This is the feedback thread for the Mumsnetters who are testing Zurich’s ‘Value your World’ tool.

Here’s what Zurich have to say: ‘Value Your World’ is a tool that helps users assess whether they’ve got enough life insurance in place to cover their loved ones should the worst happen. While a lot of people have some form of life insurance, it’s hard to know whether you’ve thought of everything and whether you’ve got the right kind of cover for your family. Value Your World asks a series of questions to help users understand what’s valuable to them, and whether they’ve got enough cover in place. If a user finds that they could do with a bit more life insurance, they can also get a series of quick quotes and apply online in a few simple steps.’

Testers, here are some questions we’d like to hear your answers to, but also feel free to add any other comments you have about Zurich’s ‘Value Your World’ tool.

  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?

All those selected who give the required feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? Simple and easy in a good way.
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? Yes overall. It was strange to be asked about education when I actually have no idea yet what little one wants to do as she's 1 year old. A few questions I felt needed an example next to it.
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? It has made me think for sure. Some things I have not even thought about. So yes was helpful.
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? Again has definitely made me think about my cover and will probably take another look.
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool? Definitely a drop down bar for answers.

  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? Easy to use
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? Yes straightforward
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? Made me think about it
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? Will probably review it
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool? None at this point. But tool maybe more applicable when dcs are older
43percentburnt · 09/10/2016 06:53
  1. straightforward and easy to navigate
  2. quick providing you know all the info required
  3. we already have rather a lot of cover in place
  4. no - but we have reviewed a couple of years ago following a child's birth
  5. as others have said a rent £. I didn't notice this as I have a mortgage. Rent is likely to rise as time goes on (mortgages tend to be less of a % of wages as you get older) this should be factored in.

  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?

Really easy to use with a clear indication of how much progress you had made with the questionnaire.

  1. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?

It was quick, much quicker than I expected, with an estimate of the cover needed at the end. I liked that you could click to adjust the figures at the end and that this had the figure needed for each area clearly explained.

  1. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?

Yes, I did find that we had a protection gap but because I had to make some guesses (I'm pregnant, so needed to adjust figures to factor this in for another child, we home educate and I guessed at the cost of this), I don't think it was particularly accurate. This isn't really a fault in the tool though, there were options to adjust the figures and it was certainly helpful in the sense that it made me realise that we really need to do something about our life insurance cover (or lack thereof).

  1. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?

It will, it hasn't yet as I really need to look more accurately at our figures.

  1. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?

None, it was really simple to use, had useful estimates of the cost of various things (education etc), and options to adjust figures for your own circumstances.

  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?
I liked the design of the tool, simple to navigate and easy to use

  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
Yes, very easy. Everything was laid out neatly so it a smooth and simple experience

  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
Yes, I found it educational to find out how much protection I should be looking at getting to take care of my family.

  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
It has certainly made me consider taking out a larger sum to insure my family. I will be sitting down with my partner and talking about our best options

  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?
I don't think any improvements are needed, it's already quick and simple to use and gives a quote button at the end should you wish to take it further.

Whyhellodaffodil · 10/10/2016 16:32
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? I liked it, clear and simple
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? Yes, I liked the way you could see what the assumptions they had made and amend it if they weren't relevant
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? Yes, it was helpful and yes we did - particularly for the child's education as university seems a long way off
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? Yes - in the process now of extending our mortgage only life insurance to cover things like education and living costs
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool? It was odd it didn't ask for joint income, I did it just for me but wasn't sure where to put our joint income, so it isn't the most accuracy figure I don't think? Will have to do it again with our joint income.

Thanks for extension the deadline for us tardy folk too!

HELENSCRESCENT · 10/10/2016 16:32
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?
Simple to use and the images made it less formal

  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
Easy to use but found some of the questions a bit difficult to understand as I have no experience of life insurance.

  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
Not particularly as the answer didn't make much sense to me

  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
    No

  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?
An option for rental rather than homeowners only

We’ve used it to estimate how much you might need to protect your world: £310173.00

GeekyWombat · 10/10/2016 16:42
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?
Simple, easy to follow. I liked the details of the little animations to brighten it up without making it tough to view on my phone.

  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
Yes, although in a couple of places it left me a bit mind-boggled - I'd never thought about how much it would cost to bring up my kids in hard real cash terms. It was thought provoking and a bit terrifying!

  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
It was really helpful although I don't have enough knowledge of the benefits of a fixed term / full life policy to know which I'd need. Additional explanation would have been helpful!

  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
Yes. The quote (even without extenuating medical circumstances) is £100 a month cheaper than our current combined life insurance for double the amount of cover. I'll be looking into changing (although ironically I couldn't see how to do that through the test site!).

  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?
A bit more info about the variables - critical illness / fixed vs entire life term / inflation or not inflation to explain the ramifications.

EwanWhosearmy · 10/10/2016 16:50
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? Very straightforward, and easy to use on a phone
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? Yes. The instructions were clear and it seemed intuitive
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? Yes it did, and there was a gap. But I had a job working out what to put in for pension death in service benefits, so the gap may not be as large as it seemed.
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? Not to alter, but I did check the value of the cover we already have.
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool? Bit more clarity on the pension benefits side, and yes to entering DH's pay as well.
DoloresVanCartier · 10/10/2016 17:21
  1. Simple, straightforward
  2. It was easy to use. I'm a numptie when it comes to stuff like this so it wasn't until the end I realised that the cover was a payout if I died... I'm still not sure ... sorry
  3. It's made me think, but I'm not in a position to do anything about it just now.
  4. when I'm in a position to do so, definite yes.
  5. I didn't like the keyboard to key in, a drop down menu is preferable
Doobydoo · 10/10/2016 17:30

2.Simple and easy to use!

TeddyIsaHe · 10/10/2016 18:36

1) What do you think of the design of the tool?

Very clearly laid out, not complicated or fussy at all which is nice to see. It makes the whole experience a lot easier - less likely to get frustrated and log off to try again later, whereupon never returning.

2) Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?

Very easy to use and understand. Labels around the questions were very helpful.

3) Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?

It made me realise how important life insurance actually is, and how much it would help should the absolute worst happen. Opened my eyes to the amounts needed to protect me or my partner, and our children.

4) Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?

Yes, sent away for my quote as soon as I'd filled put the questions so I can really start looking into this propwrly, and stop putting it off as usual!

5) What improvements would you like to see in the tool?

More choices to make the end result more comprehensive - any medical issues, partner's income etc.

Whattodowithaminute · 10/10/2016 18:37
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?
    Simple

  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
Easy to use as few clicks to an answer but felt that it mayhem didn't reflect current position very well as no current mortgage but saving for deposit and currently limited income due to low number of working hours as primary childcare provider at present

  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
No protection gap identified helpful to have reassurance of this however possibly skewed due to aforementioned reasons.

  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
    No current provision deemed adequate

  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?
May be useful to have some prompts or alternative scenarios at the end e.g if your income increases by x percent then this should happen.
If you take out a mortgage of x value then this may happen...

SoftBlocks · 10/10/2016 19:14

Very easy to use because there weren't too many questions.

  1. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Yes.

Did you find that you had a protection gap?

Us but I knew I had.

  1. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?

Yes.

  1. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?

Pickofthepops · 10/10/2016 19:32
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? It's okay - quite modern, but for me a bit too 'behind the scenes'
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? Yes apart from one exception. - the section on workplace cover. Working out my husbands as a lump amount was difficult. Not helped by his employers online page being taken down for maintenance. I don't think the Zurich page was at all helpful re. How to enter the amount.
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? Yes but aware of that and still not sure If it is right. We put the death in service benefit as a yearly amount ie %ageof salary. Couldn't find the right info for my own pension in time to qualify for submitting this feedback.
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? In my dreams!
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool? Greater clarity of how to enter the amount.
Whatapavlova · 10/10/2016 19:33
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?

I liked the design. Clear and easy to use. Although I had to put down my child's age as 1, because he is 6 months and it wouldn't accept that as an answer. Drop downs / multiple choice would be even quicker than free text fields.

  1. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?

Yes, in general apart from issue above. It did feel a little simplistic though, if I was buying insurance I would want to go back in more detail to get more information on what cover was needed / how it was calculated. Also when I got to the quotes section, I chose critical illness but then whole life cover - and it told me I couldn't do this combination but I didn't really know what to choose. Some advice / info on this would have been helpful.

  1. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?

Yes, although I think I already knew this! It's a good prompt to take into account all the different things you need cover for, like education.

  1. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?

Not yet, but I am thinking about it.

  1. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?

See above.

irie · 10/10/2016 22:10
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? Very modern clean and simple - I was pleasantly surprised
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? Yes easy to use and understand especially liked the little 'i' symbols which gave more info where needed
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? Yes and yes
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? Not right now as I am applying for a mortgage but it definitely gave food for thought and I would like to investigate further once finances are sorted
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool I liked the tool very much but found after when it said get a quote I felt too much info was required... I'd have preferred to get a rough idea of cost before entering so much more info, to know whether it was in my budget before I spend ages inputting all my details Smile
pillowaddict · 10/10/2016 22:25
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? - easy to use, straightforward and good design
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? - yes, it was simple and straightforward
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? - yes, made me think about the cost of education in particular
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? - has started discussions with dh
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool? - maybe more examples of suggested costs e.g. xx for saving for xx
NornIrishNut · 10/10/2016 22:37
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?

Very easy to use and intuitive.

  1. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?

I had no issues taking myself through the tool, but you do need the information to hand. Something which I didn't think was completely clear.

  1. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?

The tool didn't give me anything I couldn't have worked out myself. The calculation seemed simple.

  1. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?

It has made me put a reminder to check it further.

  1. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?

No improvements, it does what it says on the tin

Miskate · 11/10/2016 09:13
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool? Simple and easy to use with pleasing graphics. Modern.
  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not? Yes, it worked well on both PC and mobile. It was clear how the questions flowed.
  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap? I didn't feel like it was applicable to me as the costs were a bit irrelevant.
  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover? It made me think about the level of cover we currently have.
  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool? Geared towards people who need a range of options for cover. I felt it was scare mongering me into getting higher cover than I can afford which put me off.
user1471438956 · 11/10/2016 15:17
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?

Simple and clear

  1. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?

It was easy to use but did assume the user had knowledge of insurance provision such as pension benefits.

  1. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?

It was helpful but having recently obtained life insurance I realise that the process is often more complicated. The tool is a helpful starter but proper advice should be recommended i.e. If the children are young, is it necessary to factor in University fees now at possibly a significantly greater cost. Life insurance should be reviewed at key life stages.

  1. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?

No

  1. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?

Encouragement to consider insurance needs at different life stages rather than all in one go.

rallytog1 · 11/10/2016 15:19
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?
Simple and straightforward. The reveals worked nicely (eg for children's ages)

  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
Mostly, although some of the questions weren't clear. Eg for income, did you mean just my income or mine plus partner's? And I didn't understand what the pensions savings question was really asking. Could have done with some more pointers to help me work out the info you wanted.

  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
Yes, but I did already know I have a protection gap.

  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
    Not really.

  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?
Make the questions clearer - eg make it clear if you're asking questions about individuals or households, and have further info available to help with gathering the info needed to answer questions. More information buttons would be useful.

r0ck · 11/10/2016 15:42
  1. What do you think of the design of the tool?
It was simple to use and didn't require any explanation. I liked how the 'reveal' worked.

  2. Did you find the tool easy to use and understand? Why/Why not?
It was very easy to understand, the questions were clear and concise.

  3. Did the tool prove helpful to you? Did you find that you had a protection gap?
It made me consider the value of the insurance we have taken out which is always helpful to do as an exercise in itself. According to the tool we have a protection gap however I did not necessarily agree with this assessment as I thought the figure quoted was at the extreme end of what we would require.

  4. Did the tool inspire you to take action to alter your life insurance cover?
    No.

  5. What improvements would you like to see in the tool?
I thought if anything the tool was a bit too simplistic. There are so many variables at play with life/protection insurance that to be adequately covered I would want to do a more in depth assessment. However as a first port of call prior to this, it is a useful tool but not one that I would rely on in its entirety.
