This is the feedback thread for those MNers who tested ScreenLimit parental control app.

Here’s what ScreenLimit has to say about the app:

“ScreenLimit is a parental control app that allows parents to remotely manage their children's screen time from a smartphone, tablet or web browser on any computer.

It works on multiple devices, cross platform on Windows PCs and laptops along with iPhones, iPads, Android and Amazon devices (not Kindle Fire Kids Edition).

Parents can set a daily time allowance, instantly block access to sites, schedule times of the day when devices cannot be used, allow or block specific apps (not iOS), send their children direct messages and reward them for good behaviour. The innovative, built-in rewards function gives children the chance to earn ‘bonus’ screen time in exchange for completing tasks and household chores.

We’re a small team of dedicated parents with a mission to ensure children have a balanced childhood. If you have any issues we’re here to help and will respond quickly! Simply drop us an email at [email protected]

Testers: please answer the following questions:
• Do you think ScreenLimit could be useful for parents to manage screen time?
• How user-friendly did you find ScreenLimit?
• What did you think about the rewards system?
• What does ScreenLimit do really well?
• Are there any other features that you would like to see?

Please also add a review of the app in the Mumsnet reviews section

Everyone who leaves feedback on this thread and fills in the feedback survey will be entered into a prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win a £200 voucher from the store of your choice.

NON TESTERS If you’re not testing, but would like the chance to win a £200 voucher for the store of your choice, please answer the following question by sharing your reply in the feedback thread below:

What app is the most used/misused by your children?

Thanks! And Good Luck with the prize draw!

Wheresmycider · 04/06/2017 19:39

Non tester - most used app is Angry Birds go. Usually results in a flood of tears when he gets stuck on a level and refuses to try any other game 😒

emmav6 · 04/06/2017 19:50

non tester - youtube kids definitely. I do check history but rely heavily on parental controls as they love to watch their youtube stars

littlemonkeyz · 04/06/2017 20:10

My little boy loved Endless ABC and 123 - it really helped with his literacy and numeracy skills from an early age. He also loved Youtube Kids as he can watch steam trains around the world.

What app is the most used/misused by your children?
My daughter is 5 and loves to play on snapchat on my phone. It is a lot more controlled as she can only 'snap' with people I have as friends. She's still young, so I do have safety parental measures on all of our devices, especially for websites and YouTube.

I love YouTube but you cannot leave your child on it without supervision. There are too many malicious people out there now, putting out unsuitable content purposely directing it at young children.

Non tester- Netflix. You tube frightens me it so easily leads you on to something totally random, far too easy for kids to find something inappropriate!

Non tester here, most misused app is the Google play store!! A load of stuff downloaded, most of it rubbish. My niece also managed to spend over £100 on in app purchases because my sister had left the pay details saved to the account - I still didn't know they could be used without entering a password!

finleypop · 05/06/2017 08:58

Non tester - Youtube, my son is always glued to it

SuzCG · 05/06/2017 09:46

Most used by DH and DS would be the BBC iPlayer for CBeebies and catch up.

thesockgap · 05/06/2017 13:52

Hi MNers - another message from ScreenLimit below:

Dear Hairygodmother,

Thanks for testing ScreenLimit.

I'm glad you found it useful, we are working to eliminate any glitches that you mention and also to improve the initial setup process with a setup wizard.

With regards to your point on the rewards system, please note that children can only claim that they have completed a task in their dashboard. Once they have claimed the task and alert will appear in the parent dashboard which the parent can then check and then award that task (parents can also simply award credits for completed tasks without the children having claimed them). The children then store the credits earned and can use those to purchase screen time. We are also working on a future release whereby parents can define other non-screen rewards that children can purchase with credits such as a trip to the zoo.

You can also stipulate negative credits in the rewards system such as -5 credits for being naughty - so the sanction system that you request is already built in!

For the messaging, an alert should pop up on the screen at the time of sending. Children and parents can also view the conversation thread in the message section of the dashboard.

You can contact me at [email protected] if you need an more information.

Kind regards,

Jeremy Drayton
CEO ScreenLimit
