This is the feedback thread for those MNers who tested ScreenLimit parental control app.

Here’s what ScreenLimit has to say about the app:

“ScreenLimit is a parental control app that allows parents to remotely manage their children's screen time from a smartphone, tablet or web browser on any computer.

It works on multiple devices, cross platform on Windows PCs and laptops along with iPhones, iPads, Android and Amazon devices (not Kindle Fire Kids Edition).

Parents can set a daily time allowance, instantly block access to sites, schedule times of the day when devices cannot be used, allow or block specific apps (not iOS), send their children direct messages and reward them for good behaviour. The innovative, built-in rewards function gives children the chance to earn ‘bonus’ screen time in exchange for completing tasks and household chores.

We’re a small team of dedicated parents with a mission to ensure children have a balanced childhood. If you have any issues we’re here to help and will respond quickly! Simply drop us an email at [email protected]

Testers: please answer the following questions:
• Do you think ScreenLimit could be useful for parents to manage screen time?
• How user-friendly did you find ScreenLimit?
• What did you think about the rewards system?
• What does ScreenLimit do really well?
• Are there any other features that you would like to see?

Please also add a review of the app in the Mumsnet reviews section

Everyone who leaves feedback on this thread and fills in the feedback survey will be entered into a prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win a £200 voucher from the store of your choice.

Non Tester - Safari on the phone, we've put in the right blocks to stop inappropriate access but stuff can still get through. We encourage our eldest to honestly talk about things he sees so that we can give him the right guidance without scaring him.

ohlittlepea · 04/06/2017 09:21

AngelwingsPetlamb · 04/06/2017 13:06

Non tester - it has to be You Tube, so much rubbish can be accessed which is a shame because it's also a pretty useful source of ' how to ' information.

happysouls · 04/06/2017 13:11

My son is addicted to Clash of Clans. Having been through a gaming habit myself I can understand it...but it is certainly something to be kept in check!

Squid102 · 04/06/2017 13:12

Non-tester. Another one here for YouTube!

Tester

I think the concept of this app is great and have already recommended it to several people just for the screen-limitation aspect alone.

Do you think ScreenLimit could be useful for parents to manage screen time?
It is extremely useful. The timer works very well and does what it says on the tin. I have set the timer for my children and told them to come upstairs when 20 minutes are up. The roars of outrage after 20 minutes were a joy to hear!

How user-friendly did you find ScreenLimit?
Some parts of it v user-friendly. The set up itself is a bit fiddly and it took me a while to work out that I had to put my PIN into all their devices as well, but once set up the timer works well. My children said it was a bit glitchy on their devices (kindles) and every so often tried to lock them out before righting itself.

What did you think about the rewards system?
I like the idea of it and have set up a few but haven't actually put it into practice as of course we've been on half term so no routine anyway. Reading what other posters have said, I definitely think that the rewards system needs to be implemented by the parent once the reward-gaining task is done and not by the child activating it (if I've understood this correctly).

What does ScreenLimit do really well?
As I've said above, it actually does the screen-time limiting very effectively, so that's a bonus!

Are there any other features that you would like to see?
I think some form of sanction system should be available as well as the reward system. Maybe it's because I'm a terrible mother, but I would like to have a visible way of reducing screen time due to bad behaviour. At the moment, we have started doing it verbally and I then reduce the time manually but some kind of tally might be useful?

hairygodmother · 04/06/2017 13:21

Forgot to say, re messaging: doesn't seem to work? I envisaged that the message would pop up on my children's screens at the time of sending but that doesn't seem to have happened.

Elizasmum02 · 04/06/2017 13:46
