This is the feedback thread for those MNers who tested ScreenLimit parental control app.

Here’s what ScreenLimit has to say about the app:

“ScreenLimit is a parental control app that allows parents to remotely manage their children's screen time from a smartphone, tablet or web browser on any computer.

It works on multiple devices, cross platform on Windows PCs and laptops along with iPhones, iPads, Android and Amazon devices (not Kindle Fire Kids Edition).

Parents can set a daily time allowance, instantly block access to sites, schedule times of the day when devices cannot be used, allow or block specific apps (not iOS), send their children direct messages and reward them for good behaviour. The innovative, built-in rewards function gives children the chance to earn ‘bonus’ screen time in exchange for completing tasks and household chores.

We’re a small team of dedicated parents with a mission to ensure children have a balanced childhood. If you have any issues we’re here to help and will respond quickly! Simply drop us an email at [email protected]

Testers: please answer the following questions:
• Do you think ScreenLimit could be useful for parents to manage screen time?
• How user-friendly did you find ScreenLimit?
• What did you think about the rewards system?
• What does ScreenLimit do really well?
• Are there any other features that you would like to see?

Please also add a review of the app in the Mumsnet reviews section

Everyone who leaves feedback on this thread and fills in the feedback survey will be entered into a prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win a £200 voucher from the store of your choice.

NON TESTERS If you’re not testing, but would like the chance to win a £200 voucher for the store of your choice, please answer the following question by sharing your reply in the feedback thread below:

What app is the most used/misused by your children?

Thanks! And Good Luck with the prize draw!

Non tester - Youtube!

I live with a constant double stream of noise - tv/radio/talking & youtube simultaneously. Don't currently set any screen limits but probably should

LabourWillSaveOurKidsFuture · 01/06/2017 10:28

Non tester - because I'm looking for an app that is able to count cumulative time across devices. No one seems to do this!

Calphurnia · 01/06/2017 11:39

Non tester.

YouTube Kids on my phone because I took YouTube off. Watching older children 'being naughty' was impacting DC's behaviour

DH doesn't want to take YouTube off the iPad, so it's YouTube on that device. I'd like a way of blocking certain contributors as it's really easy to get onto things I'd rather they didn't watch

Ours is Peppa's Paintbox. She loves it and spends hours on it.

Tester:
•Do you think ScreenLimit could be useful for parents to manage screen time? Yes, We currently use different versions of screen limiting software on PC and tablets.
•How user-friendly did you find ScreenLimit? I didn't at all. I think the app has great potential but the website was poorly designed, not intuitive and found on the app it was far too easy to change between Blocked, Timed and Unlimited with a slip of a finger.
•What did you think about the rewards system? I didn't try this but it sounds like a good idea if you want to use that sort of system.
•What does ScreenLimit do really well? I liked the idea of being able to send a message! But actually, in reality, the message was really small and only popped up for a second so easy to miss it. Also, it only works when they are connected to the wifi (internet but tablets only wifi enabled) as do some of the other features which I know is how most would work but until recently, we weren't allowing our DC to connect to the wifi.
•Are there any other features that you would like to see? No, I think it could be a great app, just needs the current features fine tuning.

Non-tester. I would say YouTube is the most used - though I wouldn't say we abuse it.

Wolfcub · 01/06/2017 14:42

Non-tester. YouTube is only allowed on the main television in the house so that it can be monitored but the most misused app on a handheld device is mine craft!

DreamsInBlack · 01/06/2017 15:17

Like others, it's probably YouTube but, thankfully, my son also has a great interest in science and the news so utilises those types of apps, too. Apps can be a good thing, too!

wendyonthefarm · 01/06/2017 15:52

Non tester. Most used and misused is YouTube

Rigbyroo · 01/06/2017 15:54

Non tester. My children love the CBeebies app.

Ruthcarr1990 · 01/06/2017 17:05

Non tester in my house it's YouTube or kids you tube depending on what device it's being watched on. Xx

RueDeDay · 01/06/2017 17:16

Non tester. Yet another one voting YouTube. DD would rather watch other people opening and playing things than actually playing with her own toys Confused

littletwofeet · 01/06/2017 17:24

No tester - YouTube is most overused!

RueDeWakening · 01/06/2017 18:01

Non tester - mine use YouTube or Minecraft PE.

They would use roblox but they're already banned due to me discovering the parental controls really aren't sufficient to keep them secure.

UpOnDown · 01/06/2017 18:09

non-tester.

What app is the most used/misused by your children? Youtube!

dickinson13 · 01/06/2017 18:12

Non-tester definitely YouTube by both of my children! I get fed up of them watching rubbish videos!

NettleTea · 01/06/2017 18:26

non tester - agree with the many YouTube - whereas I have adult content filters for websites, youtube doesnt appear to have any such thing, and Ive found my son watching stuff I really dont think he should have been watching

VilootShesCute · 01/06/2017 18:50

Non tester. Definitely YouTube Confused

Do you think that Screenlimit could be useful for parents to manage screen time?

Yes I do, my dd would spend all day online given the chance so it's a good thing to be able to limit it. Although a lot of her homework for maths and languages is online and some requires online research so if possible it would be good to differentiate between necessary screen time and leisure.

How user friendly did you find Screenlimit?

A challenge to initially set up but I then got used to it.

What does Screenlimit do really well?

It does what it should. I prefer to reward my dd myself for what she achieves herself and would rather not have the rewards built into this as it then links the device to reward.

Are there any features that you would like to see?

Differentiation between online use. Homework time and leisure screen time.

Summergarden · 01/06/2017 20:23

Non-tester here

The most used (and also mis-used) app is YouTube by my children.
