This is the feedback thread for the 500 Mumsnetters who have been testing brand new range of cold-pressed baby food, My First Savsé.

Here’s what Guka, the founder of Savsé has to say: “When we looked at manufactured baby food, we realised babies weren’t getting the nutrients they deserved. Refusing to feed my own child pasteurised product, I wanted to push boundaries and create the freshest baby food possible. After all, real food isn’t just for adults.

This is why we created My First Savsé – Europe’s first cold-pressed, HPP baby food that’s as good as homemade. Unlike heat pasteurised baby food – which experiences a shocking 40% reduction in nutritional value – with My First Savsé the nutritional value of our 100% Organic, Grade A fruit and veg is never* compromised.

*Source: Fruselva Laboratories, July 2017 (tests carried out vs. heat pasteurised competitor x)”

Also from My First Savsé: “By cold-pressing our fruit and veg we don’t strip the goodness, replacing heat pasteurisation in favour of non-thermal High Pressure Processing (HPP) to ensure all vital nutrients are locked into each pouch, removing any nasties without compromising on taste or quality.

A busy parent will have to make a million compromises on a daily basis, but quality nutrition for their baby should never be one of them. However, with 1 in 4 parents unable to prepare homemade baby food due to work pressures, many have been forced to rely on heat pasteurised options bought in-store, with a sell by date often older than the babies themselves! But compromise no more. Our brand new cold-pressed baby food range, My First Savsé, has solved the problem - because babies deserve real food too.

Unlike heat pasteurised baby food, you won’t find My First Savsé in the baby aisle - oh no. You’ll find it in the chiller, alongside all the other fresh products!”

Testers, once the products are finished, please answer the below questions as well as leaving any other feedback you have:

1. Did you know that until My First Savsé came along, there was chilled pet food available in retailers but no chilled baby food? Will this change the way you shop for your little one?
2. Which was your little one’s favourite recipe from the My First Savsé Stage 1 range?
3. How could My First Savsé improve their recipes? How would you say My First Savsé compares to the current offering of baby food pouches in supermarkets?
4. Knowing that My First Savsé is never heat pasteurised, would you purchase My First Savsé if it was widely available in supermarkets, and why?
5. Would you recommend My First Savsé baby food to a friend or family member, and why?

We’d also love to see some photos of your little one testing My First Savsé cold-pressed baby food, so please share on the thread if you can.

If you’d like to share your experience on social media, please do using the hashtag #myfirstsavse

All testers who complete the required feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

Unfortunately we discovered that my son is intolerant to gluten whilst doing the testing so there were a lot of days when he was sick and unable to eat and then lost his appetite. Still, we did manage to get him to taste at least a little of each one.

1.Did you know that until My First Savsé came along, there was chilled pet food available in retailers but no chilled baby food? Will this change the way you shop for your little one?

I didn’t know this. With my first child I generally made my own purees so didn’t have that much experience of shop bought except for emergencies.

2. Which was your little one’s favourite recipe from the My First Savsé Stage 1 range?

Blueberry prune, plum, apple and banana.

3. How could My First Savsé improve their recipes? How would you say My First Savsé compares to the current offering of baby food pouches in supermarkets?

I didn’t really see the need for there to be a cocoa flavoured one for such small babies.

4. Knowing that My First Savsé is never heat pasteurised, would you purchase My First Savsé if it was widely available in supermarkets, and why?

Unfortunately not, its just too expensive.

5. Would you recommend My First Savsé baby food to a friend or family member, and why?

Again, not really due to the expense. If the pouches were smaller, there would be less waste and the price point would be comparable with others on the market.

My main point would be that they seemed very big pouches for such smooth purees which would be for babies who have just started weaning. Generally my little one would only have a tiny bit and then with such a short shelf life, a lot was wasted.

Also, I usually only use pouches for emergencies. As these have to be kept refrigerated, this defeats the object for me of them being portable and easy to take out.

Probably not. We do BLW so my child usually eats fresh food anyway. Just because there is chilled dog food doesn't mean I would buy that either!!

  1. Which was your little one’s favourite recipe from the My First Savsé Stage 1 range?
Scoffed them all. Probably because they were mostly apple, and therefore all very sweet.
  1. How could My First Savsé improve their recipes? How would you say My First Savsé compares to the current offering of baby food pouches in supermarkets?
Nice to see some "interesting" flavours. I strongl y believe we should be feeding our children "real" food. However, on further investigation I was disappointed to realise that the reality was that they were mostly pureed apple - so all sweet and bland based. Would have much preferred to see real recipes, rather than just apple with some middle class flavouring.
  1. Knowing that My First Savsé is never heat pasteurised, would you purchase My First Savsé if it was widely available in supermarkets, and why?

Probably not. As said above, we usually do BLW. However, my son has lots of allergies, so usually use pouches when out and about and it will be difficult to get work out what he could safely eat. Pouches that need to be kept in the fridge are not very convenient for this!! (On a related note, took ages to find information about how long they could be out of the fridge for - that should be more prominently displayed!)

  1. Would you recommend My First Savsé baby food to a friend or family member, and why?

If people were planning to use ready prepared baby food, I might mention them. But would warn about the high concentration of apple (known to be constipating, and I'm not convinced about the wisdom of weaning with such a sweet base).

  1. I didn't know this but I would much prefer to buy baby food from the chilled section.
  2. He loved all of them apart from the carrot one - I gave them to him for himself to suck out and whether as a snack, mid meal or after a meal he ate it all (he's not a particularly 'greedy' toddler so he wouldn't eat it just for the sake of eating).
  3. Nothing - tasted good and good selection of flavours / ingredients. I would prefer to buy My First Savsé over all the other equivalent products (as I would be giving it to my toddler as a snack / additional part of his meal, I wouldn't buy it if it was too expensive however. When first weaning, if I were to buy pouches the price wouldn't matter.)
  4. I would - seemed much fresher and healthier than other products.
  5. Definitely - good selection of flavours and I liked the healthier feeling about it. I liked that the packaging looked more grown up than others too. Good to get my toddler eating stuff he'd usually turn his nose up (like cucumber - which he didn't realise he was eating but happily ate!).

  1. Did you know that until My First Savsé came along, there was chilled pet food available in retailers but no chilled baby food? Will this change the way you shop for your little one?
No I wasn't aware of this. But then again, I don't have any pets ☺️
  1. Which was your little one’s favourite recipe from the My First Savsé Stage 1 range?
Loved the prune, apple etc.
  1. How could My First Savsé improve their recipes? How would you say My First Savsé compares to the current offering of baby food pouches in supermarkets?
The flavours are quite adventurous, but ingredients should be limited to a maximum of 2. Also, apple doesn't have to be the core flavour of all. Why not Switch it up a bit.
  1. Knowing that My First Savsé is never heat pasteurised, would you purchase My First Savsé if it was widely available in supermarkets, and why?
The flavour blends are yummy, but the price not so yummy 😋. Not everyone could afford "high end" foods when there are so many other good products on the shelf already.
  1. Would you recommend My First Savsé baby food to a friend or family member, and why?
I may because the flavours are adventurous, but at the current price it'll put anyone off. Remember the market is competitive?
FlenChap · 10/09/2017 21:06
  1. No I wasn't aware of this. It did make me think about the quality of what my daughter should be eating and initially made me warm to the concept of the product.
  1. Pea, mint & spinach was her favourite, however it could well be we tried it when she was particularly hungry that day. As we only had one of each pouch it impossible to tell if it was a genuine favourite.
  1. I think the recipes need far less fruit in them, while admittedly fresh and delicious the packaging is misleading with them containing so much apple!
  1. Probably not, I buy pouches for convenience while out and about & is feel uncomfortable not being able to keep the pouches chilled on the move. Rather than being as good as home made I'd just make something which I knew the origins of and how long it will keep for.
  1. I feel it's a good concept but at present needs a little further work with more veg & meat included in the recipes, the purer consistency is also very smooth & so not much of a challenge for my now 10 month old. I understand the retail price is more than £1.50 which is too expensive

  1. Did you know that until My First Savsé came along, there was chilled pet food available in retailers but no chilled baby food? Will this change the way you shop for your little one?
I was aware of chilled pet food, but not aware there wasn't chilled baby food available. It will not change the way I shop.
  1. Which was your little one’s favourite recipe from the My First Savsé Stage 1 range?
He seemed to enjoy all flavours, he did not reject any of them.
  1. How could My First Savsé improve their recipes? How would you say My First Savsé compares to the current offering of baby food pouches in supermarkets?
There needs to be some savoury options they were all very sweet so I offered as a dessert option after a nutritionally balanced meal, unfortunately this meant that most of the packet was wasted as needed to be used in 6 to 12 hours from opening.
  1. Knowing that My First Savsé is never heat pasteurised, would you purchase My First Savsé if it was widely available in supermarkets, and why?
Not really, heat pasteurised meals do not loose all nutritional value, I believe they retain enough to be of sufficient nutrition for a baby, however I prefer home cooked options.
  1. Would you recommend My First Savsé baby food to a friend or family member, and why?
As a back up option perhaps, although I would like to see savoury options. Also if the packets could be purchased in a smaller size that would be appealing as they need to be used up in such a short period. Unfortunately my baby used less than half of each packet, although he enjoyed what he had I was wary of him having a sweet puréed main meal.

  1. Did you know that until My First Savsé came along, there was chilled pet food available in retailers but no chilled baby food? Will this change the way you shop for your little one?
I had absolutely no idea retailers had chilled pet food.. I have not changed the way I buy baby food but if I was after a quick snack I would look out for these.
  1. Which was your little one’s favourite recipe from the My First Savsé Stage 1 range?
The pure apple was her fav.
  1. How could My First Savsé improve their recipes? How would you say My First Savsé compares to the current offering of baby food pouches in supermarkets?
I can't think of anything they can improve on just maybe more variety.
  1. Knowing that My First Savsé is never heat pasteurised, would you purchase My First Savsé if it was widely available in supermarkets, and why?
Yes its an easy grab option
  1. Would you recommend My First Savsé baby food to a friend or family member, and why?
I would so they can see what its like for themselves.

  1. Did you know that until My First Savsé came along, there was chilled pet food available in retailers but no chilled baby food? Will this change the way you shop for your little one?

No I dodnt really know that there were now baby sachets in the chilled aisle, as many have said, i tend only to use these for convenience so something that cannot bethrown in a change bag is not what I personally am looking for...

  1. Which was your little one’s favourite recipe from the My First Savsé Stage 1 range? He wasnt a massive fan, although could have been his age as he was the higher end of the age bracket requested. He did love the plain apple and the cocoa desert one but everything else was rejected.
  1. How could My First Savsé improve their recipes? How would you say My First Savsé compares to the current offering of baby food pouches in supermarkets?
I think the recipes seemed all very fruit based which is something I was hoping to get away from. perhaps look at more savoury dishes..
  1. Knowing that My First Savsé is never heat pasteurised, would you purchase My First Savsé if it was widely available in supermarkets, and why? Would be depend on price but if I am honest I tend to have them in a store cupboard rather than food that I need to store in the fridge.
  1. Would you recommend My First Savsé baby food to a friend or family member, and why? Again, for my needs these are not what I am loooking for. If friends had specific needs for organic, arguably larger nutrients then yes I would absolutely mention the make

  1. Did you know that until My First Savsé came along, there was chilled pet food available in retailers but no chilled baby food? Will this change the way you shop for your little one? No I didn't. I like the idea of fresh food but not the shorter dates
  2. Which was your little one’s favourite recipe from the My First Savsé Stage 1 range? She didn't have a favourite but was quite keen on all of them.
  3. How could My First Savsé improve their recipes? How would you say My First Savsé compares to the current offering of baby food pouches in supermarkets? More varied flavours and less apple.
  4. Knowing that My First Savsé is never heat pasteurised, would you purchase My First Savsé if it was widely available in supermarkets, and why? It's a great idea but I prefer cupboard products.
  5. Would you recommend My First Savsé baby food to a friend or family member, and why? No I wouldn't because the lack of flavour and short dates

  1. Did you know that until My First Savsé came along, there was chilled pet food available in retailers but no chilled baby food? Will this change the way you shop for your little one?
I didn't know about this but will look out for it, especially out and about/on hols as a good healthy choice. I'd look for this but I'd assume that many stores won't stock it for long unless the demand is great enough.
  1. Which was your little one’s favourite recipe from the My First Savsé Stage 1 range?
One of the ones with pear in, she finished it really quickly!
  1. How could My First Savsé improve their recipes? How would you say My First Savsé compares to the current offering of baby food pouches in supermarkets? Not sure, It's not immediately apparent how the ingredients work toether to give a balanced meal but it is reassuring to know there is a range of vitamins/minerals in each pouch and I hope it's introducing other flavours that I may not give her regularly.
  1. Knowing that My First Savsé is never heat pasteurised, would you purchase My First Savsé if it was widely available in supermarkets, and why?
I know that it will retian more goodness than those that are pasturised and yes I would buy it, to know that she's getting a really good meal that will support her.
  1. Would you recommend My First Savsé baby food to a friend or family member, and why?
Yes, but I would recommend they try it more than once as my daughter did not like the first few I tried but has eaten the further ones, not sure if that's due to me trying her with them often, getting used to eating out of the packet or that it's cold but she now is quite happy with them.
Kangakate · 13/09/2017 07:59
  1. I hasn't seen or heard of this product before we were asked to try it, I have tried looking for it in some supermarkets but haven't found it yet. I wouldn't necessarily start buying chilled baby food as the expiry date is shorter.
  2. My daughter loved all of them except the coconut & cacao, I think her favourite was the apple as she had the whole thing and doesn't normally finish a pouch.
  3. I think they were great, a prune mix version would be good as there is only one prune one that I can find out there.
  4. I loved the idea but the price tag is rather expensive considering you have to keep it in the fridge, so taking it away with you could be difficult and once opened it doesn't last long esp if your little one is like mine and takes a few days to finish a pouch
  5. I would recommend but I don't think anyone will due to the price, having read anouther post, I must admit I didn't check the expire dates as I assumed they would be. They didn't cause any digestive upsets and my daughter liked them but she also likes other fruit pouches that are cheaper. I love the idea and I personally think they tasted better then other pouches.

1.Did you know that until My First Savsé came along, there was chilled pet food available in retailers but no chilled baby food? Will this change the way you shop for your little one?

No I'd never heard of chilled pet food or baby food before. This won't change the way I shop for my little one.

2.Which was your little one’s favourite recipe from the My First Savsé Stage 1 range?

The coconut & cocoa one

3.How could My First Savsé improve their recipes? How would you say My First Savsé compares to the current offering of baby food pouches in supermarkets?

I felt that they were all too sweet. Even the savoury ones had a lot of apple/pear for sweetness.

4.Knowing that My First Savsé is never heat pasteurised, would you purchase My First Savsé if it was widely available in supermarkets, and why?

Probably not. I like the fact it is fresh but I felt it want convenient needing to be refrigerated and it didn't last long after opening.

5.Would you recommend My First Savsé baby food to a friend or family member, and why?

No. I felt the need for refrigeration was impractical (I only use jars/pouches for when out and about) and wasteful as once open the food spoils quickly (there were times that my little one had part of a pouch at dinner and I then had to throw the rest away as it wouldn't last until lunch the next day. I thought the consistency was far too runny and I had to mix it with baby cereal to get my son to eat it most of the time (he did like the flavours though)
