby food not being pasteurised in the "right" way. As a mother I have enough sticks to beat myself with without worrying about the pasteurisation techniques used to prepare my baby's food.
  1. I probably wouldn't recommend them, no. If one of my friends was fretting over the pasteurisation of baby food, I'd suggest they tried giving their baby some home cooked food/finger food instead of some very expensive apple-based cold mush and tell them not to worry about the occasional jar/pouch off the shelf.
IndianaMoleWoman · 13/08/2017 10:44

Also in terms of recommending to a friend, how the hell do you pronounce Savse??

  1. Did you know that until My First Savsé came along, there was chilled pet food available in retailers but no chilled baby food? Will this change the way you shop for your little one?
I didn't know that but no it won't change the way I shop
  1. Which was your little one’s favourite recipe from the My First Savsé Stage 1 range?
My ds liked them all to be honest, he didn't seem to have a preference!
  1. How could My First Savsé improve their recipes? How would you say My First Savsé compares to the current offering of baby food pouches in supermarkets?
They could be a little less sweet but it depends how you use them, I don't use pouches much only as a treat food or a pudding anyway so they were ideal for that. I think pouches are convenient because they don't have to be kept cold so these ones are less convenient if anything but I see that they're trying to make things healthier so it's a tricky one
  1. Knowing that My First Savsé is never heat pasteurised, would you purchase My First Savsé if it was widely available in supermarkets, and why? I probably would purchase and give to my baby instead of a yogurt after dinner as he doesn't like yogurt much so we tend to give fruit pots as a pudding instead. I do worry about the sugar though
  2. Would you recommend My First Savsé baby food to a friend or family member, and why? I would recommend purely because my baby loved them so much!

1. Did you know that until My First Savsé came along, there was chilled pet food available in retailers but no chilled baby food? Will this change the way you shop for your little one?

No I had no idea that there was chilled pet food. Do not think I have EVER seen it. Maybe it's a posh thing?
2. Which was your little one’s favourite recipe from the My First Savsé Stage 1 range?

My little one love the apple. She did enjoy trying some of them.
3. How could My First Savsé improve their recipes? How would you say My First Savsé compares to the current offering of baby food pouches in supermarkets?

I found some of the combinations of flavours very odd. I am all for babies trying new flavours but when starting off weaning we are told to try one flavour at a time and wish that there was more single flavours especially veg.

4. Knowing that My First Savsé is never heat pasteurised, would you purchase My First Savsé if it was widely available in supermarkets, and why?

To be honest I am not sure I would when I go looking for baby things i tend to head straight for the baby isle I am not sure I would want to go looking around the whole shop for it. However if I noticed them on offer or during my shop I might pick them up.

5. Would you recommend My First Savsé baby food to a friend or family member, and why?

I would mention them if I knew how to say the name. Plus I found the flavours a bit odd. I would and have mentioned them to other mums I know however I am not sure I am 100% happy with them. It was only by chance that I checked the date on them before I fed them to my child.

  1. Did you know that until My First Savsé came along, there was chilled pet food available in retailers but no chilled baby food? Will this change the way you shop for your little one?

I didn't even know there was chilled pet food! Now you come to mention it though, I never noticed any chilled baby-food in the fridge isles, infact, I never even thought to look for it there!

  1. Which was your little one’s favourite recipe from the My First Savsé Stage 1 range?

She enjoyed all of them (including the out of date one, which I had already fed her by the time the issue was noticed!). Her favourite though was the pure apple one, she loves apples!

  1. How could My First Savsé improve their recipes? How would you say My First Savsé compares to the current offering of baby food pouches in supermarkets?

As much as my daughter loves apples, I think it shouldn't be such a prominent ingredient in all the pouches. Most of the weaning things I have read advise starting babies on veg first as fruit is naturally sweet and may discourage them to eat other flavours. I understand the need to sweeten up some of the foods (show me a baby that will eat brocolli on its own), however, realistically when moving onto the solid versions of these foods, you're not going to smother a carrot in apple sauce to make it more appealing.

I also think some of the consistencies were too runny. Although I understand they are to be used as stage one foods, the cocoa (etc) one could of been put in a feeding bottle and drunk!

  1. Knowing that My First Savsé is never heat pasteurised, would you purchase My First Savsé if it was widely available in supermarkets, and why?

If they were on offer then yes, but unfortunately the price of the individual pouches at the moment are not something we can afford. We tend not to use pouches so much anymore, but when out and about they are convenient (not at that price though).

  1. Would you recommend My First Savsé baby food to a friend or family member, and why?

I would based on my daughters experience, although, from reading some of the replies and feedback from other mums, if I were to reccoment the product, I would mention that, from the mumsnet feedback, several children had upset stomachs following the pouches. Then, whom-ever I am discussing them with can make their own fully informed choice.

  1. Did you know that until My First Savsé came along, there was chilled pet food available in retailers but no chilled baby food? Will this change the way you shop for your little one?

I wasn't aware of chilled pet food and in fact this idea freaks me out quite a lot. And makes this question really odd. Availability of chilled baby food does not make me want to change how I shop for my LO.

  1. Which was your little one’s favourite recipe from the My First Savsé Stage 1 range?

Her favourite was the carrot, pumpkin, apple and beetroot pouch. I warmed it up as it just didn't taste right cold. She really did gobble this one down but was still very hungry afterwards.

  1. How could My First Savsé improve their recipes? How would you say My First Savsé compares to the current offering of baby food pouches in supermarkets?

My daughter is 8 months old and none of these filled her up, the puree was just so thin - these pouches seem much more suited to very first weaning only - the company are limiting their potential customer base.

I was disappointed that they all tasted so sweet and were so heavily fruit based. I wouldn't buy them because of the heavy use of fruit ingredients. Sad not to get a replacement lentil one (which arrived out of date) - which was one of the only other savoury ones.

TBH I prefer (and so does my LO) Ella's Kitchen and various other brands.

  1. Knowing that My First Savsé is never heat pasteurised, would you purchase My First Savsé if it was widely available in supermarkets, and why?

No. And you know what the non heat pasteurised thing just doesn't mean much to me. I think if you were really fussed about this you would just make your own puree at home (we do a mix of home puree, BLW, and convenient pouches for out and about).

  1. Would you recommend My First Savsé baby food to a friend or family member, and why?

I wouldn't recommend them, although I wanted to like them! They are too sweet and fruit based, and so thin I think unless they were exceptionally cheap (which I doubt), you would need to give two pouches or another brand's more substantial pouch as a main and this as a desert. Which is expensive and TBH my LO would prefer a baby biscuit for a desert.

GirlfromMars10 · 14/08/2017 09:38
  1. No and no
  2. Either the coconut, cacao, apple and banana or pear, pea, Apple and spinach. There were three testers really, my six month old (main tester obviously), my two year old (who has to be involved in everything) and me (just a little, out of curiosity). My two year old loved them all, which was great but it could have been the novelty of stealing her brother's food. The little one is relatively new to weaning generally enjoyed them. I thought they were fine, if rather sweet.
  3. More vegetables. I was surprised by the very high fruit content in all of them.
  4. I like the idea the production process retains more of the nutrients so yes I would purchase them if the price was right but as a treat for the kids.
  5. I would let people know that they had been a hit in our household, although note that not all testers had had such a good experience.

In terms of other comments, I think it is confusing about the storage requirements and chilling. When it comes to pouches the great things having a stash in the cupboard for those days when you're out and about or at a loss for ideas. Having to think about keeping things chilled worries my sleep deprived brain!

Kione · 14/08/2017 11:34

Mine arrived whilst we were on holiday, on the 5th of August, picked it today from post office, so I am out of the trial I guess... Or has anyone had similar experience and pouches been ok??

  1. Did you know that until My First Savsé came along, there was chilled pet food available in retailers but no chilled baby food? Will this change the way you shop for your little one?
No I wasn't aware of this but no it will not change. The point of a pouch is for convenience and having to keep these in the fridge is not convenient.
  1. Which was your little one’s favourite recipe from the My First Savsé Stage 1 range?
The cacao one.
  1. How could My First Savsé improve their recipes? How would you say My First Savsé compares to the current offering of baby food pouches in supermarkets?
There is a lot of apple. Very similar combinations.
  1. Knowing that My First Savsé is never heat pasteurised, would you purchase My First Savsé if it was widely available in supermarkets, and why?
No, it didn't really make a difference to me.
  1. Would you recommend My First Savsé baby food to a friend or family member, and why?
No, it completely defeats the point of having a convenient food for you child to keep in your change bag.

1.Did you know that until My First Savsé came along, there was chilled pet food available in retailers but no chilled baby food? Will this change the way you shop for your little one?

I did know this as seen the fridges in the pet aisle. I'm not sure that it will change how I shop for my baby.

2.Which was your little one’s favourite recipe from the My First Savsé Stage 1 range?

He liked the pea one.

3.How could My First Savsé improve their recipes? How would you say My First Savsé compares to the current offering of baby food pouches in supermarkets?

You need to get to the bottom as to why some of the children had really bad wind and gripe pains. My child have been weaning for about 5 weeks when we gave him the pouches and it was the first time ever experienced that kind of distress with him. He is our fifth child in total so we aren't naive and new to weaning. He's ate a wide range of foods including curry. The purees were nice and soothing on his gums and needed little effort. For this reason they were handy but not something I intend on feeding him all the time.

4.Knowing that My First Savsé is never heat pasteurised, would you purchase My First Savsé if it was widely available in supermarkets, and why?

Probably not as we had a bad reaction to it. The cost is prohibitive too. I'd rather make at my concoctions and put them in pouches myself if necessary.

However you state that the product is suitable from 4 months and this is against the NHS guidelines. Why are manufacturers still peddling this nonsense? You say that all babies are made difference yet from a biological point of view they really aren't. Why can't a manufacturer of baby foods stand up and say 6 mths instead of trying to attract the early weaning market.

5.Would you recommend My First Savsé baby food to a friend or family member, and why?

No for reasons covered in point 5 and the fact they haven't really addressed the points made about the pain some babies were in and sent out of date pouches

  1. Did you know that until My First Savsé came along, there was chilled pet food available in retailers but no chilled baby food? Will this change the way you shop for your little one?
I was fully aware there was no chilled baby food, but equally unaware there was chilled pet food. Because of this I just don't buy the pouches or jars from the baby aisle unless I am totally desperate.
  1. Which was your little one’s favourite recipe from the My First Savsé Stage 1 range?
He loved them all!
  1. How could My First Savsé improve their recipes? How would you say My First Savsé compares to the current offering of baby food pouches in supermarkets?
Just a wider range of choices. I am not sure it's possible but some with lumps in, matched to the stages the other pouches offer.
  1. Knowing that My First Savsé is never heat pasteurised, would you purchase My First Savsé if it was widely available in supermarkets, and why?
Absolutely, because they are the healthier end of convenience food.
  1. Would you recommend My First Savsé baby food to a friend or family member, and why?

Yes and I already have. Just due to the process the food is prepared and the highest level of nutrition next to home streamed.

I loved the packaging and design too.
Albie my 9 month old, feeding himself his pouch whilst camping last week!

  1. Did you know that until My First Savsé came along, there was chilled pet food available in retailers but no chilled baby food? Will this change the way you shop for your little one?

I've never really had to think about pet food and baby food at the same time, conjures up images of dog meat for me.
To be honest, I wouldn't actively seek this kind of chilled baby food within special cabinets in the baby aisle. If I passed the fresh juice and smoothie chiller aisle and saw My First Savse I wouldn't think that they are out of place.

  1. Which was your little one’s favourite recipe from the My First Savsé Stage 1 range?

Unfortunately the first pouch we tried was the lentils, sweet potato, carrot and apple recipe - which went down well. I didn't even think to look at the use-by date :( Then I later hear about it being out of date, however I didn't even receive an email, so I can't be sure that it was in or out of date.
The least favoured recipe was the cucumber, kiwi, kale, spinach, apple and banana. It did smell and taste overwhelmingly of kale. As with most baby food pouches on the market, apple or another fruit usually makes up the most of the recipe. The other, more interesting ingredients are often listed first. Cucumber, I thought, was an almost nutritionally void vegetable, but in the percentage it was included it may as well be, regardless of the preservation technique.
The blueberry, prune, plum, apple and banana pouch had similar effects to the above reviews - explosive nappy! I suppose it could be a good alternative to the Ella's Kitchen Prunes, Prunes Prunes pouch if baby has constipation.

  1. How could My First Savsé improve their recipes? How would you say My First Savsé compares to the current offering of baby food pouches in supermarkets?

The recipes could contain greater percentages of vegetables, rather than being mostly apple based. I think that they are fairly similar to the fruit based pouches currently on the market particularly as they list the more desirable, fanciable ingredients first. To compare, an Organic Lidl'Uns Parsnip, Carrots and Apple pouch is over 60% apple, and 10% parsnips. My First Savse Coconut, Cacao, Apple and Banana offers an apple heavy pouch with the interesting ingredient here being cacao actually only present in powder form at 0.8%. The ingredients can sound wonderful, and yes you can read the front and think that could be great for my baby and their developing tastes, but it is misleading.
Ultimately if they adapt the marketing for these pouches, these could actually be smoothies directed at a different demographic entirely. The cucumber recipe certainly tasted like a green smoothie/juice.

  1. Knowing that My First Savsé is never heat pasteurised, would you purchase My First Savsé if it was widely available in supermarkets, and why?

At the price each stage 1 pouch is available at (£1.70) I would not purchase MFS based on its process of preservation. The manufactured baby food industry may have had a gap in the market, but I reckon there are some holes in their ideals. My First Savse tell the consumer that heat pasteurisation "consistently strips the nutrients from the fruit and veg..." "By doing so, this isn't giving babies the food they deserve - yes, they are full up but they are still hungry for nutrients." I'm afraid that cutting fruit and veg and not eating it within 30 minutes yields less nutrients, so really we can't win. This idea of "Because babies deserve real food too." will probably contribute to parent confusion over nutrition. Many of the company statement got a raised eyebrow from me, as it basically sends a message that whatever you are currently giving your baby now (manufactured baby food) isn't good enough, it is nutritionally invalid due to the heat preservation process even though it satiates them. In which case, what could be better than home-made? But the USP is presumably the cold-press process and of course that message has to be driven home.

  1. Would you recommend My First Savsé baby food to a friend or family member, and why?
The packaging could do with the blurb re-jigging. Rather than the first headline on the back trying to say that from 4 months is fine, but 6 months is best, perhaps it could actually stick to USP of the product with advise on keeping the pouch, storing and travelling with it, seeing as it is Europe's first cold-pressed, HPP baby food. I wasn't sure whether I could just pop it in my bag in the morning and be certain it was good to eat by lunchtime with no chilling. From what I have already read, the market research so far has been a bit of a shambles and not promoting a great deal of consumer confidence. I would recommend friends to try them and form their own opinion. I do fear it could add another comparison to the mix: organic vs non-organic, jars vs pouches, bought baby food vs homemade, formula brand A vs formula brand B, cold pressed vs heat preserved...etc, you get the idea. My daughter enjoyed the majority of them, but as an addition to a meal with carbohydrates.

  1. I did know that there was chilled pet food. I never thought about baby food before.
  2. She loved the coconut, cacao, Apple and banana.
  3. There were a lot of Mish mash ups. Maybe just flavours by themselves instead of all mixed together. I.e strawberry, peach, pineapple etc.
  4. Once I found out they are £1.70 a pouch I was put off. For the length of time you have once they are out of the fridge is not justified. You could just easily make a smoothie yourself.
  5. My child did not have any bowel problems which was a plus. But I can't justify the price to people. There are other competitively priced products.

1. Did you know that until My First Savsé came along, there was chilled pet food available in retailers but no chilled baby food? Will this change the way you shop for your little one?
I've never seen chilled pet food in the supermarket or at pet shops. I haven't seen chilled baby pouches but am aware that babies can eat yoghurt, hummus and lots of other things whilst they are weaning. As the current brands of baby pouches can be eaten hot or cold I don't really feel that having separate pouches available in the chilled eisle would make any difference to my shopping as it doesn't make it any more conveniet or less time consuming.

2. Which was your little one’s favourite recipe from the My First Savsé Stage 1 range?
We were unable to try any if the pouches as they had been left on our doorstep without a delivery note whilst we we're away on a mini -break and therefore we didn't know when they were delivered or how long they'd been unrefrigerated for. I might have tried them myself to sample the flavours but i am 6 months pregnant so didn't want to risk it either.

3. How could My First Savsé improve their recipes? How would you say My First Savsé compares to the current offering of baby food pouches in supermarkets?
The flavours certainly look more exciting and the packaging is very attractive, but I prefer to give the baby a range of foods and these all appear to be largely apple based which makes them too samey for my liking.

4. Knowing that My First Savsé is never heat pasteurised, would you purchase My First Savsé if it was widely available in supermarkets, and why?
I would buy it if I needed to feed the baby there and then and hasn't already packed suitable food, however as other baby pouches are available for about half the price I would most likely buy the cheaper ranges.

5. Would you recommend My First Savsé baby food to a friend or family member, and why?
No because we have as yet been unable to try them ourselves

cakeandteajustforme · 15/08/2017 20:34

Our first batch was delivered to the external gas meter cupboard while a friend was house sitting so had to be chucked... have received a beautifully packaged and chilled second set with no trouble.

  1. Irrelevant what kind of food I feed my dog (which by the way is high quality dry biscuits so I'm not sure why the comparison/assumption that fresh is always better).

However. I like the idea of high quality and differentiated baby ready meals, which may be in the refrigerator section.

  1. beetroot was a clear winner
  1. For me, like others, pouches are usually a convenience thing for days on the go. For that I would turn to other brands. At home I use a combination of homemade ice-cube purees and blw.

I would definitely buy more of the 'interesting flavour' end of your pouches as a supplement to mix up the 'base' flavours ive already made at home. E.g. I can make apple and pumpkin, can you do the beetroot, artichoke, kale, aubergine, [insert other interesting vegetable here] which I can mix in. Or, I could use it as a pasta/rissoto sauce when my baby is a little older. Your flavours are clearly superior, I just don't want boring old (and sweet) apple. Maybe also consider adding herbs.

This is based on my baby being 8 months now and eating large quantities. Maybe you also want to make the boring apple one but in a smaller size for new weaners to prevent both wastage and the poop issues that others have reported (surely an issue of overconsumption of fruit...).

  1. Like question 1, you've tried to ask two questions here. Please ask one question per question...

You stock it on Ocado where I shop so yes I will likely continue to purchase this product, particularly when on special.

As to pasteurisation method, it's more about the more flavoursome result for me and that being the tradeoff for the 'requires refrigeration'. Extra nutrients are an upside. But I did find myself microwaving one to heat it up tonight, so, I'm not that bothered.

  1. Yes I'd recommend your interesting flavours. Maybe as a baby food, or for the beetroot one maybe as an interesting sauce for a walnut goat cheese salad....

  1. Did you know that until My First Savsé came along, there was chilled pet food available in retailers but no chilled baby food? Will this change the way you shop for your little one?

I had seen refrigerated pet food in shops but didn't know that you couldn't get baby food refrigerated. I tend to mostly make my own or he eats a lot of stuff as finger foods too so don't buy pouches too often not having a lot of money also have to be careful to check all ingredients. He did like these and they're fresh one of my issues would be they seemed they had been frozen when they arrived so the not being able to freeze them as you had a short usage time once opened would maybe put me off bit.

  1. Which was your little one’s favourite recipe from the My First Savsé Stage 1 range?

He loved the prune & plum one he had half in with porridge then the other half for lunch. He also loved the pear pea apple and spinach one.

  1. How could My First Savsé improve their recipes? How would you say My First Savsé compares to the current offering of baby food pouches in?

They all had a lot of fruit in them I do use fruit in my los savoury puree but only like a bit of Apple a lot of them seemed to be more fruit than veg. I normally get the aldi pouches if I do get him any. The my first savsé ones looked fresher when opened and smell a lot better. The packaging looks nice fresh and light too

  1. Knowing that My First Savsé is never heat pasteurised, would you purchase My First Savsé if it was widely available in supermarkets, and why?

I would if we were out and wanted to get it for him to eat there and then or maybe as a treat as they are a little out of my price range at the minute I understand a lot goes into making stuff like this but babies cost a lot already... maybe a bit different when back to work and have a bit more money again.

  1. Would you recommend My First Savsé baby food to a friend or family member, why?

I would recommend them to friends as they are all fruit and vegetables and tasty too

The only one my lo didn't seem as Keane on was the carrot lentil and sweet potato one which was a bit strange as I make that for him a lot. It may have been the fact I was going out and his Nanny was feeding him it so he was being a bit cranky or his teething sore gums but he did eat it all up just moaned whilst he did so. He didn't get to try the coconut cocoa one as it had burst don't know if it was from it being frozen before it arrived the expansion in the packaging may have weakened it. Really wanted him to try that one as I though the cocoa would be a nice treat and I love coconut so hoping he does too.

cakeandteajustforme · 16/08/2017 08:16

Further Ronny post last night I am wondering if MNHQ can clarify something I read on one of the packets this morning - it says 'once removed from fridge eat within 6 hours'. So that presumably means I can sling it in a bag and take out for lunch? If so then it is equally useful as other pouches. May need to market the 'when it needs refrigeration and when it doesnt' point better.

i was aware there was no chilled baby food, didn't know about the pet food (have no pets). I've always felt a bit rubbish giving my baby stuff out of jars so if I could afford fresh, I'd buy it.

  1. Which was your little one’s favourite recipe from the My First Savsé Stage 1 range?
Liked them all but the coconut and cacao was the favourite
  1. How could My First Savsé improve their recipes? How would you say My First Savsé compares to the current offering of baby food pouches in supermarkets?
As others have said, too much fruit- it would be nice to have a bit more of a savoury choice, and a wider range in general.
  1. Knowing that My First Savsé is never heat pasteurised, would you purchase My First Savsé if it was widely available in supermarkets, and why?
Yes, if affordable, as it would be the closest thing to making fresh. I always feel slightly guilty giving my baby jars / pouches and feel it's the equivalent to giving my older DC tins or jars of food.
  1. Would you recommend My First Savsé baby food to a friend or family member?
Yes, I'd mention them as something to consider.

Oh and as cakeandtea says the instructions on when they need to be refrigerated need to be clearer, at the moment it is ambiguous. I assume you'd need to treat the pouch differently if opened or not but it is unclear.

1. Did you know that until My First Savsé came along, there was chilled pet food available in retailers but no chilled baby food? Will this change the way you shop for your little one?
I didn't know this. It's made me think about what's in other babyfoods which allows it to have such a long shelf life. It's made me reconsider how I shop for LO.

2. Which was your little one’s favourite recipe from the My First Savsé Stage 1 range?
the coconut cacao one.

3. How could My First Savsé improve their recipes? How would you say My First Savsé compares to the current offering of baby food pouches in supermarkets?
There's a lot of apple in it, which makes me consider the value of it, as it's on the expensive side of products. More savoury options?
I think it's tasty, and healthy. My child didn't seem to have any issues with the products, as others here have said theirs have.

4. Knowing that My First Savsé is never heat pasteurised, would you purchase My First Savsé if it was widely available in supermarkets, and why?
Though Ithink it's a great idea, and I might get a couple to go in the fridge, I tend to use pouches for their convenience a keep one in my bag- which I wouldnt be able to do with the product as it requires chilling.

5. Would you recommend My First Savsé baby food to a friend or family member, and why?
I'd definitely mention it- as the flavours are nice and the ingredients are pretty good. But hearing about how others have reacted- I'd mention that

  1. Did you know that until My First Savsé came along, there was chilled pet food available in retailers but no chilled baby food? Will this change the way you shop for your little one?
I had no idea you could buy chillled pet food. For me, the fact that it's chilled is probably more of a negative. I like pouches for keeping in my bag for unforeseen circumstances or for long days away from home.
  1. Which was your little one’s favourite recipe from the My First Savsé Stage 1 range?
The cucumber, kiwi, kale, spinach, apple & banana, the carrot, pumpkin, apple & beetroot and the pear, pea, apple & spinach all went down very well with DS. DD1 & DD2 also wanted a taste (they're 6 & 4) and they enjoyed them too. Their favourite was the coconut, cacao, apple & banana. DH thought they were all tasty.
  1. How could My First Savsé improve their recipes? How would you say My First Savsé compares to the current offering of baby food pouches in supermarkets?
The flavours are much better - the taste is more natural and tastes like a raw smoothie. The problems are the price and that they need to be kept chilled.
  1. Knowing that My First Savsé is never heat pasteurised, would you purchase My First Savsé if it was widely available in supermarkets, and why?
Possibly, but only if they were the same price as other pouches.
  1. Would you recommend My First Savsé baby food to a friend or family member, and why?
Yes, but not at the price they are.

I knew there were no pouches in the chilled section. Tbh it's easier when pouches aren't chilled as if I buy a pouch it's for convenience taking food out and about.

  1. Which was your little one’s favourite recipe from the My First Savsé Stage 1 range?

He liked all of them. Probably the coconut one the best.

  1. How could My First Savsé improve their recipes? How would you say My First Savsé compares to the current offering of baby food pouches in supermarkets?

I would prefer them not to all contain apple.

  1. Knowing that My First Savsé is never heat pasteurised, would you purchase My First Savsé if it was widely available in supermarkets, and why?

Doesn't mean anything to me if I'm honest. Sounds like a marketing ploy. Sounds like these pouches are very expensive so although my baby enjoyed them I'd be more likely to purchase cheaper pouches.

  1. Would you recommend My First Savsé baby food to a friend or family member, and why?

I'd recommend them in terms of flavour but not price.

1. Did you know that until My First Savsé came along, there was chilled pet food available in retailers but no chilled baby food? Will this change the way you shop for your little one?

No, I have never looked for chilled baby food before. I don't think it will change how I shop at all as though my baby liked them, I was unhappy with the amount of apple in them vs. veg. They were too sweet for my 11 month old really.

2. Which was your little one’s favourite recipe from the My First Savsé Stage 1 range?

She enjoyed them all except the out of date one that we never recieved a replacement for so couldn't try as such. The best was the apple, which I tasted too and was nice.

3. How could My First Savsé improve their recipes? How would you say My First Savsé compares to the current offering of baby food pouches in supermarkets?

I would say to make them less liquidy, as even for a 6m old they are so runny and hard to keep on a spoon. And reduce the fruit content. I would rather but ones with no fruit for meals and fruit for pudding.

4. Knowing that My First Savsé is never heat pasteurised, would you purchase My First Savsé if it was widely available in supermarkets, and why?

No, due to the sugar/fruit content. It is not really great for a meal for my 11m old.

5. Would you recommend My First Savsé baby food to a friend or family member, and why?

Maybe for a first taste of food but not for older babies no. I was very disappointed that I was sent out of date food in a bubble bag that got left on my doorstep in the sun. It was never replaced despite mumsnet saying that it would be. I was also annoyed to see it advertises suitability from 4m when guidelines say food should be 6m.

StealthPolarBear · 16/08/2017 12:49

I'm starting to wonder if these actually need to be refrigerated or if that is just a marketing thing.

There's no question we need fresher, more nutritious options but I don't think this fact is going to change my shopping.
  1. Which was your little one’s favourite recipe from the My First Savsé Stage 1 range?
She happily ate them all - she really liked the one with the Beetroot in it
  1. How could My First Savsé improve their recipes? How would you say My First Savsé compares to the current offering of baby food pouches in supermarkets?
They were all nice but they were very thin and watery and also very sweet - nice as a treat or a snack but I had to feed her just as much of her normal food to fill her up - they would never have been enough on their own. Also, they didn't have any protein in them. Adding an option with protein would be good. Personally I would buy them more if they were marketed as a healthy baby/toddler snack the same way some of the Ellas pouches are but not as a main meal option. Actually if they marketed them the same way cold-pressed juice is marketed (not as a main meal but as a healthy addition to your diet) I'd say they'd do better.
  1. Knowing that My First Savsé is never heat pasteurised, would you purchase My First Savsé if it was widely available in supermarkets, and why?
I would buy it over other baby foods if it wasn't massively more expensive as a one off if I needed to feed my baby but I normally make my own food at home and I wouldn't substitute this because they weren't substantial enough.
  1. Would you recommend My First Savsé baby food to a friend or family member, and why? Yes, Yes and no - Yes for a very young baby started off weaning if homemade wasn't an option. Yes as a healthy addition to a baby's diet but no, not as a main meal substitute because they just aren't substantial enough.

Am also slightly worried now that I didn't check the dates on them all after reading other people's posts!!
