Zurich ‘Value Your World’ feedback thread - £300 voucher to be won for feedback

This is the feedback thread for the Mumsnetters who are testing Zurich’s ‘Value your World’ tool.

Here’s what Zurich have to say: ‘Value Your World’ is a tool that helps users assess whether they’ve got enough life insurance in place to cover their loved ones should the worst happen. While a lot of people have some form of life insurance, it’s hard to know whether you’ve thought of everything and whether you’ve got the right kind of cover for your family. Value Your World asks a series of questions to help users understand what’s valuable to them, and whether they’ve got enough cover in place. If a user finds that they could do with a bit more life insurance, they can also get a series of quick quotes and apply online in a few simple steps.’

Testers, here are some questions we’d like to hear your answers to, but also feel free to add any other comments you have about Zurich’s ‘Value Your World’ tool.

  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?

All those selected who give the required feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Really easy to understand, straightforward questions and helpful text answered any questions I might have had.

It definitely proved helpful, particularly the cost of rearing / educating children I think I had underestimated. Particularly my life insurance needs as opposed to my spouse as the main earner.

  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
It has, I'll need to reevaluate what I have currently and see exactly what the gap is.

  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?
None for me - I was really impressed.

NerrSnerr · 11/10/2016 15:56

No, luckily we're already well covered

  1. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?

More options so that the information can be more personalised.

  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? Yes massive gap and will need to look at a new policy

herebehippos · 11/10/2016 16:54

It was a bit slow but better in Firefox than chrome. Too tricky on a phone.

  1. Yes very clear and straight forward
  2. Yes, I already knew I had a gap but it was good to know how much.
4.I was actually already going to take action just needed to know how much I needed!
  1. Can't think of any

  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?

I think it looks nice. Clean, simple and contemporary.

  1. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?

I did yes. It was really easy to use, and for anything that might have been difficult to understand there were explanations.

  1. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?

I'm not sure, the amount was much, much higher than expected, but I hadn't really thought about it before. I don't have life insurance currently. It would be interesting to see how it compares with the cover my husband currently has. I had never thought about children's education before.

) Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?

It is something I need to thinmk about, especially now I have a child. I think the tool has made me think about what I need to cover

) What improvements would you like to see in the tool?

None I don't think.

Julju · 11/10/2016 17:36
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?

Really intuitive and easy to use in terms of look and feel. Not too much info to input at each step so felt like it was leading you through the stages.

  1. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
No, I'm not familiar with some of the financial terms used so I had to Google and even then not entirely convinced I answered correctly because of that.

  2. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?

I know I do because I don't have life insurance. I'm not sure how much to trust the result because I had to make some assumptions about what it was asking me.

  1. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?

Yes - gave me an idea about what I need to take into consideration when deciding my cover. I will use the tool again once I've had time to go away to look into the terminology.

  1. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?

Make it "idiot proof". An extra level of handholding would have been really useful.

  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? Seemed to be designed well and was easy to use although see later comments on my personal situation
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?

Tool itself was straightforward to use

  1. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?

As someone who doesn't own a house I found it frustrating as it meant I had no idea how much I wouldneed to cover this
4) Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
No as I had no idea how much I would need.
5) What improvements would you like to see in the tool?
Take into account people who rent houses as well

mummytime · 11/10/2016 17:55
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? Very Easy to use
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? Yes
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? Interesting, but said I needed to pay more out as life cover than I get as income, and didn't allow for the fact that a lot of this is covered by my husband's income.
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? Think about it when my income goes up
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool? A chance to do it on a family rahter than individual basis.
lovealotbear · 11/10/2016 17:57
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?

It was easy to use. Looked modern and bright.

  1. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand?

Yes very straightforward and I understood all the terms.

  1. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find a protection gap?

Yes was useful to look at some figures although a little scary. I expected to find a protection gap as this is designed by an insurance company to sell life insurance!

  1. Did the tool inspire you to take action?

No not at the present as currently focusing on clearing down the mortgage as quickly as possible.

  1. What improvements would you like to see?

The flexibility on school fees etc was not great. It assumed that if children were in state or private schools they would always remain in these. I think the tool is great as a overall guide but if you want more personalised information you need to speak to a human.

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to try out this tool.

chubbyteacher · 11/10/2016 19:13
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? Great, worked well and looked good on my phone and was easy to use.
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? Yes, I like the way it progressed through the questions rather than presenting you with a long form.
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? It was useful, I need to think about my cover.
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? Yes, I thank I will get my husband to do it too and then we can discuss it.
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool? None really, it worked well for me.
BreatheInAndOut · 11/10/2016 20:07
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? Easy to use.
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? Yes, struggled a little bit on my iPhone and could have answered in more detail.
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? Yes, although we would need to provide more information for life insurance.
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? I have tried to find life insurance but unable to find cover, this didn't progress me further.
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool? Tool itself was fine, but more developed for complex cases, such as illness and partners income.
Sunseed · 11/10/2016 20:17
  1. Design of the tool? Very clear and uncluttered so easy to navigate around.

  2. Easy to use understand? Yes, easy to use and didn't require too much input to start with. But I was a bit startled by some of the figures it started throwing in on the left hand side. It was only when I got to the notes on the fine tuning page that I was able to understand what the assumptions were.

  3. Helpful? Protection gap? I was fully expecting to see a gap because I already know there is one. However, what was interesting was how it was using statistical assumptions such as average cost of raising a child, which is in contrast to the traditional method of using income multiples to identify potential requirements for adequate cover.

  4. Inspire me to take action? Not really. While I have a theoretical gap, I haven't addressed that because of affordability. I have a good level of cover at the moment at a price that is sustainable because it has been running for a number of years now.

  5. Improvements? Maybe a bit more in the fine tuning so that it can take account of the fact that my husband has cover too. For instance, if we both have cover for our mortgage and then one of us dies and the mortgage is paid off, the survivor's cover could be put towards providing for the children in the event of a second death. So between us we have everything covered but don't both need to provide the full amount of mortgage plus dependents.

WitteryTwittery · 11/10/2016 20:36

  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?
Used it on mobile and the whole screen was taken up by some circle at the top with flip flops in it and telling me how much my current cover was at each stage of the questions and I had to scroll down to the questions which was annoying.

  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
Yes fine to use. Fine to understand.

  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
We rent and don't have a mortgage, so not really relevant as the tool didn't apply to renters. Also it seemed a bit overreacting - my yearly income is £16K, I can't see how we need over 250K to replace me if I die! Grin

  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
No, I get a death in service grant which would be enough I think. DH has a life insurance quote we are happy with.

  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?
Make it applicable to renters. Also it seems to automatically assume that raising a child to adulthood is 100k or something (and I said state education and not helping my child through uni!) which seems excessive. Lots of us are raising our children on far far far less!!!

foxessocks · 11/10/2016 21:19
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?

It was easy to use

  1. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
    Yes. It was simple

  2. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap! Yes it was surprising . Yes I did

  3. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? Yes I will be looking into it further

  4. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?
I can't think of any it was pretty much perfect for me

smallchair · 11/10/2016 21:51
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? It was clear how to use it and uncluttered
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? Yes it was easy, led me through the steps in a logical fashion
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? I found it useful though felt that it perhaps over estimated children's education requirements. I had a gap of around 60k but I feel comfortable that I have an adequate amount of cover
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? No
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool? I can't think of any improvements I would make
AGnu · 11/10/2016 22:17
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? Clean & efficient
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? Yes, the questions were clear.
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? Yes, it's made me think about the money we save by me being a SAHM & how DH would cope without me.
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? If we had any money spare it might!
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool? Nothing, seems fine as is.

  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? Liked the design, very clean and stylish.
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? Yes. Very straightforward and liked the explanations to the questions/potential answers.
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? Yes it was helpful and yes I didn't realise quite how much we'd need to potentially fund university!
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? No.
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool? Can't think of any obvious ones.
GozerTheGozerian · 12/10/2016 00:05

1/ design - straightforward and simple

2/ easy to use? Yes, clear with sensible questions

3/ very helpful. Tbh I'd always thought I am slightly over insured and this proved me wrong!

4/ No but only as I have been prudent in the past

5/ none

Strawclutching · 12/10/2016 10:21
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?

Really simple and clear. Loved the simplicity of it.

  1. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?

Yes incredibly easy. These things normally baffle me, even when they are described as 'quick and easy tools'. I was dreading testing it to be honest but found it quite refreshing.

  1. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? Yes really helpful. We will definitely look at using to get life insurance.

  2. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
Yes- couldn't believe I was being offered that much cover!

  3. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?

Nothing really. Thought it was really easy. I suppose maybe a check list at the beginning perhaps? Like pension figures? Exact salary? (I'm self employed so I had to go through our account to get an idea.) But that might put people off going further.

Tenpastlate · 12/10/2016 11:40
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?
Very clear and simple. Straighforward language.

  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
Yes. It is in plain language and has information points for further clarification.

  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
It made me think hard about existing policies I have and if they are adequate.

  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
Yes, it inspired me to double check existing policies for DH and me.

  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?
Maybe an online chat function with an advisor, although not sure of the legal disclaimers which may need to apply.

Okkitokkiunga · 12/10/2016 12:09
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?

Very easy to use and straightforward, so good design

  1. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?

Questions and explanations were not couched in legal/financial jargon. The information required was obvious and it was quick to fill in.

  1. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?

It was a useful tool, especially as it confirmed that I have enough protection already in place.

  1. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?

No, as I have enough cover in place, but it is nice to know that should I increase it, it will provide frivolities and not necessities for my family.

  1. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?

Perhaps a bit more detail regarding life insurance for mortgage cover. For example, we have a joint policy that is valued higher than the remainder of our mortgage and although I included it in the overall figures, I would rather see it split out.

OfflineFor40Years · 12/10/2016 13:47
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? Clean and simple. I liked the updating of the cover at each stage.
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? Yes. Instructions were clear and descriptive.
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? Yes. I do have a protection gap but it presumes the cost of education is high (ours is not).
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? No, not yet. I may think about it again later.
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool? The ability to manually adjust some of the output figures e.g. education as mentioned above.
thefatladyscreams · 12/10/2016 14:07
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?
Excellent, clean, attractive and easy to use without overly dumbing down the analysis. Loved the design, colours and product name.

  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
Yes worked very well for me but it needs to be adapted for people who are renting. Loved seeing the immediate impact of each individual choice - e.g. schooling, additional sums etc.

  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
It was helpful and reassuring as we don't have a protection gap.

  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
No - as we don't have a gap.

  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?
Maybe the ability to bespoke a little bit more. I'd have liked a bit more guidance on the pensions question as I think any entitlements on spouses pensions might not be straightforward. But that might be outside the remit of an online tool like this.

MyKingdomForBrie · 12/10/2016 20:49
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? Mostly good, apart from slight niggles set out below. Probably should start you on the 'do you have a gap' rather than 'get a quote' as I did it backwards only covering my mortgage first time.
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? Easy to understand but irritating to have to press 'next' for every question. Could do with an 'info' button next to questions like the critical illness cover one - don't really know fully what that entails, why you can't get whole life cover with it etc.
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? Yes I have a large protection gap! Good triggers for what to think about covering.
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? It did make me think about it but it gave me a hugely high quote that was not affordable
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool? I definitely second the idea to use drop down list rather than keyboard entry for number inputs and default to a zero - that was annoyingly repetitive
thestylethatdecadesforgot · 12/10/2016 20:55
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?
I liked it. It was clear and not too demanding! I did find it slow on the iPad though.

  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
It was easy to use yes. The explanations if you clicked the little i next to the question were pretty helpful. Although, I still didn't really understand the critical illness cover and the duration of cover section, even after reading the explanation. I'm not sure if you opted for a certain length of cover and you don't use the policy in that time, whether it expires and your money is wasted, or if you get a pay out. Perhaps thats just me being naive.

  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
Yes, it was great. I'm sorry, I didn't spot a protection gap? Does that mean, something I'd forgotten to account for in working out what would be required for my loved ones in case of a premature death? If so, no, not really, I felt like I'd covered all the questions that were asked.

  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
We don't have any life insurance at the moment and have been planning to get some, which was why I wanted to do the test. I have tried a few others online and found them to be unhelpful, so was keen to try Zurich. I was pleasantly surprised at the price per month that came out, I was expecting a huge figure based on what I would like to pay out. It's possible that I've done it wrong but I'm definitely contacting them for further information prior to taking out a policy. So thank you for including me!

  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?
Possibly being able to do a live chat with an advisory once a basic quote had come through. This would help to just fill in some of the gaps and would encourage me to go ahead and finalise the policy because I have to set aside time to make a complex phone call like that with the kids around and a live chat would probably force me to get it sorted out once and for all!
