- What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?
DD (age 5) read her letter and straight away wrote a reply to Buster Bumblechops asking why he had chosen her to help him. She then stored the letter in her bedside table for safe keeping!
When the box arrived she again read all the material first. She really liked the poem on the box and the jokes. We've heard those jokes a lot this week.
Out of the items inside, she was most drawn to the little Moshling figure first of all.
- Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?
The little red Moshling joined her collection of other Small Cute Things and has been incorporated into a few games. In fairness though she and her little sister actually are more enjoying pretending to be Moshlings themselves!
- Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?
We did, and DD seemed pleased but we haven't really ever played anything similar so don't have anything to compare it to. She particularly liked the ability to shop for her Moshling and decorate its house. In the app there is a link to follow to learn more about trading cards, including an opportunity to send off for free packets. I completed the form only to discover upon submitting that the form was closed to submissions! Seems a bit silly to make a feature of this offer in the Moshi Egg app shop if there is not even a chance to enter. Wasted our time on the form.
- These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?
Too expensive. If there were an extra activity/craft in the box this price would be slightly more palatable, but in all honesty I think I wouldn't want to pay more than £7 per box. I also for some reason thought testers would be given an opportunity to purchase the other two boxes in the series at a discount -- obviously I was mistaken?
- What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?
DD1 really enjoyed the ice excavation activity and we will replicate this with some of our own toys another time. Whilst I think she was drawn to the Moshi Monsters world, I equally think her imagination can be captured by something a bit more affordable. I also think that the 'story' aspect of the box wasn't really in-depth enough which is a shame as for my DD this would have been the biggest draw for her.
- How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?
Unlikely at the stated price. If a discount code was offered to testers to bring it in line with other popular subscription boxes then I would consider it for this 'series' and see about further subscriptions in the future.
- How do you think the experience could be improved?
As above, a more reasonable price point, bigger range of activities and more emphasis on the 'story' element would make this really good fun for children.
I have taken some pictures of my DC enjoying the activities but I don't really want to publish them on MN -- happy to send them to Mind Candy if they want.
